2023 TA2 Rookie of the Year Austin Green: What’s Ahead

Austin Green didn’t have an easy road to winning the 2023 TA2 class Wilwood Rookie of the Year award. The 22-year-old son of 1994 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion David Green had an up-and-down season, with several promising runs cut short when he got caught up in other competitors’ wrecks.

However, the races that went well were impressive, and the young driver earned four podium finishes, five top-five finishes and seven top 10s in his first full-time season in the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli. At Road America, in one of his most remarkable runs, Green started 35th and overcame early damage in his No. 89 3-Dimensional Services Group Chevrolet Camaro to work his way up to fifth by the time the checkered flag waved. Green’s season-best finish of second was achieved twice this season, both in the season opener at Sebring International Raceway and later in the year at Watkins Glen International. The rookie also ended his year strong, scoring a third-place finish at the season finale at Circuit of The Americas.

“It’s been an up and down year for sure,” said Green after being presented with his Rookie of the Year trophy. “We’ve had the good races, the bad races. I just can’t thank everyone at Peterson Racing and 3-Dimensional Services Group and Mr. Peterson enough for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. Without them, none of this is possible. I’m excited for 2024, and hopefully we can continue our success.”

Just recently, Green announced his plans for 2024, which will include partial seasons in both TA2 and the NASCAR Xfinity Series, both of which will be run with his 2023 team, Peterson Racing. The Young Gun shared his excitement on social media:

“Excited to join Peterson Racing and 3Dimensional Services Group for a partial schedule in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, as well as a partial season in Trans Am for 2024! Thankful for everyone that has believed in me. Ready to rip!”

Since the season ended, Green has also won the South Carolina 400 Super Truck feature race at Florence Motor Speedway with support from Peterson Racing.

Green is also participating in the Sebring test, January 22-23 alongside team owner Doug Peterson and Laurant Graziana.

The 2024 TA2 season begins in just over a month at Sebring International Raceway, February 22-25.
