Hamsa, a modern Israeli restaurant offering guests a unique culinary experience, opened its doors in May 2022 under Sof Hospitality. We sought to create a menu of elevated Middle Eastern classics, rich in vegetables, unique spices and one-of-a-kind flavor profiles. Our approach to dining is to encourage gathering around a table with great company. Shared plates are a menu focal point, and guests are encouraged to begin their meal with a variety of salatim followed by small plates.

The name Hamsa translates to “five” in arabic. The Hamsa symbol of a palm shaped amulet is often used in Middle Eastern culture as a sign of protection. Traditionally, it is said to be used as defense from the evil eye. One is to knock on wood and say “Hamsa, Hamsa” to ward off unlucky spirits. The number five is very significant to us as our restaurant’s address is 5555 Morningside Drive and ironically, we opened our doors on May 5th at 5:00 p.m.

Sof Hospitality was founded in 2021 as we began to expand our restaurant umbrella and capitalize on our individual crafts in the industry. Today, Sof is the proud restaurant group of our three Israeli-inspired concepts: our high end butchery and specialty steakhouse.

Doris Metropolitan, our one-of-a-kind bakery with unique offerings only found in Houston, Bādolina Bakery & Cafe, and Hamsa, a modern-Isreali restaurant with an upbeat vibe.

Sof was created by Itai Ben Eli and Itamar Levy out of their desire to share Israeli culture and food with the rest of the world. Sof’s mission is to provide guests with an unparalleled dining experience rooted in unique flavor profiles and techniques from around the world.
