Vanderbilt's Veronica Fraley won the national title in the discus throw Saturday at the 2024 NCAA outdoor track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Fraley's throw of 63.66 meters won her the title by 0.61 meters over Jayden Ulrich of Louisville.

Fraley was named SEC Field Athlete of the Year and won the shot put at the SEC championships. She also was named an All-American in the shot put, in which she placed 16th with a throw of 16.44 meters on Thursday.

She was one of three Commodores athletes at the NCAA championships, and all three earned All-American honors. Lena Gooden placed 16th in the long jump and set the school record in the event, and Sarah Omoregie finished seventh in the shot put.

Fraley is the second NCAA individual champion for Vanderbilt. Ryan Tolbert, who won the 400 meters in 1997, was the first. In 2023, Beatrice Juskeviciute finished second at the NCAA championships in the heptathlon and Brooke Overholt was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles.
