Achieving precise and adjustable control over laser frequency is an essential requirement in numerous applications such as precision spectroscopy, quantum control, and sensing. In many such applications it is desired to stabilize a laser with a variable detuning from an atomic line. In this study, we employ an offset-stabilization scheme by utilizing phase contrast spectroscopy in microfabricated atomic diffractive elements vapor-cells. The spectroscopic response of such a device generates oscillating optical fringes, providing multiple optical frequency stabilization points across a bandwidth of tens of gigahertz, centered around the absorption resonances of Rb. Using this device, we demonstrate laser stabilization at various offset frequencies with instabilities reaching sub-megahertz levels. We further explore the fundamental limitations of our hybrid atomic-photonic device, drawing parallels to birefringent and dichroic spectroscopy apparatuses, which are commonly employed for offset stabilization. Our system showcases a broad offset lock bandwidth, a highly compact footprint, scalability to chip-scale production, and the ability to operate without reliance on magnetic fields. These attributes pave the way for a multitude of applications in quantum technologies.

For the computation, we develop an $O(2)$-equivariant version of the lattice homotopy type, originally introduced by Dai-Sasahira-Stoffregen. This enables us to compute the real Seiberg-Witten Floer homotopy type for a certain class of knots. Additionally, we present some computations of Miyazawa's real framed Seiberg-Witten invariant for 2-knots.

In the realm of machine learning, the KNN classification algorithm is widely recognized for its simplicity and efficiency. However, its sensitivity to the K value poses challenges, especially with small sample sizes or outliers, impacting classification performance. This article introduces a novel KNN-based classifier called LMPHNN (Novel Pseudo Nearest Neighbor Classification Method Using Local Harmonic Mean Distance). LMPHNN leverages harmonic mean distance (HMD) to improve classification performance based on LMPNN rules and HMD. The classifier begins by identifying k nearest neighbors for each class and generates distinct local vectors as prototypes. Pseudo nearest neighbors (PNNs) are then created based on the local mean for each class, determined by comparing the HMD of the sample with the initial k group. Classification is determined by calculating the Euclidean distance between the query sample and PNNs, based on the local mean of these categories. Extensive experiments on various real UCI datasets and combined datasets compare LMPHNN with seven KNN-based classifiers, using precision, recall, accuracy, and F1 as evaluation metrics. LMPHNN achieves an average precision of 97%, surpassing other methods by 14%. The average recall improves by 12%, with an average accuracy enhancement of 5%. Additionally, LMPHNN demonstrates a 13% higher average F1 value compared to other methods. In summary, LMPHNN outperforms other classifiers, showcasing lower sensitivity with small sample sizes.

This work demonstrates that E(3)-equivariant graph neural network interatomic potentials (GNN-IPs) effectively learn non-local electrostatic interactions and charge transfers. Using a toy model with point charges, it is confirmed that GNN-IPs adeptly interpolate and extrapolate electrostatic interactions, independent of geometric coupling. It is also found that the electrostatic energy between an atom pair is distributed among neighboring atoms, rather than localized solely within the two atoms involved. Furthermore, GNN-IPs have proven successful in capturing non-local interactions through charge transfer on density functional theory reference data, as evidenced by comparative analyses of the potential energy surfaces for Au clusters on both MgO and Al-doped MgO substrates.

The proposed measure, L1 centrality, can adequately handle graphs with weights assigned to vertices and edges. The study provides tools for graphical and multiscale analysis based on the L1 centrality. Specifically, the suggested analysis tools include the target plot, L1 centrality-based neighborhood, local L1 centrality, multiscale edge representation, and heterogeneity plot and index. Most importantly, our work is closely associated with the concept of data depth for multivariate data, which allows for a wide range of practical applications of the proposed measure. We have investigated interlayer interactions in the bilayer PtTe$_{2}$ system, which influence the electronic energy bands near the Fermi levels. Our diffusion Monte Carlo (DMC) calculations for the high-symmetry bilayer stackings (AA, AB, AC) manifest distinct interlayer binding characteristics among the stacking modes by revealing significantly different interlayer separations depending on the stackings, which is critical to understanding the interlayer coupling of the twisted bilayers consisting of various local stacking arrangements. Furthermore, a comparison between the interlayer separations obtained from DMC and density functional theory (DFT) shows that meta-GGA-based vdW-DFT results agree with DMC for different layer stackings, including twisted bilayers, but only the ground-state AA stacking matches well with GGA-based DFT predictions. This underscores the importance of accurate exchange-correlation potentials even for capturing the stacking-dependent interlayer binding properties. We further show that the variability in DFT-predicted interlayer separations is responsible for the large discrepancy of band structures in the 21.79$^{\circ}$-twisted bilayer PtTe$_{2}$, affecting its classification as metallic or semiconducting. These results demonstrate the importance of obtaining a correct description of stacking-dependent interlayer coupling in modeling delicate bilayer systems at finite twists.

Fluorescence imaging in thick biological tissues is challenging due to sample-induced aberration and scattering, which leads to severe degradation of image quality and resolution. Fluorescence imaging in reflection geometry further exacerbates this issue since the point spread function is distorted in both excitation and emission pathways. Here, we propose a novel approach termed adaptive optics virtual structured illumination microscopy (AO V-SIM) that enables super-resolution multiphoton imaging through a scattering medium in reflection geometry. Our approach exploits the incoherent reflection matrix obtained using a conventional point-scanning fluorescence microscope with an array detector. We introduce V-SIM super-resolution reconstruction algorithm based on the incoherent reflection matrix. Furthermore, we introduce a software adaptive optics correction algorithm, AO V-SIM, which recovers unattenuated and phase-corrected optical transfer function for both excitation and emission pathways. The effectiveness of our proposed method is experimentally validated through sub-diffraction-limited two-photon fluorescence imaging of various samples in the presence of strong aberration.

The obtained limits are the world's best results. This is the first search for the channels $B^{+, 0} \to (ω, ρ^{+,0}) e^+e^-$ and $B^{+, 0} \to (ω, ρ^{+})μ^+μ^-$.

We prove that the Lipshitz-Ozsváth-Thurston correspondence between extended type D structures of knot complements and $\mathbb{F}[U, V]/(UV)$ knot Floer complexes can be arranged so that $ι_K$-invariant splittings of knot Floer chain complexes correspond to $ι_{S^3 \setminus K}$-invariant splittings of bordered Floer homology of knot complements. For patterns satisfying the satellite extension property, which include cabling patterns, this provides a novel way to compute the involutive knot Floer homology of satellites from that of their companions. As a topological application, we show that our results can be applied to construct infinitely many examples of exotic pairs of contractible 4-manifolds which remain exotic after one stabilization. Along the way, we also establish first order naturality of bordered Floer homology.

By requiring the $e^{+}e^{-}$ invariant mass to be consistent with a $φ(1020)$, $0.98<M(e^{+}e^{-})<1.04$ ~GeV/$c^2$, the decay $D_s^+\toπ^+φ,φ\to e^{+}e^{-}$ is observed with a statistical significance of 7.8$σ$, and evidence for the decay $D_s^+\toρ^+φ,φ\to e^{+}e^{-}$ is found for the first time with a statistical significance of 4.4$σ$. The decay branching fractions are measured to be $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+\toπ^+φ, φ\to e^{+}e^{-} )=(1.17^{+0.23}_{-0.21}\pm0.03)\times 10^{-5}$, and $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+\toρ^+φ, φ\to e^{+}e^{-} )=(2.44^{+0.67}_{-0.62}\pm 0.16)\times 10^{-5}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. No significant signal for the three four-body decays of $D_{s}^{+}\to π^{+}π^{0}e^{+}e^{-},\ D_{s}^{+}\to K^{+}π^{0}e^{+}e^{-}$, and $D_{s}^{+}\to K_{S}^{0}π^{+}e^{+}e^{-}$ is observed. For $D_{s}^{+}\to π^{+}π^{0}e^{+}e^{-}$, the $φ$ mass region is vetoed to minimize the long-distance effects. The 90$\%$ confidence level upper limits set on the branching fractions of these decays are in the range of $(7.0-8.1)\times 10^{-5}$.

We report a measurement of the $e^+e^- \to π^+π^-π^0$ cross section in the energy range from 0.62 to 3.50 GeV using an initial-state radiation technique. We use an $e^+e^-$ data sample corresponding to 191 $\text{fb}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, collected at a center-of-mass energy at or near the $Υ{(4S)}$ resonance with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. Signal yields are extracted by fitting the two-photon mass distribution in $e^+e^- \to π^+π^-π^0γ$ events, which involve a $π^0 \to γγ$ decay and an energetic photon radiated from the initial state. Signal efficiency corrections with an accuracy of 1.6% are obtained from several control data samples. The uncertainty on the cross section at the $ω$ and $φ$ resonances is dominated by the systematic uncertainty of 2.2%. The resulting cross sections in the 0.62-1.80 GeV energy range yield $ a_μ^{3π} = [48.91 \pm 0.23~(\mathrm{stat}) \pm 1.07~(\mathrm{syst})] \times 10^{-10} $ for the leading-order hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment. This result differs by $2.5$ standard deviations from the most precise current determination.

The optical feedback intensity is an important parameter for realizing narrow linewidth lasers in Whispering-gallery-mode resonator (WGMR) self-injection locking technology. We proposed an approach that enhances the intensity of intracavity feedback in crystalline WGMR by using only a single coated auxiliary prism. Compared to the Rayleigh scattering, the feedback intensity of the enhanced scheme increased by more than a hundred times. Furthermore, we demonstrated that, with the enhanced approach, the instantaneous linewidth of the laser was suppressed to 7 Hz level, the locking range was expanded up to 8 GHz, and the relative intensity noise (RIN) was reduced to -152 dBc/Hz@10MHz. The feedback enhanced design is compact, easy-to-operated and can be integrated with the WGMR. It provides a miniaturized solution for controlling optical feedback intensity in WGMR self-injection locking technology.

We introduce HyperCLOVA X, a family of large language models (LLMs) tailored to the Korean language and culture, along with competitive capabilities in English, math, and coding. HyperCLOVA X was trained on a balanced mix of Korean, English, and code data, followed by instruction-tuning with high-quality human-annotated datasets while abiding by strict safety guidelines reflecting our commitment to responsible AI. The model is evaluated across various benchmarks, including comprehensive reasoning, knowledge, commonsense, factuality, coding, math, chatting, instruction-following, and harmlessness, in both Korean and English. HyperCLOVA X exhibits strong reasoning capabilities in Korean backed by a deep understanding of the language and cultural nuances. Further analysis of the inherent bilingual nature and its extension to multilingualism highlights the model's cross-lingual proficiency and strong generalization ability to untargeted languages, including machine translation between several language pairs and cross-lingual inference tasks. We believe that HyperCLOVA X can provide helpful guidance for regions or countries in developing their sovereign LLMs.

Hypergraphs are marked by complex topology, expressing higher-order interactions among multiple nodes with hyperedges, and better capturing the topology is essential for effective representation learning. Recent advances in generative self-supervised learning (SSL) suggest that hypergraph neural networks learned from generative self supervision have the potential to effectively encode the complex hypergraph topology. Designing a generative SSL strategy for hypergraphs, however, is not straightforward. Questions remain with regard to its generative SSL task, connection to downstream tasks, and empirical properties of learned representations. In light of the promises and challenges, we propose a novel generative SSL strategy for hypergraphs. We first formulate a generative SSL task on hypergraphs, hyperedge filling, and highlight its theoretical connection to node classification. Based on the generative SSL task, we propose a hypergraph SSL method, HypeBoy. HypeBoy learns effective general-purpose hypergraph representations, outperforming 16 baseline methods across 11 benchmark datasets.

The Transformer architecture has revolutionized the field of deep learning over the past several years in diverse areas, including natural language processing, code generation, image recognition, time series forecasting, etc. We propose to apply Zamir et al.'s efficient transformer to perform deconvolution and denoising to enhance astronomical images. We conducted experiments using pairs of high-quality images and their degraded versions, and our deep learning model demonstrates exceptional restoration of photometric, structural, and morphological information. When compared with the ground-truth JWST images, the enhanced versions of our HST-quality images reduce the scatter of isophotal photometry, Sersic index, and half-light radius by factors of 4.4, 3.6, and 4.7, respectively, with Pearson correlation coefficients approaching unity. The performance is observed to degrade when input images exhibit correlated noise, point-like sources, and artifacts. We anticipate that this deep learning model will prove valuable for a number of scientific applications, including precision photometry, morphological analysis, and shear calibration.

Using $e^+ e^-$ collision data collected at the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $7.33~{\rm fb}^{-1}$, we determine the absolute branching fractions of fifteen hadronic $D_s^{+}$ decays with a double-tag technique. In particular, we make precise measurements of the branching fractions $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to K^+ K^- π^+)=(5.49 \pm 0.04 \pm 0.07)\%$, $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to K_S^0 K^+)=(1.50 \pm 0.01 \pm 0.01)\%$ and $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to K^+ K^- π^+ π^0)=(5.50 \pm 0.05 \pm 0.11)\%$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. The \emph{CP} asymmetries in these decays are also measured and all are found to be compatible with zero.

With a dominant hadronic contribution from $K_1(1270)$, the branching fractions are measured to be $\mathcal{B}(D^0\rightarrow {K}_1(1270)^-(\to K^0_Sπ^-π^0)e^+ν_e)=(1.69^{+0.53}_{-0.46}\pm0.15)\times10^{-4}$ and $\mathcal{B}(D^+\to \bar{K}_1(1270)^0(\to K^0_Sπ^+π^-)e^+ν_e)=(1.47^{+0.45}_{-0.40}\pm0.20)\times10^{-4}$ with statistical significance of 5.4$σ$ and 5.6$σ$, respectively. When combined with measurements of the $K_1(1270)\to K^+π^-π$ decays, the absolute branching fractions are determined to be $\mathcal{B}(D^0\to K_1(1270)^-e^+ν_e)=(1.05^{+0.33}_{-0.28}\pm0.12\pm0.12)\times10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}(D^+\to \bar{K}_1(1270)^0e^+ν_e)=(1.29^{+0.40}_{-0.35}\pm0.18\pm0.15)\times10^{-3}$. The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, and the third uncertainties originate from the assumed branching fractions of the $K_1(1270)\to Kππ$ decays.

Recently, web platforms have been operating various service domains simultaneously. Targeting a platform that operates multiple service domains, we introduce a new task, Multi-Domain Recommendation to Attract Users (MDRAU), which recommends items from multiple ``unseen'' domains with which each user has not interacted yet, by using knowledge from the user's ``seen'' domains. In this paper, we point out two challenges of MDRAU task. First, there are numerous possible combinations of mappings from seen to unseen domains because users have usually interacted with a different subset of service domains. Second, a user might have different preferences for each of the target unseen domains, which requires that recommendations reflect the user's preferences on domains as well as items. To tackle these challenges, we propose DRIP framework that models users' preferences at two levels (i.e., domain and item) and learns various seen-unseen domain mappings in a unified way with masked domain modeling. Our extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of DRIP in MDRAU task and its ability to capture users' domain-level preferences.

Significant methodological strides have been made toward Chest X-ray (CXR) understanding via modern vision-language models (VLMs), demonstrating impressive Visual Question Answering (VQA) and CXR report generation abilities. However, existing CXR understanding frameworks still possess several procedural caveats. (1) Previous methods solely use CXR reports, which are insufficient for comprehensive Visual Question Answering (VQA), especially when additional health-related data like medication history and prior diagnoses are needed. (2) Previous methods use raw CXR reports, which are often arbitrarily structured. While modern language models can understand various text formats, restructuring reports for clearer, organized anatomy-based information could enhance their usefulness. (3) Current evaluation methods for CXR-VQA primarily emphasize linguistic correctness, lacking the capability to offer nuanced assessments of the generated answers. In this work, to address the aforementioned caveats, we introduce WoLF, a Wide-scope Large Language Model Framework for CXR understanding. To resolve (1), we capture multi-faceted records of patients, which are utilized for accurate diagnoses in real-world clinical scenarios. Specifically, we adopt the Electronic Health Records (EHR) to generate instruction-following data suited for CXR understanding. Regarding (2), we enhance report generation performance by decoupling knowledge in CXR reports based on anatomical structure even within the attention step via masked attention. To address (3), we introduce an AI-evaluation protocol optimized for assessing the capabilities of LLM. Through extensive experimental validations, WoLF demonstrates superior performance over other models on MIMIC-CXR in the AI-evaluation arena about VQA (up to +9.47%p mean score) and by metrics about report generation (+7.3%p BLEU-1).

In cellular networks, it can become necessary for authorities to physically locate user devices for tracking criminals or illegal devices. While cellular operators can provide authorities with cell information the device is camping on, fine-grained localization is still required. Therefore, the authorized agents trace the device by monitoring its uplink signals. However, tracking the uplink signal source without its cooperation is challenging even for operators and authorities. Particularly, three challenges remain for fine-grained localization: i) localization works only if devices generate enough uplink traffic reliably over time, ii) the target device might generate its uplink traffic with significantly low power, and iii) cellular repeater may add too much noise to true uplink signals. While these challenges present practical hurdles for localization, they have been overlooked in prior works.
In this work, we investigate the impact of these real-world challenges on cellular localization and propose an Uncooperative Multiangulation Attack (UMA) that addresses these challenges. UMA can 1) force a target device to transmit traffic continuously, 2) boost the target's signal strength to the maximum, and 3) uniquely distinguish traffic from the target and the repeaters. Notably, the UMA technique works without privilege on cellular operators or user devices, which makes it operate on any LTE network. Our evaluations show that UMA effectively resolves the challenges in real-world environments when devices are not cooperative for localization. Our approach exploits the current cellular design vulnerabilities, which we have responsibly disclosed to GSMA.

Structural and magnetic properties of Mn5(SixGe1-x)3 thin films were investigated. Ferromagnetic Mn5Ge3 and anti-ferromagnetic Mn5Si3 thin films have been synthesized and characterized as these compounds exhibit interesting features for the development of spintronics. Here, Mn5(SixGe1-x)3 thin films were grown on Ge(111) substrates by co-deposition using molecular beam epitaxy. Crystalline thin films can be produced with controlled Si concentrations ranging from 0 to 1. The thin films were relaxed by dislocations at the interface with the substrate. A lattice parameter variation was observed as the Si content increased, which is comparable to previous works done in bulk. Reflection highenergy electron diffraction diagrams and X-ray diffraction profiles showed that lattice parameters a and c are shrinking and that the surface roughness and crystallinity degrade as the Si amount increases. Magnetometric measurements revealed a ferromagnetic behavior for all Si concentrations. The measured average ferromagnetic moment per manganese atom decreased from 2.33 to 0.05 μB/Mn atom. No ferro to anti-ferromagnetic transition was observed contrary to the bulk Mn5(SixGe1-x)3 compound.

This paper presents a time-frequency phase-coded sub-Nyquist sampling orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (PC-SNS-OFDM) radar system to reduce the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) sampling rate without any additional hardware or signal processing. The proposed radar divides the transmitted OFDM signal into multiple sub-bands along the frequency axis and provides orthogonality to these sub-bands by multiplying phase codes in both the time and frequency domains. Although the sampling rate is reduced by the factor of the number of sub-bands, the sub-bands above the sampling rate are folded into the lowest one due to aliasing. In the process of restoring the signals in folded sub-bands to those in full signal bands, the proposed PC-SNS-OFDM radar effectively eliminates symbol-mismatch noise while introducing trade-offs in the range and Doppler ambiguities. The utilization of phase codes in both the frequency and time domains provides flexible control of the range and Doppler ambiguities. It also improves the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of detected targets compared to an earlier sub-Nyquist sampling OFDM radar system. This is validated with simulations and experiments under various sub-Nyquist sampling rates.

We propose Texture Edge detection using Patch consensus (TEP) which is a training-free method to detect the boundary of texture. We propose a new simple way to identify the texture edge location, using the consensus of segmented local patch information. While on the boundary, even using local patch information, the distinction between textures are typically not clear, but using neighbor consensus give a clear idea of the boundary. We utilize local patch, and its response against neighboring regions, to emphasize the similarities and the differences across different textures. The step of segmentation of response further emphasizes the edge location, and the neighborhood voting gives consensus and stabilize the edge detection. We analyze texture as a stationary process to give insight into the patch width parameter verses the quality of edge detection. We derive the necessary condition for textures to be distinguished, and analyze the patch width with respect to the scale of textures. Various experiments are presented to validate the proposed model.

The absolute branching fraction of $D^0\to K^-π^0μ^{+}ν_μ$ is measured for the first time to be $(0.729 \pm 0.014_{\rm stat} \pm 0.011_{\rm syst})\%$. Based on an amplitude analysis, the $S\text{-}{\rm wave}$ contribution is determined to be $(5.76 \pm 0.35_{\rm stat} \pm 0.29_{\rm syst})\%$ of the total decay rate in addition to the dominated $K^{*}(892)^-$ component. The branching fraction of $D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-μ^+ν_μ$ is given to be $(2.062 \pm 0.039_{\rm stat} \pm 0.032_{\rm syst})\%$, which improves the precision of the world average by a factor of 5. Combining with the world average of ${\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-e^+ν_e)$, the ratio of the branching fractions obtained is $\frac{{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-μ^+ν_μ)}{{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-e^+ν_e)} = 0.96\pm0.08$, in agreement with lepton flavor universality. Furthermore, assuming single-pole dominance parameterization, the most precise hadronic form factor ratios for $D^0\to K^{*}(892)^{-} μ^+ν_μ$ are extracted to be $r_{V}=V(0)/A_1(0)=1.37 \pm 0.09_{\rm stat} \pm 0.03_{\rm syst}$ and $r_{2}=A_2(0)/A_1(0)=0.76 \pm 0.06_{\rm stat} \pm 0.02_{\rm syst}$.

Deep learning-based, data-driven models are gaining prevalence in climate research, particularly for global weather prediction. However, training the global weather data at high resolution requires massive computational resources. Therefore, we present a new model named KARINA to overcome the substantial computational demands typical of this field. This model achieves forecasting accuracy comparable to higher-resolution counterparts with significantly less computational resources, requiring only 4 NVIDIA A100 GPUs and less than 12 hours of training. KARINA combines ConvNext, SENet, and Geocyclic Padding to enhance weather forecasting at a 2.5° resolution, which could filter out high-frequency noise. Geocyclic Padding preserves pixels at the lateral boundary of the input image, thereby maintaining atmospheric flow continuity in the spherical Earth. SENet dynamically improves feature response, advancing atmospheric process modeling, particularly in the vertical column process as numerous channels. In this vein, KARINA sets new benchmarks in weather forecasting accuracy, surpassing existing models like the ECMWF S2S reforecasts at a lead time of up to 7 days. Remarkably, KARINA achieved competitive performance even when compared to the recently developed models (Pangu-Weather, GraphCast, ClimaX, and FourCastNet) trained with high-resolution data having 100 times larger pixels. Conclusively, KARINA significantly advances global weather forecasting by efficiently modeling Earth's atmosphere with improved accuracy and resource efficiency.

In the wake of the global spread of monkeypox, accurate disease recognition has become crucial. This study introduces an improved SE-InceptionV3 model, embedding the SENet module and incorporating L2 regularization into the InceptionV3 framework to enhance monkeypox disease detection. Utilizing the Kaggle monkeypox dataset, which includes images of monkeypox and similar skin conditions, our model demonstrates a noteworthy accuracy of 96.71% on the test set, outperforming conventional methods and deep learning models. The SENet modules channel attention mechanism significantly elevates feature representation, while L2 regularization ensures robust generalization. Extensive experiments validate the models superiority in precision, recall, and F1 score, highlighting its effectiveness in differentiating monkeypox lesions in diverse and complex cases. The study not only provides insights into the application of advanced CNN architectures in medical diagnostics but also opens avenues for further research in model optimization and hyperparameter tuning for enhanced disease recognition. https://github.com/jzc777/SE-inceptionV3-L2

Leveraging semantically precise pseudo masks derived from image-level class knowledge for segmentation, namely image-level Weakly Supervised Semantic Segmentation (WSSS), still remains challenging. While Class Activation Maps (CAMs) using CNNs have steadily been contributing to the success of WSSS, the resulting activation maps often narrowly focus on class-specific parts (e.g., only face of human). On the other hand, recent works based on vision transformers (ViT) have shown promising results based on their self-attention mechanism to capture the semantic parts but fail in capturing complete class-specific details (e.g., entire body parts of human but also with a dog nearby). In this work, we propose Complementary Branch (CoBra), a novel dual branch framework consisting of two distinct architectures which provide valuable complementary knowledge of class (from CNN) and semantic (from ViT) to each branch. In particular, we learn Class-Aware Projection (CAP) for the CNN branch and Semantic-Aware Projection (SAP) for the ViT branch to explicitly fuse their complementary knowledge and facilitate a new type of extra patch-level supervision. Our model, through CoBra, fuses CNN and ViT's complementary outputs to create robust pseudo masks that integrate both class and semantic information effectively. Extensive experiments qualitatively and quantitatively investigate how CNN and ViT complement each other on the PASCAL VOC 2012 dataset, showing a state-of-the-art WSSS result. This includes not only the masks generated by our model, but also the segmentation results derived from utilizing these masks as pseudo labels.

Achieving a correlative measurement of both magnetic and atomic structures at the nanoscale is imperative to understand the fundamental magnetism of matters and for fostering the development of new magnetic nanomaterials. Conventional microscopy methods fall short in providing the two information simultaneously. Here, we develop a new approach to simultaneously map the magnetic field and atomic structure at the nanoscale using Lorentz 4-dimensional scanning transmission electron microscopy (Ltz-4D-STEM). This method enables precise measurement of the characteristic atomic and magnetic structures across an extensive field of view, a critical aspect for investigating real-world ferromagnetic materials. It offers a comprehensive visualization and statistical evaluation of the different structural information at a pixel-by-pixel correlation. The new method allows to directly visualize the magnetoelastic coupling and the resulting complex magnetization arrangement as well as the competition between magnetoelastic and magnetostatic energy. This approach opens new avenues for in-depth studying the structure-property correlation of nanoscale magnetic materials.

In this work, we demonstrate the formation and electronic influence of lateral heterointerfaces in FeSn containing Kagome and honeycomb layers. Lateral heterostructures offer spatially resolved property control, enabling the integration of dissimilar materials and promoting phenomena not typically observed in vertical heterostructures. Using the molecular beam epitaxy technique, we achieve a controllable synthesis of lateral heterostructures in the Kagome metal FeSn. With scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy in conjunction with first-principles calculations, we provide a comprehensive understanding of the bonding motif connecting the Fe3Sn-terminated Kagome and Sn2-terminated honeycomb surfaces. More importantly, we reveal a distance-dependent evolution of the electronic states in the vicinity of the heterointerfaces. This evolution is significantly influenced by the orbital character of the flat bands. Our findings suggest an approach to modulate the electronic properties of the Kagome lattice, which should be beneficial for the development of future quantum devices.
