In the string theory, the fundamental blocks of nature are not particles but one-dimensional strings. Therefore, a generalization of this idea is to think of it as a cloud of strings. Rodrigues et al. embedded the black bounces spacetime into the string cloud, which demonstrates that the existence of the string cloud makes the Bardeen black hole singular, while the black bounces spacetime remains regular. On the other hand, the echoes are the correction to the late stage of the quasinormal ringing for a black hole, which is caused by the deviation of the spacetime relative to the initial black hole spacetime geometry in the near-horizon region. In this work, we study the gravitational wave echoes of black bounces spacetime surrounded by a cloud of strings under scalar field and electromagnetic field perturbation to explore the effects caused by a string cloud in the near-horizon region. The ringing of the regular black hole and traversable wormhole with string cloud are presented. Our results demonstrate that the black bounce spacetime with strings cloud is characterized by gravitational wave echoes as it transitions from regular black holes to wormholes, i.e. the echoes signal will facilitate us to distinguish between black holes and the wormholes in black bounces surrounded by the string cloud.

With powerful ability to exploit latent structure of self-representation information, different tensor decompositions have been employed into low rank multi-view clustering (LRMVC) models for achieving significant performance. However, current approaches suffer from a series of problems related to those tensor decomposition, such as the unbalanced matricization scheme, rotation sensitivity, deficient correlations capture and so forth. All these will lead to LRMVC having insufficient access to global information, which is contrary to the target of multi-view clustering. To alleviate these problems, we propose a new tensor decomposition called Tucker-O-Minus Decomposition (TOMD) for multi-view clustering. Specifically, based on the Tucker format, we additionally employ the O-minus structure, which consists of a circle with an efficient bridge linking two weekly correlated factors. In this way, the core tensor in Tucker format is replaced by the O-minus architecture with a more balanced structure, and the enhanced capacity of capturing the global low rank information will be achieved. The proposed TOMD also provides more compact and powerful representation abilities for the self-representation tensor, simultaneously. The alternating direction method of multipliers is used to solve the proposed model TOMD-MVC. Numerical experiments on six benchmark data sets demonstrate the superiority of our proposed method in terms of F-score, precision, recall, normalized mutual information, adjusted rand index, and accuracy.

G-equation is a popular level set model in turbulent combustion, and becomes an advective mean curvature type evolution equation when curvature of a moving flame in a fluid flow is considered: $$ G_t + \left(1-d\, \mathrm{Div}{\frac{DG}{|DG|}}\right)_+|DG|+V(x)\cdot DG=0. $$ Here $d>0$ is the Markstein number and the positive part $()_+$ is imposed to avoid a non-physical negative laminar flame speed. For simplicity of presentation, we focus mainly on the case when $V:\mathbb{R}^2\to \mathbb{R}^2$ is the two dimensional cellular flow with Hamiltonian $H = \sin x_1 \, \sin x_2$ and amplitude $A$. Our main result is that for any unit vector $p\in \mathbb{R}^2$, there exists a positive number $\overline H(p)$ such that if $G(x,0)=p\cdot x$, then $$ \left|G(x,t)-p\cdot x+\overline H(p)t\right|\leq C \quad \text{in $\mathbb{R}^2\times [0,\infty)$} $$ for a constant $C$ depending only on the Markstein number $d$ and the cellular flow amplitude $A$. The number $\overline H(p)$ corresponds to the effective burning velocity in the physics literature. The non-coercivity encountered here is one of the major difficulties for homogenization of the mean curvature-type equations. To overcome it, we introduce a new approach that combines PDE methods with a dynamical analysis of the Kohn-Serfaty deterministic game characterization of the curvature G-equation utilizing the streamline structure of cellular flows. Extension to general two-dimensional incompressible flows is also discussed. In three dimensional incompressible flows, the existence of $\overline H(p)$ might fail when the flow intensity exceeds a bifurcation value even for simple shear flows [32].

Based on the Einstein-Maxwell theory, the Joule-Thomson (J-T) expansion of charged dilatonic black holes (the solutions are neither flat nor AdS) in $(n+1)$-dimensional spacetime is studied herein. To this end, we analyze the effects of the dimension $n$ and dilaton field $α$ on J-T expansion. An explicit expression for the J-T coefficient is derived, and consequently, a negative heat capacity is found to lead to a cooling process. In contrast to its effect on the dimension, the inversion curve decreases with charge $Q$ at low pressures, whereas the opposite effect is observed at high pressures. We can observe that with an increase in the dimension $n$ or parameter $α$, both the pressure cut-off point and the minimum inversion temperature $T_{min}$ change. Moreover, we analyze the ratio $T_{min}/T_{c}$ numerically and discover that the ratio is independent of charge; however, it depends on the dilaton field and dimension: for $n=3$ and $α=0$, the ratio is 1/2. The dilaton field is found to enhance the ratio. In addition, we identify the cooling-heating regions by investigating the inversion and isenthalpic curves, and the behavior of the minimum inversion mass $M_{min}$ indicates that this cooling-heating transition may not occur under certain special conditions.

Within a transport model, we study the neutron-proton differential transverse flow and its excitation function in central $^{132}$Sn + $^{124}$Sn collisions at 270 MeV/nucleon. To more accurately evaluate effects of the high-density behavior of symmetry energy \esym on this observable, we also consider the uncertainties of \esym around the saturation density $ρ_{0}$. It is shown that the neutron-proton differential transverse flow and its excitation function are mainly sensitive to the slope $L$ of \esym at $ρ_{0}$. However, the effects of low-density behavior of \esym on this observable should also be considered. Therefore, it is suggested that measurements of the neutron-proton differential transverse flow and its excitation function may provide useful complements to the constraints on $L$ extracted from the spectral pion ratio in S$π$RIT experiments.

Here, we report on the direct measurement of the LDOS of acoustic systems and derive from which the fractional topological number in an acoustic Su-Schrieffer-Heeger system. The acoustic LDOS is quantified here with a state-of-the-art technique through the measurement of the volume flow rate and the acoustic pressure with a local excitation-probe configuration. Based on this method, we study the acoustic Purcell effect and establish experimentally the important relation between the near-field LDOS and the far-field acoustic emission power. Moreover, we detect the LDOS in the one-dimensional acoustic Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model and observe the fractional topological number of the system. Our work unveils the important role of the LDOS in acoustic phenomena and paves the way toward characterizing and tailoring the LDOS in topological systems.

Mott transition plays a key role in strongly correlated physics but its nature is not yet fully understood. Motivated by recent development of Schwinger boson approach for the Kondo lattice, we propose in this work a novel slave fermion algorithm to study the Mott transition. Upon local approximation, our method yields a phase diagram with a zero-temperature continuous (Mott) metal-insulator transition at finite Coulomb interaction $U$ for the half-filled one-band Hubbard model on a square lattice, and the resistivity exhibits a critical scaling around the quantum Widom line. We argue that the Mott transition may be associated with a dynamic charge Kondo effect of local degenerate doublon and holon states, causing sharp resonances on the doublon/holon and electron spectra. The transition is pushed to $U=0$ once intersite antiferromagnetic correlations are included, in agreement with exact numerical calculations. Our approach captures some essential features of the Mott transition and offers an alternative angle to view this important problem. It can be extended to study other correlated electron models with more complicated local interactions.

Recently, numbers of works shows that the performance of neural machine translation (NMT) can be improved to a certain extent with using visual information. However, most of these conclusions are drawn from the analysis of experimental results based on a limited set of bilingual sentence-image pairs, such as Multi30K. In these kinds of datasets, the content of one bilingual parallel sentence pair must be well represented by a manually annotated image, which is different with the actual translation situation. Some previous works are proposed to addressed the problem by retrieving images from exiting sentence-image pairs with topic model. However, because of the limited collection of sentence-image pairs they used, their image retrieval method is difficult to deal with the out-of-vocabulary words, and can hardly prove that visual information enhance NMT rather than the co-occurrence of images and sentences. In this paper, we propose an open-vocabulary image retrieval methods to collect descriptive images for bilingual parallel corpus using image search engine. Next, we propose text-aware attentive visual encoder to filter incorrectly collected noise images. Experiment results on Multi30K and other two translation datasets show that our proposed method achieves significant improvements over strong baselines.

In this work, we investigate a static and spherically symmetric Bardeen-Kiselev black hole with cosmological constant which is a solution of the Einstein-non-linear Maxwell field equations along with a quintessential field. We compute the quasinormal frequencies for Bardeen-Kiselev black hole(BH) with cosmological constant due to electromagnetic and gravitational perturbations. By varying the BH parameters, we discuss the behaviour of both real and imaginary parts of the BH quasinormal frequencies and compare frequencies with Reissner-Nordström-de Sitter BH surrounded by quintessence (RN-dSQ). Interestingly, it shows that the response of Bardeen-Kiselev BH with cosmological constant and RN-dSQ under electromagnetic perturbations are different when the charge parameter $q$, the state parameter $w$ and the normalization factor $c$ are varied, but for the gravitational perturbations, the response of Bardeen-Kiselev BH with cosmological constant and RN-dSQ are different only when the charge parameter $q$ is varied. Therefore, compared with the gravitational perturbations, the electromagnetic perturbations can be used to understand nonlinear and linear electromagnetic fields in curved spacetime separately. Another interesting observation is that due to the presence of quintessence, the electromagnetic perturbations around the Bardeen-Kiselev BH with cosmological constant damps faster and oscillates slowly, and for the gravitational perturbations, the quasinormal mode decays slowly and oscillates slowly. We also study the reflection and transmission coefficients along with absorption cross section for the Bardeen-Kiselev BH with cosmological constant, it shows that the transmission coefficients will increase due to the presence of quintessence.

Supermassive black holes from the center of galaxy may be immersed in a dark matter halo. This dark matter halo may form a "cusp" structure around the black hole and disappear at a certain distance from the black hole. Based on this interesting physical background, we use the continued fraction method to study gravitational ringring of the Kerr-like black holes immersed in a dark matter halo, i.e., quasinormal modes (QNM) and quasibound states (QBS). We consider these gravitational ringring of black holes both in cold dark matter (CDM) model and scalar field dark matter (SFDM) model at the LSB galaxy, and compare them with Kerr black hole. By testing the states of QNM/QBS frequencies with different parameters $l,m,a$, we confirm the existence of the superradiant instabilities when the black holes both in CDM model and SFDM model. Besides, we also study the impacts of dark matter parameters on the QNM/QBS of black holes at the specific circumstances. In the future, these results may be used for gravitational wave detection of supermassive black holes, and may provide an effective method for detecting the existence of dark matter.

Schwarzschild black holes with quantum corrections are studied under scalar field perturbations and electromagnetic field perturbations to analyze the effect of the correction term on the potential function and quasinormal mode (QNM). In classical general relativity, spacetime is continuous and there is no existence of the so-called minimal length. The introduction of the correction items of the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP), the parameter $β$, can change the singularity structure of the black hole gauge and may lead to discretization in time and space. We apply the sixth-order WKB method to approximate the QNM of Schwarzschild black holes with quantum corrections and perform numerical analysis to derive the results of the method. Also, we find that the effective potential and QNM in scalar fields are larger than those in electromagnetic fields.

Variational auto-encoder (VAE) is an effective neural network architecture to disentangle a speech utterance into speaker identity and linguistic content latent embeddings, then generate an utterance for a target speaker from that of a source speaker. This is possible by concatenating the identity embedding of the target speaker and the content embedding of the source speaker uttering a desired sentence. In this work, we propose to improve VAE models with self-attention and structural regularization (RGSM). Specifically, we found a suitable location of VAE's decoder to add a self-attention layer for incorporating non-local information in generating a converted utterance and hiding the source speaker's identity. We applied relaxed group-wise splitting method (RGSM) to regularize network weights and remarkably enhance generalization performance.
In experiments of zero-shot many-to-many voice conversion task on VCTK data set, with the self-attention layer and relaxed group-wise splitting method, our model achieves a gain of speaker classification accuracy on unseen speakers by 28.3\% while slightly improved conversion voice quality in terms of MOSNet scores. Our encouraging findings point to future research on integrating more variety of attention structures in VAE framework while controlling model size and overfitting for advancing zero-shot many-to-many voice conversions.

Gravitational decoupling can add hair to the black holes by adding extra sources. The quasinormal modes of hairy black hole caused by gravitational decoupling for the massless scalar field, electromagnetic field, and gravitational perturbation are investigated. The equations of effective potential for three perturbations are derived in hairy black hole spacetime. We also study the time evolution corresponding to the three perturbations, and the quasinormal mode frequencies are calculated using the Prony method through the time-domain profiles. By analyzing the influence of the hairs ($α$, $l_0$ and $Q$) for the black holes we studying on quasinormal mode, we find that the hairs $α$ and $l_0$ decrease the oscillation frequency of the gravitational wave signal, and the hair $Q$ increase its oscillation frequency.Furthermore, we have calculated the bounds of greybody factor and high-energy absorption cross section with the Sinc approximation, which reveals that the presence of charges ($α$ and $l_0$) generating primary hair can increase the probability of gravitational radiation arriving spatial infinity, whereas the charge $Q$ from the extra sources does the opposite.

We study the limiting behavior of singular values of a lag-$τ$ sample auto-correlation matrix $\bf{R}_τ^ε$ of error term $ε$ in the high-dimensional factor model. We establish the limiting spectral distribution (LSD) which characterizes the global spectrum of $\bf{R}_τ^ε$, and derive the limit of its largest singular value. All the asymptotic results are derived under the high-dimensional asymptotic regime where the data dimension and sample size go to infinity proportionally. Under mild assumptions, we show that the LSD of $\bf{R}_τ^ε$ is the same as that of the lag-$τ$ sample auto-covariance matrix. Based on this asymptotic equivalence, we additionally show that the largest singular value of $\bf{R}_τ^ε$ converges almost surely to the right end point of the support of its LSD. Our results take the first step to identify the number of factors in factor analysis using lag-$τ$ sample auto-correlation matrices. Our theoretical results are fully supported by numerical experiments as well.

A new approach to seismic interpretation is proposed to leverage visual perception and human visual system modeling. Specifically, a saliency detection algorithm based on a novel attention model is proposed for identifying subsurface structures within seismic data volumes. The algorithm employs 3D-FFT and a multi-dimensional spectral projection, which decomposes local spectra into three distinct components, each depicting variations along different dimensions of the data. Subsequently, a novel directional center-surround attention model is proposed to incorporate directional comparisons around each voxel for saliency detection within each projected dimension. Next, the resulting saliency maps along each dimension are combined adaptively to yield a consolidated saliency map, which highlights various structures characterized by subtle variations and relative motion with respect to their neighboring sections. A priori information about the seismic data can be either embedded into the proposed attention model in the directional comparisons, or incorporated into the algorithm by specifying a template when combining saliency maps adaptively. Experimental results on two real seismic datasets from the North Sea, Netherlands and Great South Basin, New Zealand demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm for detecting salient seismic structures of different natures and appearances in one shot, which differs significantly from traditional seismic interpretation algorithms. The results further demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms comparable state-of-the-art saliency detection algorithms for natural images and videos, which are inadequate for seismic imaging data.

Within a transport model, we study effects of the momentum dependence of nuclear symmetry potential on pion observables in central Sn + Sn collisions at 270 MeV/nucleon. To this end, a quantity $U_{sym}^{\infty}(ρ_{0})$, i.e., the value of nuclear symmetry potential at the saturation density $ρ_{0}$ and infinitely large nucleon momentum, is used to characterise the momentum dependence of nuclear symmetry potential. It is shown that with a certain $L$ (i.e., slope of nuclear symmetry energy at $ρ_{0}$) the characteristic parameter $U_{sym}^{\infty}(ρ_{0})$ of symmetry potential affects significantly the production of $π^{-}$ and $π^{+}$ as well as their pion ratios. Moreover, through comparing the charged pion yields, pion ratios as well the spectral pion ratios of theoretical simulations for the reactions $^{108}$Sn + $^{112}$Sn and $^{132}$Sn + $^{124}$Sn with the corresponding data in S$π$RIT experiments, we find that our results favor a constraint on $U_{sym}^{\infty}(ρ_{0})$, i.e., $-160^{+18}_{-9}$~MeV, and the $L$ is also suggested within a range, i.e., $62.7<L<93.1$~MeV. In addition, it is shown that the pion observable of $^{197}$Au + $^{197}$Au collisions at 400~MeV/nucleon also supports the extracted value for $U_{sym}^{\infty}(ρ_{0})$.

In view of the node importance in weighted networks, weighted expected method (WEM), was proposed in this paper, which take an advantages of uncertain graph algorithm. First, a weight processing method is proposed based on the relationship between the weight of edges and the intensity of contact between nodes, and the calculation method of the contribution of the weight of edges to the node importance is defined, even if there are two converse situations in the reality. Then, because of the use of dynamic programming method, which reduces the complexity of computational time to a linear level, WEM will be more suitable for the calculation in large weighted networks. Owning to its features of calculating, WEM can, to the greatest extent, ensure a precise order of node essential scores for each node. The node connectivity experiment and SIR simulation experiment show that the WEM has higher accuracy and relatively low time complexity.

Due to a large amount of information, it is difficult for users to find what they are interested in among the many choices. In order to improve users' experience, recommendation systems have been widely used in music recommendations, movie recommendations, online shopping, and other scenarios. Recently, Knowledge Graph (KG) has been proven to be an effective tool to improve the performance of recommendation systems. However, a huge challenge in applying knowledge graphs for recommendation is how to use knowledge graphs to obtain better user codes and item codes. In response to this problem, this research proposes a user Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) encoder and item encoder recommendation algorithm based on Knowledge Graph (URIR). This study encodes items by capturing high-level neighbor information to generate items' representation vectors and applies an RNN and items' representation vectors to encode users to generate users' representation vectors, and then perform inner product operation on users' representation vectors and items' representation vectors to get probabilities of users interaction with items. Numerical experiments on three real-world datasets demonstrate that URIR is superior performance to state-of-the-art algorithms in indicators such as AUC, Precision, Recall, and MRR. This implies that URIR can effectively use knowledge graph to obtain better user codes and item codes, thereby obtaining better recommendation results.

Imidazole is a promising anhydrous proton conductor with a high conductivity comparable to that of water at a similar temperature relative to its melting point. Previous theoretical studies of the mechanism of proton transport in imidazole have relied either on empirical models or on ab initio trajectories that have been too short to draw significant conclusions. Here, we present the results of ab initio molecular dynamics simulations of an excess proton in liquid imidazole reaching 1 nanosecond in total simulation time. We find that the proton transport is dominated by structural diffusion, and the diffusion constant of the proton defect is ~8 times higher than the self-diffusion of the imidazole molecules. By using correlation function analysis, we decompose the mechanism for proton transport into a series of first-order processes and show that the proton transport mechanism occurs over three distinct time and length scales. Although the mechanism at intermediate times is dominated by hopping along pseudo one-dimensional chains, at longer times, the overall rate of diffusion is limited by the reformation of these chains, thus providing a more complete picture of the traditional, idealized Grotthuss structural diffusion mechanism.

Federated Learning has shown great potentials for the distributed data utilization and privacy protection. Most existing federated learning approaches focus on the supervised setting, which means all the data stored in each client has labels. However, in real-world applications, the client data are impossible to be fully labeled. Thus, how to exploit the unlabeled data should be a new challenge for federated learning. Although a few studies are attempting to overcome this challenge, they may suffer from information leakage or misleading information usage problems. To tackle these issues, in this paper, we propose a novel federated semi-supervised learning method named FedTriNet, which consists of two learning phases. In the first phase, we pre-train FedTriNet using labeled data with FedAvg. In the second phase, we aim to make most of the unlabeled data to help model learning. In particular, we propose to use three networks and a dynamic quality control mechanism to generate high-quality pseudo labels for unlabeled data, which are added to the training set. Finally, FedTriNet uses the new training set to retrain the model. Experimental results on three publicly available datasets show that the proposed FedTriNet outperforms state-of-the-art baselines under both IID and Non-IID settings.

Federated Semi-Supervised Learning (FedSSL) has gained rising attention from both academic and industrial researchers, due to its unique characteristics of co-training machine learning models with isolated yet unlabeled data. Most existing FedSSL methods focus on the classical scenario, i.e, the labeled and unlabeled data are stored at the client side. However, in real world applications, client users may not provide labels without any incentive. Thus, the scenario of labels at the server side is more practical. Since unlabeled data and labeled data are decoupled, most existing FedSSL approaches may fail to deal with such a scenario. To overcome this problem, in this paper, we propose FedCon, which introduces a new learning paradigm, i.e., contractive learning, to FedSSL. Experimental results on three datasets show that FedCon achieves the best performance with the contractive framework compared with state-of-the-art baselines under both IID and Non-IID settings. Besides, ablation studies demonstrate the characteristics of the proposed FedCon framework.

Gravitational wave echoes can be used as a significant observable to understand the properties of black holes horizon. In addition, echoes would also closely relate to the unique properties of compact objects. In this work we study the evolution of electromagnetic field and scalar field under the background of novel black-bounce spacetimes. Our results show an obvious echoes signal that can characterize the properties of novel black-bounce spacetimes, and a detailed analysis about the characteristics of the echoes signal is given. By studying the quasinormal ringdown of the three states of novel black-bounce spacetimes, including black holes in $0<a<2 M$, the one-way wormhole in $a=2M$ and the traversable wormhole in $a>2 M$, we find that the echoes signal only appears when $a>2M$ in this spacetime, but when the parameter $a$ increases to a threshold, the echoes signal will be transformed into a quasinormal ringdown of the two-way traversable wormhole.

Solar energy is a clean and renewable energy. Photovoltaic (PV) power is an important way to utilize solar energy. Accurate PV power forecast is crucial to the large-scale application of PV power and the stability of electricity grid. This paper proposes a novel method for short-term photovoltaic power forecast using deep convolutional long short-term memory (ConvLSTM) network and kernel density estimation (KDE). In the proposed method, ConvLSTM is used to forecast the future photovoltaic power and KDE is used for estimating the joint probabilistic density function and giving the probabilistic confidence interval. Experiments in an actual photovoltaic power station verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. Comparison experiments with convolutional neural network (CNN) and long short-term memory network (LSTM)shows that ConvLSTM can combine the advantages of both CNN and LSTM and significantly outperform CNN and LSTM in terms of forecast accuracy. Through further comparison with other five conventional methods including multilayer perceptron (MLP), support vector regression (SVR), extreme learning machine (ELM), classification and regression tree (CART) and gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT), ConvLSTM can significantly improve the forecast accuracy by more than 20% for most of the five methods and the superiorities of ConvLSTM are further verified.

HD 163296 is a Herbig Ae star that underwent a dramatic $\sim$0.8 magnitude drop in brightness in the V photometric band in 2001 and a brightening in the near-IR in 2002. Because the star possesses Herbig-Haro objects travelling in outflowing bipolar jets, it was suggested that the drop in brightness was due to a clump of dust entrained in a disk wind, blocking the line-on-sight toward the star. In order to quantify this hypothesis, we investigated the brightness drop at visible wavelengths and the brightening at near-IR wavelengths of HD 163296 using the Monte Carlo Radiative Transfer Code, HOCHUNK3D. We created three models to understand the events. Model 1 describes the quiescent state of the system. Model 2 describes the change in structure that led to the drop in brightness in 2001. Model 3 describes the structure needed to produce the observed 2002 brightening of the near-IR wavelengths. Models 2 and 3 utilize a combination of a disk wind and central bipolar flow. By introducing a filled bipolar cavity in Models 2 and 3, we were able to successfully simulate a jet-like structure for the star with a disk wind and created the drop and subsequent increase in brightness of the system. On the other hand, when the bipolar cavity is not filled, Model 1 replicates the quiescent state of the system.

Video super-resolution has recently become one of the most important mobile-related problems due to the rise of video communication and streaming services. While many solutions have been proposed for this task, the majority of them are too computationally expensive to run on portable devices with limited hardware resources. To address this problem, we introduce the first Mobile AI challenge, where the target is to develop an end-to-end deep learning-based video super-resolution solutions that can achieve a real-time performance on mobile GPUs. The participants were provided with the REDS dataset and trained their models to do an efficient 4X video upscaling. The runtime of all models was evaluated on the OPPO Find X2 smartphone with the Snapdragon 865 SoC capable of accelerating floating-point networks on its Adreno GPU. The proposed solutions are fully compatible with any mobile GPU and can upscale videos to HD resolution at up to 80 FPS while demonstrating high fidelity results. Within an isospin- and momentum-dependent transport model, we investigate the necessity of selfconsistent calculations for the electromagnetic field in probing the nuclear symmetry energy using pion observables in heavy-ion collisions at intermediate energies. To this end, we perform the $^{96}$Ru + $^{96}$Ru collisions at 400 MeV/nucleon with two calculations scenarios for the electromagnetic field including the selfconsistent calculation and the most used Liénard-Wiechert formula, while the latter is a simplified one of the complete Liénard-Wiechert formula by neglecting the radiation field for practical calculations in heavy-ion collisions at intermediate and/or relativistic energies. As a comparison, we also consider the static Coulomb field formula for calculations of the electromagnetic field in heavy-ion collisions. It is shown that the most used simplified Liénard-Wiechert formula is not enough for the electromagnetic field calculation because the absent radiation field in this formula also affects significantly the charged pions as well as their $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio. Moreover, we also examine effects of the electromagnetic field in these scenarios on the double $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio of two isobar reaction systems of $^{96}$Ru + $^{96}$Ru and $^{96}$Zr + $^{96}$Zr at 400 MeV/nucleon. It is shown that the double $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio of two reactions tends to be less affected by the electromagnetic field calculation scenario and thus can still be an effective probe of the nuclear symmetry energy in heavy-ion collisions. Therefore, according to these findings, it is suggested that the selfconsistent calculation for the electromagnetic field should be carefully taken into account when using the pion observables to probe the nuclear symmetry energy in heavy-ion collisions.

Recently, we obtained the simple metrics of a spherically symmetric black hole in a dark matter halo, and extended to the case of rotation. As the characteristic sound of black holes, quasinormal modes (QNMs) are one of the important means to understand black holes currently. Based on these two metrics of a spherically symmetric black hole, we study the QNMs of cold dark matter (CDM) and scalar field dark matter (SFDM) models using the methods of the material field perturbations and the gravitational perturbation, and make comparisons with the Schwarzschild black hole. Our results show that black hole QNMs of CDM and SFDM in a dark matter halo are different from the Schwarzschild black hole, unlike a Schwarzschild black hole with a prominent power-law tail. The different kinds models of dark matter can be distinguished by their QNMs. The time of QNMs ringing and frequencies increase with increasing parameter $l$. The overall QNMs of CDM are stronger than that of SFDM in the same condition, which is easier to be detected. In addition, QNMs frequencies using the sixth-order WKB method and the Prony method are in good agreement.

The Back-n neutron beam is very intense, at approximately 2*10^7 n/cm^2/s at 55 m from the target, and has a nominal proton beam with a power of 100 kW in the CSNS-I phase and a kinetic energy of 1.6 GeV and a thick tungsten target in multiple slices with modest moderation from the cooling water through the slices. In addition, the excellent energy spectrum spanning from 0.5 eV to 200 MeV, and a good time resolution related to the time-of-flight measurements make it a typical white neutron source for nuclear data measurements; its overall performance is among that of the best white neutron sources in the world. Equipped with advanced spectrometers, detectors, and application utilities, the Back-n facility can serve wide applications, with a focus on neutron-induced cross-section measurements. The eigenfunctions and energy eigenvalues of such a Dirac oscillator are derived by using the Nikifornov-Uvarov method. We indicate that implementing the scenario gives the relativistic modified exact analytical solutions. In this way, we can see that the degeneracy of the relevant relativistic energy eigenvalues is broken by depending on the Coulomb strength parameter under the influence of the curvature effect and the Aharonov-Casher effect.

While numerous training methods have been proposed, existing studies for full quantization of DNNs are mostly empirical. From a theoretical point of view, we study practical techniques for overcoming the combinatorial nature of network quantization. Specifically, we investigate a simple yet powerful projected gradient-like algorithm for quantizing two-linear-layer networks, which proceeds by repeatedly moving one step at float weights in the negation of a heuristic \emph{fake} gradient of the loss function (so-called coarse gradient) evaluated at quantized weights. For the first time, we prove that under mild conditions, the sequence of quantized weights recurrently visits the global optimum of the discrete minimization problem for training fully quantized network. We also show numerical evidence of the recurrence phenomenon of weight evolution in training quantized deep networks.

Federated learning (FL) has emerged as an effective technique to co-training machine learning models without actually sharing data and leaking privacy. However, most existing FL methods focus on the supervised setting and ignore the utilization of unlabeled data. Although there are a few existing studies trying to incorporate unlabeled data into FL, they all fail to maintain performance guarantees or generalization ability in various real-world settings. In this paper, we focus on designing a general framework FedSiam to tackle different scenarios of federated semi-supervised learning, including four settings in the labels-at-client scenario and two setting in the labels-at-server scenario. FedSiam is built upon a siamese network into FL with a momentum update to handle the non-IID challenges introduced by unlabeled data. We further propose a new metric to measure the divergence of local model layers within the siamese network. Based on the divergence, FedSiam can automatically select layer-level parameters to be uploaded to the server in an adaptive manner. Experimental results on three datasets under two scenarios with different data distribution settings demonstrate that the proposed FedSiam framework outperforms state-of-the-art baselines.

Quantized or low-bit neural networks are attractive due to their inference efficiency. However, training deep neural networks with quantized activations involves minimizing a discontinuous and piecewise constant loss function. Such a loss function has zero gradients almost everywhere (a.e.), which makes the conventional gradient-based algorithms inapplicable. To this end, we study a novel class of \emph{biased} first-order oracle, termed coarse gradient, for overcoming the vanished gradient issue. A coarse gradient is generated by replacing the a.e. zero derivatives of quantized (i.e., stair-case) ReLU activation composited in the chain rule with some heuristic proxy derivative called straight-through estimator (STE). Although having been widely used in training quantized networks empirically, fundamental questions like when and why the ad-hoc STE trick works, still lacks theoretical understanding. In this paper, we propose a class of STEs with certain monotonicity, and consider their applications to the training of a two-linear-layer network with quantized activation functions for non-linear multi-category classification. We establish performance guarantees for the proposed STEs by showing that the corresponding coarse gradient methods converge to the global minimum, which leads to a perfect classification. Lastly, we present experimental results on synthetic data as well as MNIST dataset to verify our theoretical findings and demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed STEs.

Such cases have posted a great challenge to the control society in both theoretical foundation and solution methodologies for many years. With the help of the progressive hedging algorithm proposed by Rockafellar and Wets in 1991, we develop a novel scenario-decomposition solution framework for stochastic control problems which could be nonseparable and/or non-monotonic, thus extending the reach of stochastic optimal control. We discuss then some of its promising applications, including online quadratic programming problems and dynamic portfolio selection problems with smoothing properties.

Using a more reasonable separate density-dependent scenario instead of the total density-dependent scenario for in-medium $nn$, $pp$ and $np$ interactions, we examine effects of differences of in-medium nucleon-nucleon interactions in two density-dependent scenarios on isospin-sensitive observables in central $^{197}$Au+$^{197}$Au collisions at 400 MeV/nucleon. Moreover, to more physically detect the differences between the nucleon-nucleon interactions in two density-dependent scenarios, we also map the nucleon-nucleon interaction in the separate density-dependent scenario into that in the total density-dependent scenario through fitting the identical constraints for symmetric nuclear matter as well as the identical slope parameter of nuclear symmetry energy at the saturation density. It is shown that two density-dependent scenarios also lead to essentially different symmetry potentials especially at high densities although they can lead to the identical equation of state for the symmetry nuclear matter as well as the identical symmetry energy for the isospin asymmetric nuclear matter. Consequently, these isospin-sensitive observables are also appreciably affected by the different density-dependent scenarios of in-medium nucleon-nucleon interactions. Therefore, according to these findings, it is suggested that effects of the separate density-dependent scenario of in-medium nucleon-nucleon interactions should be taken into account when probing the high-density symmetry energy using these isospin-sensitive observables in heavy-ion collisions.

Hyperspectral image (HSI) has some advantages over natural image for various applications due to the extra spectral information. During the acquisition, it is often contaminated by severe noises including Gaussian noise, impulse noise, deadlines, and stripes. The image quality degeneration would badly effect some applications. In this paper, we present a HSI restoration method named smooth and robust low rank tensor recovery. Specifically, we propose a structural tensor decomposition in accordance with the linear spectral mixture model of HSI. It decomposes a tensor into sums of outer matrix vector products, where the vectors are orthogonal due to the independence of endmember spectrums. Based on it, the global low rank tensor structure can be well exposited for HSI denoising. In addition, the 3D anisotropic total variation is used for spatial spectral piecewise smoothness of HSI. Meanwhile, the sparse noise including impulse noise, deadlines and stripes, is detected by the l1 norm regularization. The Frobenius norm is used for the heavy Gaussian noise in some real world scenarios. The alternating direction method of multipliers is adopted to solve the proposed optimization model, which simultaneously exploits the global low rank property and the spatial spectral smoothness of the HSI. Numerical experiments on both simulated and real data illustrate the superiority of the proposed method in comparison with the existing ones.

Low rank tensor ring model is powerful for image completion which recovers missing entries in data acquisition and transformation. The recently proposed tensor ring (TR) based completion algorithms generally solve the low rank optimization problem by alternating least squares method with predefined ranks, which may easily lead to overfitting when the unknown ranks are set too large and only a few measurements are available. In this paper, we present a Bayesian low rank tensor ring model for image completion by automatically learning the low rank structure of data. A multiplicative interaction model is developed for the low-rank tensor ring decomposition, where core factors are enforced to be sparse by assuming their entries obey Student-T distribution. Compared with most of the existing methods, the proposed one is free of parameter-tuning, and the TR ranks can be obtained by Bayesian inference. Numerical Experiments, including synthetic data, color images with different sizes and YaleFace dataset B with respect to one pose, show that the proposed approach outperforms state-of-the-art ones, especially in terms of recovery accuracy.

Random ordinary differential equations (RODEs), i.e. ODEs with random parameters, are often used to model complex dynamics. Most existing methods to identify unknown governing RODEs from observed data often rely on strong prior knowledge. Extracting the governing equations from data with less prior knowledge remains a great challenge. In this paper, we propose a deep neural network, called RODE-Net, to tackle such challenge by fitting a symbolic expression of the differential equation and the distribution of parameters simultaneously. To train the RODE-Net, we first estimate the parameters of the unknown RODE using the symbolic networks \cite{long2019pde} by solving a set of deterministic inverse problems based on the measured data, and use a generative adversarial network (GAN) to estimate the true distribution of the RODE's parameters. Then, we use the trained GAN as a regularization to further improve the estimation of the ODE's parameters. The two steps are operated alternatively. Numerical results show that the proposed RODE-Net can well estimate the distribution of model parameters using simulated data and can make reliable predictions. It is worth noting that, GAN serves as a data driven regularization in RODE-Net and is more effective than the $\ell_1$ based regularization that is often used in system identifications.

Tensor completion can estimate missing values of a high-order data from its partially observed entries. Recent works show that low rank tensor ring approximation is one of the most powerful tools to solve tensor completion problem. However, existing algorithms need predefined tensor ring rank which may be hard to determine in practice. To address the issue, we propose a hierarchical tensor ring decomposition for more compact representation. We use the standard tensor ring to decompose a tensor into several 3-order sub-tensors in the first layer, and each sub-tensor is further factorized by tensor singular value decomposition (t-SVD) in the second layer. In the low rank tensor completion based on the proposed decomposition, the zero elements in the 3-order core tensor are pruned in the second layer, which helps to automatically determinate the tensor ring rank. To further enhance the recovery performance, we use total variation to exploit the locally piece-wise smoothness data structure. The alternating direction method of multiplier can divide the optimization model into several subproblems, and each one can be solved efficiently. Numerical experiments on color images and hyperspectral images demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms state-of-the-arts ones in terms of recovery accuracy.

Tactile sensing or fabric hand plays a critical role in an individual's decision to buy a certain fabric from the range of available fabrics for a desired application. Therefore, textile and clothing manufacturers have long been in search of an objective method for assessing fabric hand, which can then be used to engineer fabrics with a desired hand. Recognizing textures and materials in real-world images has played an important role in object recognition and scene understanding. In this paper, we explore how to computationally characterize apparent or latent properties (e.g., surface smoothness) of materials, i.e., computational material surface characterization, which moves a step further beyond material recognition. We formulate the problem as a very fine-grained texture classification problem, and study how deep learning-based texture representation techniques can help tackle the task. We introduce a new, large-scale challenging microscopic material surface dataset (CoMMonS), geared towards an automated fabric quality assessment mechanism in an intelligent manufacturing system. We then conduct a comprehensive evaluation of state-of-the-art deep learning-based methods for texture classification using CoMMonS. Additionally, we propose a multi-level texture encoding and representation network (MuLTER), which simultaneously leverages low- and high-level features to maintain both texture details and spatial information in the texture representation. Our results show that, in comparison with the state-of-the-art deep texture descriptors, MuLTER yields higher accuracy not only on our CoMMonS dataset for material characterization, but also on established datasets such as MINC-2500 and GTOS-mobile for material recognition.

In this paper, we study the dynamics of gradient descent in learning neural networks for classification problems. Unlike in existing works, we consider the linearly non-separable case where the training data of different classes lie in orthogonal subspaces. We show that when the network has sufficient (but not exceedingly large) number of neurons, (1) the corresponding minimization problem has a desirable landscape where all critical points are global minima with perfect classification; (2) gradient descent is guaranteed to converge to the global minima. Moreover, we discovered a geometric condition on the network weights so that when it is satisfied, the weight evolution transitions from a slow phase of weight direction spreading to a fast phase of weight convergence. The geometric condition says that the convex hull of the weights projected on the unit sphere contains the origin.

This paper strives to learn fine-grained fashion similarity. In this similarity paradigm, one should pay more attention to the similarity in terms of a specific design/attribute among fashion items, which has potential values in many fashion related applications such as fashion copyright protection. To this end, we propose an Attribute-Specific Embedding Network (ASEN) to jointly learn multiple attribute-specific embeddings in an end-to-end manner, thus measure the fine-grained similarity in the corresponding space. With two attention modules, i.e., Attribute-aware Spatial Attention and Attribute-aware Channel Attention, ASEN is able to locate the related regions and capture the essential patterns under the guidance of the specified attribute, thus make the learned attribute-specific embeddings better reflect the fine-grained similarity. Extensive experiments on four fashion-related datasets show the effectiveness of ASEN for fine-grained fashion similarity learning and its potential for fashion reranking.
