We show that the interplay between spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and the paramagnetic response of itinerant electrons in proximitized superconductor/paramagnet systems gives rise to the inverse spin galvanic effect, i.e. generation of magnetic moment under the influence of the charge current. Depending on the sign of the SOC constant and the system temperature, the corresponding contribution to the magnetic response of the superconductor can be either diamagnetic or paramagnetic. We discuss the relevance between the discovered phenomena and the recent experiments on Pt/Nb heterostructures as well as the puzzling sign change of the magnetic response observed in clean Ag coated Nb cylinders.

A novel movable Vlasov launcher for superconducting high charge state Electron Cyclotron Resonance (ECR) ion source has been devised that can affect the microwave power effectiveness by a factor of about 4 in terms of highly charged ion beam production. This approach based on a dedicated microwave launching system instead of the traditional coupling scheme has led to new insight on microwave-plasma interaction. With this new understanding, the world record highly charged xenon ion beam currents have been enhanced by up to a factor of 2, which could directly and significantly enhance the performance of heavy ion accelerators and provide many new research opportunities in nuclear physics, atomic physics and other disciplines.

In this work we suggest a phenomenological theory of photogalvanic phenomena in superconducting materials and structures revealing the diode effect. Starting from a generalized London model including the quadratic nonlinearity in the relation between the supercurrent and superfluid velocity we show that the electromagnetic wave incident on the superconductor can generate a nontrivial superconducting phase difference between the ends of the sample. Being enclosed in a superconducting loop such phase battery should generate a dc supercurrent circulating in the loop. Increasing the electromagnetic wave intensity one can provoke the switching between the loop states with different vorticities.

We propose a new technique to generate reasonable systems of partial differential equations (PDE) that could be potential candidates for depicting models in natural sciences related to quasi-linear equations. Such systems appear within typical constructions of the Homological Algebra as complexes of differential operators describing compatibility conditions for overdetermined systems of PDE's. The related models can be both steady and evolutionary. Additional assumptions on the ellipticity of the differential complex provide a wide class of elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic operators that could be generated in this way. In particular, it appears that an essentially large amount of equations related to the modern Mathematical Physics is generated by the de Rham complex of differentials on the exterior differential forms. These includes the elliptic Laplace and Lamé type operators; the parabolic heat transfer equation; the Euler type and Navier-Stokes type equations in Hydrodynamics; the hyperbolic wave equation and the Maxwell equations in Electrodynamics; the Klein-Gordon equation in Relativistic Quantum Mechanics; and so on. Our model generation method covers a broad class of generating systems, especially in higher spatial dimensions, due to different basic algebraic structures at play.

The ac Hall effect and photon drag are shown to originate from the second-order nonlinear response of superconducting carriers caused by the suppression of their concentration due to the combined influence of the electron - hole asymmetry and charge imbalance generated by the incident electromagnetic wave. We study the distinctive features of the phase pumping effect in Josephson transport through a three-layered ferromagnet F$_1$/F/F$_2$ with non-coplanar magnetization. Using Gor'kov and Bogoliubov-de Gennes formalisms we go beyond the quasiclassical approximation and analyze the dependence of the spontaneous Josephson phase $ψ$ on the exchange field $h$ in the F layer and details of magnetization profile. The pumping of the Josephson phase can be generated by the mutual rotation of magnetizations in F$_1$ and F$_2$ layers resulting in the nontrivial phase gain at the rotation period (Berry phase). The increase in $h$ is shown to cause changes in the topology of the phase evolution: the gain of the Josephson phase at the pumping period switches from $0$ to $2π$. We study the scenario of these switchings originating from the interplay between several competing local minima of the free energy of the junction versus the superconducting phase difference. Our analysis provides the basis for the search of experimental setup realizing the phase pumping phenomenon.

In the Na$_2$KSb/Cs$_3$Sb photocathode, spin-dependent photoemission properties were established through detection of high degree of photoluminescence polarization and high polarization of the photoemitted electrons. It was found that the multi-alkali photocathode can provide electron beams with emittance very close to the limits imposed by the electron thermal energy. The vacuum tablet-type sources of spin-polarized electrons have been proposed for accelerators, that can exclude the construction of the photocathode growth chambers for photoinjectors.

The effect reveals itself for the in-plane orientation of the magnetic moments both for ferromagnetic and anti-ferromagnetic ordering of the moments in the F layers. In the finite size samples the magnetic field decays from the sample surface towards the bulk of the structure, and the decay length strongly depends on the relative orientation of the sample surface, the layers planes and magnetic moments in the F layers. The obtained results provide additional insights into experimental data on the neutron scattering in Nb/Gd superlattices.

We show that Josephson $ψ$ junctions with the half-metallic (HM) weak link coupled to the superconducting (S) electrodes through the ferromagnetic (F) layers host collective excitations of magnetic moment and the Josephson phase. This results in the shift of the ferromagnetic resonance frequency, anomalies in the current-voltage characteristics and the appearance of additional magnetic anisotropy in the F layers. In contrast to the previously studied S/F/S junctions, the coupling between magnetic and plasma modes emerges even in the long-wavelength limit. Such coupling is shown to enable the controllable magnetization reversal in the F layer governed by the d.c. current pulse which provides the effective mechanism for magnetic moment manipulation in the devices of superconducting spintronics.

We show that a ferromagnetic (F) slab with the in-plane magnetization sandwiched between two superconducting (S) films experiences strong demagnetization effect due to the Meissner screening of the stray magnetic field by the superconductors. In the extreme case the transition of the S films from normal to the superconducting state can switch the demagnetization factor from 0 to 1 which is in a sharp contrast with the S/F bilayers where such transition affects the magnetic field inside the F film only slightly. The giant demagnetization effect is shown to be qualitatively robust against the decreasing of the superconducting film thickness and may provide a hint towards the explanation of the anomalously large ferromagnetic resonance frequency shift recently observed for the S/F/S structures [I. The Cooper pairs in superconducting condensates are shown to acquire a temperature-dependent dc magnetic moment under the effect of the circularly polarized electromagnetic radiation. The mechanisms of this inverse Faraday effect are investigated within the simplest version of the phenomenological dynamic theory for superfluids, namely, the time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau (GL) model. The light-induced magnetic moment is shown to be strongly affected by the nondissipative oscillatory contribution to the superconducting order parameter dynamics which appears due to the nonzero imaginary part of the GL relaxation time. The relevance of the latter quantity to the Hall effect in superconducting state allows to establish the connection between the direct and inverse Faraday phenomena.

The accent is made on changes in the magnetic field at the magnetic trap center, the minimum-B value. It is calculated that the optimal normalized value of the field is ~0.8, close to the experimental observations. The reasons for existence of the optimum are discussed. It is observed that the electron energies are increasing with the increased minimum-B values due to enhanced confinement of the energetic electrons in the plasma. Bumps in energy spectra of the radially lost electrons are observed and explained to be due to nonadiabatic losses of electrons.

Analysis of the intriguing physical properties of the dodecaborides, $R$B$_{12}$, requires accurate data on their crystal structure. We show that a simple cubic model fits well with the atomic positions in the unit cell but cannot explain the observed anisotropy in the physical properties. The cooperative Jahn-Teller (JT) effect slightly violates the ideal metric of the cubic lattice and the symmetry of the electron density distribution in the lattice interstices. Theoretical models of the JT distortions of the boron framework are presented. Their correspondence to the electron-density distribution on the maps of Fourier syntheses obtained using x-ray data and explaining the previously observed anisotropy of conductive properties is demonstrated. The effect of boron isotope composition on the character of the lattice distortions is shown. We also discuss the application of the Einstein model for cations and the Debye model for the boron atoms to describe the dynamics of the crystal lattice.

Experimentally measured extracted ion currents are accurately reproduced with the model. Parameters of the injection of metal vapors into the source are optimized. It is found that the axial injection of the highly directional fluxes allows increasing the extracted ion currents of the highly charged calcium ions by factor of 1.5. The reason for the gain in the currents is formation of internal barrier for the ions inside the plasma, which increase the ion extraction and production efficiency. Benefits of injecting the singly-charged calcium ions instead of atoms are discussed.

Three-dimensional numerical model is developed and applied for studies of physical processes in Electron Cyclotron Resonance Ion Source. The model includes separate modules that simulate the electron and ion dynamics in the source plasma in an iterative way. The electron heating by microwaves is simulated by using results of modelling the microwave propagation in the plasma by the COMSOL Multiphysics software. Extracted ion currents and other parameters of the source are obtained for different gas flows into the source. It is observed that the currents are strongly influenced by ion transport in transversal direction induced by the plasma potential gradients. Impact of some special techniques on the source performance is investigated. Magnetic field scaling is shown to reduce the ion losses during their movement toward the extraction aperture, as well as use of the aluminum chamber walls and mixing of the working gas with helium.

When the electronic pressure in the skin-layer is anisotropic, pressure gradient appears to be non-potential force effectively producing low-frequency magnetic field. In typical experiments with femtosecond laser pumping generated internal magnetic field can rich magnitude up to ~1 Tesla in non-damaging interaction regime. Further progress in the development of ECR ion sources (ECRIS) requires deeper understanding of the underlying physics. One of the topics that remains obscure, though being crucial for the performance of the ECRIS, is the electron energy distribution (EED). A well-developed technique of measuring the EED of electrons escaping axially from the magnetically confined plasma of an ECRIS was used for the study of EED in unstable mode of plasma confinement, i.e. in the presence of kinetic instabilities. The experimental data were recorded for pulsed and CW discharges with a room-temperature 14 GHz ECRIS at the JYFL accelerator laboratory. The measurements were focused on observing differences between the EED escaping from a stable and unstable plasmas. It was found that nonlinear phenomena alter the EED noticeably. The electron losses are enhanced in both unstable regime and with two-frequency heating suppressing the instabilities. It has been shown earlier that two-frequency heating boosts the ECRIS performance presumably owing to the suppression of instabilities. We report the observed changes in EED introduced by the secondary frequency in different regimes, including an off-resonance condition where the secondary frequency is lower than the minimum frequency satisfying the resonance condition for cold electrons at the magnetic field minimum. Finally, we suggest an experimental method of qualitative evaluation of the energy distribution of electrons confined in the magnetic trap using a method of measuring energy distribution of lost electrons during the plasma decay in pulsed operation of the ion source.

The measurement of the axially lost electron energy distribution escaping from a minimum-B electron cyclotron resonance ion source in the range of 4-800 keV is reported. The experiments have revealed the existence of a hump at 150-300 keV energy, containing up to 15% of the lost electrons and carrying up to 30% of the measured energy losses. The mean energy of the hump is independent of the microwave power, frequency and neutral gas pressure but increases with the magnetic field strength, most importantly with the value of the minimum-B field. Experiments in pulsed operation mode have indicated the presence of the hump only when microwave power is applied, confirming that the origin of the hump is rf-induced momentum space diffusion. Possible mechanism of the hump formation is considered basing on the quasi-linear model of plasma-wave interaction.

Solutions of separately operating electron and ion modules of NAM-ECRIS are matched in iterative way such as to obtain the spatial distributions of the plasma density and of the plasma potential. Results reveal the complicated profiles with the maximized plasma density close to the ECR surface and on the source axis. The ion-trapping potential dips are calculated to be on the level of ~(0.01-0.05) V being located at the plasma density maxima. The highly charged ions are also localized close to the ECR surface. The biased electrode effect is due to an electron string along the source axis formed by reflection of electrons from the biased electrode and the extraction aperture. The string makes profiles of the highly charged ions more peaked on the source axis, thus increasing the extracted ion currents.

The spin-triplet correlations in superconducting spin valve structures arising in the presence of noncollinear textures of magnetic moment are shown to enhance strongly the electromagnetic proximity effect, i. e. the long-range leakage of the magnetic field from the ferromagnet (F) to the superconducting (S) layer. Both the dirty and clean limits are studied on the basis of the Usadel and Eilenberger theory, correspondingly. Our results suggest a natural explanation for the puzzling enhancement of the spontaneous magnetic fields induced by the noncollinear magnetic structures observed by the muon spin rotation techniques in a wide class of layered S/F systems. We show that the electromagnetic proximity effect causes the shift of the Fraunhofer dependence of the critical current on the external magnetic field in the Josephson junction with one superconducting electrode covered by the ferromagnetic layer. This provides an alternative way to measure both the magnitude and the direction of the spontaneous magnetic field induced in the superconductor. We also demonstrate the possibility of the long ranged superconductivity control of the magnetic state in F$_1$/S/F$_2$ structures.

We investigate the process of entangled state of light generation while propagation along a one dimensional array of single-mode nonlinear waveguides. We consider a situation when entanglement is formed due to spontaneous parametric down-conversion of the pump which is present only in a signal waveguide. In the considered process the generated state of light is multi-mode squeezed. We demonstrate that starting from certain distance of light propagation only pairs of waveguides, located symmetrically with respect to the pumped one, occur to be entangled. Also there is an optimal pump amplitude for which the formed quantum correlations are most pronounced. Entanglement for multi-mode squeezed states may be very sensitive for phase fluctuations in the pump. We investigate the influence of such noise on the discussed process. We demonstrate that for situation of generation of few photon entangled states the influence of phase fluctuations is negligible. But it dramatically increase with the growth of average photon numbers in the formed quantum states.

We propose a microscopic theory of terahertz (THz) radiation generation on metal gratings under the action of femtosecond laser pulses. In contrast to previous models, only low-frequency currents inside the metal are considered without involving electron emission. The presented model is based on plasmon-enhanced thermal effects and explains the resonant character of optical-to-THz conversion giving an adequate estimation for the full signal energy. Numerical modeling reproduces specific experimental features like delayed character of THz response and low conversion efficiency when the grating depth is too large.

We studied IMDT performance for synthetic benchmarks, scientific kernels, and applications. We chose these benchmarks to represent different patterns for computation and accessing data on disks and memory. To put performance of IMDT in comparison, we used two memory configurations: hybrid IMDT DDR4/Optane and DDR4 only systems. The performance was measured as a percentage of used memory and analyzed in detail. We found that for some applications DDR4/Optane hybrid configuration outperforms DDR4 setup by up to 20%.

We show that a wide class of layered superconductor-ferromagnet (S/F) hybrids demonstrate the emergence of the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) phase well below the superconducting transition temperature. Decreasing the temperature one can switch the system from uniform to the FFLO state which is accompanied by the damping of the diamagnetic Meissner response down to zero and also by the sign change in the curvature of the current-velocity dependence. Our estimates show that an additional layer of the normal metal (N) covering the ferromagnet substantially soften the conditions required for the predicted FFLO instability and for existing S/F/N systems the temperature of the transition into the FFLO phase can reach several kelvins.

We demonstrate theoretically that ultrafast heating of metal nanoparticles by the laser pulse should lead to the generation of coherent terahertz (THz) radiation during the heat redistribution process. It is shown that after the femtosecond laser pulse action the time-dependent gradient of the electronic temperature induces low-frequency particle polarization with the characteristic timescale of about fractions of picosecond. In the case of the directed metallic pattern, the THz pulse waveform can be controlled by changing geometry of the individual particle. The generation mechanism proposed in this Letter can be used for interpretation of the recent experiments on the THz generation from metallic nanoparticles and nanostructures.

The self-action features of wave packets propagating in a two-dimensional system of equidistantly arranged fibers are studied analytically and numerically on the basis of the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Self-consistent equations for the characteristic scales of a Gaussian wave packet are derived on the basis of the variational approach, which are proved numerically for powers $\mathcal{P} < 10 \mathcal{P}_\text{cr}$ exceeding slightly the critical one for self-focusing. At higher powers, the wave beams become filamented, and their amplitude is limited due to nonlinear breaking of the interaction between neighbor light-guides. This make impossible to collect a powerful wave beam into the single light-guide. The variational analysis show the possibility of adiabatic self-compression of soliton-like laser pulses in the process of their three-dimensional self-focusing to the central light-guide. However, the further increase of the field amplitude during self-compression leads to the longitudinal modulation instability development and formation of a set of light bullets in the central fiber. In the regime of hollow wave beams, filamentation instability becomes predominant. As a result, it becomes possible to form a set of light bullets in optical fibers located on the ring.

We study the possibility of efficient self-compression of femtosecond laser pulses in nonlinear media with anomalous dispersion of group velocity during the self-focusing of wave packets with a power several times greater than the critical self-focusing power. The results of qualitative analysis of the evolution of three-dimensional wave packets with the quasi-soliton field distribution are confirmed by the computer simulation. The simulation proves that the considered regime of compression of high-power laser pulses with initial durations of about ten optical cycles is stable relative to filamentation instability due to the influence of the nonlinear dispersion. We demonstrate the possibility of self-compression of laser pulses at a multi-millijoule energy level and up to one optical cycle with an energy efficiency of more then 50%.

Mean electron energies are found to be around 70 keV close to values that are derived from spectra of X-ray emission out of the source. Electron life time is defined by losses of low-energy electrons created in ionizing collisions; the losses are regulated by electron heating rate, which depends on magnitude of the microwave electric field. Changes in ion confinement with variations in the microwave electric field and gas flow are simulated. Influence of electron dynamics on the afterglow and two-frequency heating effects is discussed.

A study of "high temperature" entangled states in a system of two parametrically coupled quantum oscillators placed into independent thermal baths is performed taking into account partially coherent parametric pump. Processes in an open system are considered based on the Heisenberg-Langevin formalism. We obtain a closed system of equations for the averaged quadratic correlation functions in quantum stochastic problem as a result of Markov processes approximation. On the basis of numerical calculations the dynamics of the logarithmic negativity, which is the measure of entanglement in the system, is investigated. It is shown that the partial coherence of the parametric pump makes the lifetime of the entangled states finite. The threshold characteristics of the formation and existence of these states are specified.

Magnetic field can penetrate into type-II superconductors in the form of Abrikosov vortices, which are magnetic flux tubes surrounded by circulating supercurrents often trapped at defects referred to as pinning sites. Although the average properties of the vortex matter can be tuned with magnetic fields, temperature or electric currents, handling of individual vortices remains challenging and has been demonstrated only with sophisticated magnetic force, superconducting quantum interference device or strain-induced scanning local probe microscopies. Here, we introduce a far-field optical method based on local heating of the superconductor with a focused laser beam to realize a fast, precise and non-invasive manipulation of individual Abrikosov vortices, in the same way as with optical tweezers. This simple approach provides the perfect basis for sculpting the magnetic flux profile in superconducting devices like a vortex lens or a vortex cleaner, without resorting to static pinning or ratchet effects. Since a single vortex can induce a Josephson phase shift, our method also paves the way to fast optical drive of Josephson junctions, with potential massive parallelization of operations.

The particle-in-cell MCC code NAM-ECRIS is used to simulate the ECRIS plasma sustained in a mixture of Kr with O2, N2, Ar, Ne and He. The model assumes that ions are electrostatically confined in ECR zone by a dip in the plasma potential. Gain in the extracted krypton ion currents is seen for the highest charge states; the gain is maximized when oxygen is used as the mixing gas. A special feature of oxygen is that most of singly charged oxygen ions are produced after dissociative ionization of oxygen molecules with the large kinetic energy release of around 5 eV per ion. Increased loss rate of energetic lowly charged ions of the mixing element requires building up of the retarding potential barrier close to ECR surface to equilibrate electron and ion losses out of the plasma. In the mixed plasmas, the barrier value is large (~1 V) compared to the pure Kr plasma (~0.01 V), with the longer confinement times of krypton ions and with the much higher ion temperatures.

We take into account the influence of extracellular signalling on neurite elongation in a model of neurite growth mediated by building proteins (e.g. tubulin). Tubulin production dynamics was supplied by a function describing the influence of the extracellular signalling that can promote or depress the elongation. We found that such extracellular feedback can generate neurite length oscillations with periodic sequence of elongations and retractions. The oscillations prevent further outgrowth of the neurite which becomes trapped in the non-uniform extracellular field. We analyzed the characteristics of the elongation process for different distributions of attracting and repelling sources of the extracellular signal molecules. The model predicts three different scenarios of the neurite development in the extracellular field including monotonic and oscillatory outgrowth, localized limit cycle oscillations and complete depression of the growth.

It is known that most of the electrical cables use as insulation compositions based on polyvinyl chloride. Like most polymers, the latter is quite sensitive to thermal aging, which is not without reason, to be one of the main causes of the various types of faults in the polymeric insulation, leading eventually to a short circuit and fire. On the example of the most common polymer insulator-PVC subjected to preliminary partial thermolysis, simulating the process of accelerated aging, we for the first time show that in this case as a result of the aging process, the electrical conductivity of PVC can acquire abnormal (not obeying Ohm's law) character. In this case, transitions from a state with normal (low) conductivity of PVC into the state with an ab-normally high conductivity was clearly observed, being spontaneous uncontrollable process. Es-pecially the large-scale nature of these changes allowing easily transferring polyvinylchloride from a state of typical dielectric (insulator) in a class of conductors attracts attention.). Thus, an-other one of the most important features of a short circuit in the PVC insulation is opened. It is noted that the reduction of fire hazards in this case (by the maximum possible elimination of the phenomenon of short circuit due to thermal aging of polymeric insulation) should be preventive in nature, as the most effective, simple and convenient way.

Manifestations of anomalous conductivity in polar dielectric films is demonstrated for the first time on samples of copolymer of vinylene and vinyl chloride, as was previously observed on modified PVC samples. On the base of these experimental results important new insights into the physical sense of traditionally used in these conditions specific resistivity indicators, both volume and surface, should be replaced by transverse and longitudinal resistance (according to polymer film surface) respectively, because the specific resistivity of polymer composite does not permits to calculate as usual the resistance of sample of arbitrary form..
