No significant $η' \to 4 π^{0}$ signal is observed, and the upper limit on the branching fraction of this decay is determined to be less than $1.24 \times {10^{-5}}$ at the $90\%$ confidence level. In addition, an amplitude analysis of $η' \to π^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{-}$ is performed to extract the doubly virtual isovector form factor $α$ for the first time. The measured value of $α=1.22 \pm 0.33({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.04({\rm syst.})$, is in agreement with the prediction of the VMD model.

We propose to utilize angularity distributions in Higgs boson decay to probe light quark Yukawa couplings at $e^+e^-$ colliders. Angularities $τ_a$ are a class of 2-jet event shapes with variable and tunable sensitivity to the distribution of radiation in hadronic jets in the final state. Using soft-collinear effective theory (SCET), we present a prediction of angularity distributions from Higgs decaying to quark and gluon states at $e^+e^-$ colliders to ${\rm NNLL}+\mathcal{O}(α_s)$ accuracy. Due to the different color structures in quark and gluon jets, the angularity distributions from $H\to q\bar{q}$ and $H\to gg$ show different behaviors and can be used to constrain the light quark Yukawa couplings. We show that the upper limit of light quark Yukawa couplings could be probed to the level of $\sim15\%$ of the bottom quark Yukawa coupling in the Standard Model in a conservative analysis window far away from nonperturbative effects and other uncertainties; the limit can be pushed to $\lesssim 7-9\%$ with better control of the nonperturbative effects especially on gluon angularity distributions and/or with multiple angularities.

Accurate image segmentation is crucial in reservoir modelling and material characterization, enhancing oil and gas extraction efficiency through detailed reservoir models. This precision offers insights into rock properties, advancing digital rock physics understanding. However, creating pixel-level annotations for complex CT and SEM rock images is challenging due to their size and low contrast, lengthening analysis time. This has spurred interest in advanced semi-supervised and unsupervised segmentation techniques in digital rock image analysis, promising more efficient, accurate, and less labour-intensive methods. Meta AI's Segment Anything Model (SAM) revolutionized image segmentation in 2023, offering interactive and automated segmentation with zero-shot capabilities, essential for digital rock physics with limited training data and complex image features. Despite its advanced features, SAM struggles with rock CT/SEM images due to their absence in its training set and the low-contrast nature of grayscale images. Our research fine-tunes SAM for rock CT/SEM image segmentation, optimizing parameters and handling large-scale images to improve accuracy. Experiments on rock CT and SEM images show that fine-tuning significantly enhances SAM's performance, enabling high-quality mask generation in digital rock image analysis. Our results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the fine-tuned SAM model (RockSAM) for rock images, offering segmentation without extensive training or complex labelling.

Spurious velocities arising from the imperfect offset of the undesired term at the discrete level are frequently observed in numerical simulations of equilibrium multiphase flow systems using the lattice Boltzmann equation (LBE) method. To capture the physical equilibrium state of two-phase fluid systems and eliminate spurious velocities, a well-balanced LBE model based on the incompressible phase-field theory is developed. In this model, the equilibrium distribution function for the Cahn-Hilliard (CH) equation is designed by treating the convection term as a source to avoid the introduction of undesired terms, enabling achievement of possible discrete force balance. Furthermore, this approach allows for the attainment of a divergence-free velocity field, effectively mitigating the impact of artificial compression effects and enhancing numerical stability. Numerical tests, including a flat interface problem, a stationary droplet, and the coalescence of two droplets, demonstrate the well-balanced properties and improvements in the stability of the present model.

Large Language Models (LLMs) excel in diverse areas, yet struggle with complex scientific reasoning, especially in the field of chemistry. Different from the simple chemistry tasks (e.g., molecule classification) addressed in previous studies, complex chemistry problems require not only vast knowledge and precise calculation, but also compositional reasoning about rich dynamic interactions of different concepts (e.g., temperature changes). Our study shows that even advanced LLMs, like GPT-4, can fail easily in different ways. Interestingly, the errors often stem not from a lack of domain knowledge within the LLMs, but rather from the absence of an effective reasoning structure that guides the LLMs to elicit the right knowledge, incorporate the knowledge in step-by-step reasoning, and iteratively refine results for further improved quality. On this basis, we introduce StructChem, a simple yet effective prompting strategy that offers the desired guidance and substantially boosts the LLMs' chemical reasoning capability. Testing across four chemistry areas -- quantum chemistry, mechanics, physical chemistry, and kinetics -- StructChem substantially enhances GPT-4's performance, with up to 30\% peak improvement. Our analysis also underscores the unique difficulties of precise grounded reasoning in science with LLMs, highlighting a need for more research in this area. The absolute branching fraction of $Λ_c^+\to pπ^0$ is measured to be $(1.56^{+0.72}_{-0.58}\pm0.20)\times 10^{-4}$. Combining with the branching fraction of $Λ_c^+\to nπ^+$, $(6.6\pm1.3)\times10^{-4}$, the ratio of the branching fractions of $Λ_c^+\to nπ^+$ and $Λ_c^+\to pπ^0$ is calculated to be $3.2^{+2.2}_{-1.2}$. As an important input for the theoretical models describing the decay mechanisms of charmed baryons, our result indicates that the non-factorizable contributions play an essential role and their interference with the factorizable contributions should not be significant. In addition, the absolute branching fraction of $Λ_c^+\to pη$ is measured to be $(1.63\pm0.31_{\rm stat}\pm0.11_{\rm syst}) \times10^{-3}$.

In digital rock physics, analysing microstructures from CT and SEM scans is crucial for estimating properties like porosity and pore connectivity. Traditional segmentation methods like thresholding and CNNs often fall short in accurately detailing rock microstructures and are prone to noise. U-Net improved segmentation accuracy but required many expert-annotated samples, a laborious and error-prone process due to complex pore shapes. Our study employed an advanced generative AI model, the diffusion model, to overcome these limitations. This model generated a vast dataset of CT/SEM and binary segmentation pairs from a small initial dataset. We assessed the efficacy of three neural networks: U-Net, Attention-U-net, and TransUNet, for segmenting these enhanced images. The diffusion model proved to be an effective data augmentation technique, improving the generalization and robustness of deep learning models. TransU-Net, incorporating Transformer structures, demonstrated superior segmentation accuracy and IoU metrics, outperforming both U-Net and Attention-U-net. Our research advances rock image segmentation by combining the diffusion model with cutting-edge neural networks, reducing dependency on extensive expert data and boosting segmentation accuracy and robustness. TransU-Net sets a new standard in digital rock physics, paving the way for future geoscience and engineering breakthroughs.

We study the role of renormalon cancellation schemes and perturbative scale choices in extractions of the strong coupling constant $α_s(m_Z)$ and the leading non-perturbative shift parameter $Ω_1$ from resummed predictions of the $e^+e^-$ event shape thrust. We calculate the thrust distribution to N$^{3}$LL$^\prime$ resummed accuracy in Soft-Collinear Effective Theory (SCET) matched to the fixed-order $\mathcal{O}(α_s^2)$ prediction, and perform a new high-statistics computation of the $\mathcal{O}(α_s^3)$ matching in EERAD3, although we do not include the latter in our final $α_s$ fits due to some observed systematics that require further investigation. We are primarily interested in testing the phenomenological impact sourced from varying amongst three renormalon cancellation schemes and two sets of perturbative scale profile choices. We then perform a global fit to available data spanning center-of-mass energies between 35-207 GeV in each scenario. Relevant subsets of our results are consistent with prior SCET-based extractions of $α_s(m_Z)$, but we are also led to a number of novel observations. Notably, we find that the combined effect of altering the renormalon cancellation scheme and profile parameters can lead to few-percent-level impacts on the extracted values in the $α_s-Ω_1$ plane, indicating a potentially important systematic theory uncertainty that should be accounted for. We also observe that fits performed over windows dominated by dijet events are typically of a higher quality than those that extend into the far tails of the distributions, possibly motivating future fits focused more heavily in this region. Finally, we discuss how different estimates of the three-loop soft matching coefficient $c_{\tilde{S}}^3$ can also lead to measurable changes in the fitted $\lbrace α_s, Ω_1 \rbrace$ values.

A unique attribute of atomically thin quantum materials is the in-situ tunability of their electronic band structure by externally controllable parameters like electrostatic doping, electric field, strain, electron interactions, and displacement or twisting of atomic layers. This unparalleled control of the electronic bands has led to the discovery of a plethora of exotic emergent phenomena. But despite its key role, there is currently no versatile method for mapping the local band structure in advanced 2D materials devices in which the active layer is commonly embedded in various insulating layers and metallic gates. Utilizing a scanning superconducting quantum interference device, we image the de Haas-van Alphen quantum oscillations in a model system, the Bernal-stacked trilayer graphene with dual gates, which displays multiple highly-tunable bands. By resolving thermodynamic quantum oscillations spanning over 100 Landau levels in low magnetic fields, we reconstruct the band structure and its controllable evolution with the displacement field with unprecedented precision and spatial resolution of 150 nm. Moreover, by developing Landau level interferometry, we reveal shear-strain-induced pseudomagnetic fields and map their spatial dependence. In contrast to artificially-induced large strain, which leads to pseudomagnetic fields of hundreds of Tesla, we detect naturally occurring pseudomagnetic fields as low as 1 mT corresponding to graphene twisting by just 1 millidegree over one μm distance, two orders of magnitude lower than the typical angle disorder in high-quality twisted bilayer graphene devices. This ability to resolve the local band structure and strain on the nanoscale opens the door to the characterization and utilization of tunable band engineering in practical van der Waals devices.

Processing-in-memory (PIM), as a novel computing paradigm, provides significant performance benefits from the aspect of effective data movement reduction. SRAM-based PIM has been demonstrated as one of the most promising candidates due to its endurance and compatibility. However, the integration density of SRAM-based PIM is much lower than other non-volatile memory-based ones, due to its inherent 6T structure for storing a single bit. Within comparable area constraints, SRAM-based PIM exhibits notably lower capacity. Thus, aiming to unleash its capacity potential, we propose DDC-PIM, an efficient algorithm/architecture co-design methodology that effectively doubles the equivalent data capacity. At the algorithmic level, we propose a filter-wise complementary correlation (FCC) algorithm to obtain a bitwise complementary pair. At the architecture level, we exploit the intrinsic cross-coupled structure of 6T SRAM to store the bitwise complementary pair in their complementary states ($Q/\overline{Q}$), thereby maximizing the data capacity of each SRAM cell. The dual-broadcast input structure and reconfigurable unit support both depthwise and pointwise convolution, adhering to the requirements of various neural networks. Evaluation results show that DDC-PIM yields about $2.84\times$ speedup on MobileNetV2 and $2.69\times$ on EfficientNet-B0 with negligible accuracy loss compared with PIM baseline implementation. Compared with state-of-the-art SRAM-based PIM macros, DDC-PIM achieves up to $8.41\times$ and $2.75\times$ improvement in weight density and area efficiency, respectively.

Non-trivial electronic states are attracting intense attention in low-dimensional physics. Though chirality has been identified in charge states with a scalar order parameter, its intertwining with charge density waves (CDW), film thickness and the impact on the electronic behaviors remain less well understood. Here, using scanning tunneling microscopy, we report a 2 x 2 chiral CDW as well as a strong suppression of the Te-5p hole-band backscattering in monolayer 1T-TiTe2. These exotic characters vanish in bilayer TiTe2 with a non-CDW state. Theoretical calculations approve that chirality comes from a helical stacking of the triple-q CDW components and therefore can persist at the two-dimensional limit. Furthermore, the chirality renders the Te-5p bands an unconventional orbital texture that prohibits electron backscattering. Our study establishes TiTe2 as a promising playground for manipulating the chiral ground states at the monolayer limit and provides a novel path to engineer electronic properties from an orbital degree.

Quantum oscillations originating from the quantization of the electron cyclotron orbits provide ultrasensitive diagnostics of electron bands and interactions in novel materials. We report on the first direct-space nanoscale imaging of the thermodynamic magnetization oscillations due to the de Haas-van Alphen effect in moiré graphene. Scanning by SQUID-on-tip in Bernal bilayer graphene crystal-axis-aligned to hBN reveals abnormally large magnetization oscillations with amplitudes reaching 500 μ_B/electron in weak magnetic fields, unexpectedly low frequencies, and high sensitivity to the superlattice filling fraction. The oscillations allow us to reconstruct the complex band structure in exquisite detail, revealing narrow moiré bands with multiple overlapping Fermi surfaces separated by unusually small momentum gaps. We identify distinct sets of oscillations that violate the textbook Onsager Fermi surface sum rule, signaling formation of exotic broad-band particle-hole superposition states induced by coherent magnetic breakdown.

Automatically generated reports from medical images promise to improve the workflow of radiologists. Existing methods consider an image-to-report modeling task by directly generating a fully-fledged report from an image. However, this conflates the content of the report (e.g., findings and their attributes) with its style (e.g., format and choice of words), which can lead to clinically inaccurate reports. To address this, we propose a two-step approach for radiology report generation. First, we extract the content from an image; then, we verbalize the extracted content into a report that matches the style of a specific radiologist. For this, we leverage RadGraph -- a graph representation of reports -- together with large language models (LLMs). In our quantitative evaluations, we find that our approach leads to beneficial performance. Our human evaluation with clinical raters highlights that the AI-generated reports are indistinguishably tailored to the style of individual radiologist despite leveraging only a few examples as context.

Current architectures are now equipped with matrix computation units designed to enhance AI and high-performance computing applications. Within these architectures, two fundamental instruction types are matrix multiplication and vector outer product, with the latter being lighter due to its vector inputs. This characteristic not only allows for the development of flexible algorithms beyond dense linear algebra computations but also offers greater potential for implementation optimization. Stencil computations, commonly found in scientific and engineering applications, involve nested loops. This paper introduces a novel stencil algorithm leveraging vector outer products. Unlike previous approaches, this algorithm emerges from the stencil definition in scatter mode and is initially formulated using vector outer product expressions. The implementation integrates a series of optimizations to enhance memory reference patterns, execution pipeline efficiency, and data reuse. These optimizations consider various algorithmic options and data sharing among input vectors. Evaluation conducted on a simulator demonstrates that our proposed design achieves significant speedup compared to vectorized stencil algorithms.

The anomalous magnetic (MDM) and electric (EDM) dipole moments of the $τ$ lepton serve as crucial indicators of new physics beyond the Standard Model. Leveraging azimuthal angular asymmetry as a novel tool in ultraperipheral collisions (UPCs), we attain unparalleled precision in the study of these key properties. Driven by the highly linear polarization of coherent photons, this method uniquely enables both the MDM and EDM to contribute to the $\cos2φ$ angular distribution in similar magnitudes. Importantly, our approach substantially narrows the parameter space, excluding more than half of it compared to expected UPC-based measurements reliant solely on the total cross-section. This method not only provides improved constraints but also minimizes the need for additional theoretical assumptions.

The heterogeneous information network (HIN), which contains rich semantics depicted by meta-paths, has emerged as a potent tool for mitigating data sparsity in recommender systems. Existing HIN-based recommender systems operate under the assumption of centralized storage and model training. However, real-world data is often distributed due to privacy concerns, leading to the semantic broken issue within HINs and consequent failures in centralized HIN-based recommendations. In this paper, we suggest the HIN is partitioned into private HINs stored on the client side and shared HINs on the server. Following this setting, we propose a federated heterogeneous graph neural network (FedHGNN) based framework, which facilitates collaborative training of a recommendation model using distributed HINs while protecting user privacy. Specifically, we first formalize the privacy definition for HIN-based federated recommendation (FedRec) in the light of differential privacy, with the goal of protecting user-item interactions within private HIN as well as users' high-order patterns from shared HINs. To recover the broken meta-path based semantics and ensure proposed privacy measures, we elaborately design a semantic-preserving user interactions publishing method, which locally perturbs user's high-order patterns and related user-item interactions for publishing. Subsequently, we introduce an HGNN model for recommendation, which conducts node- and semantic-level aggregations to capture recovered semantics. Extensive experiments on four datasets demonstrate that our model outperforms existing methods by a substantial margin (up to 34% in HR@10 and 42% in NDCG@10) under a reasonable privacy budget.

Nowadays, Microchannel Plate (MCP), as a kind of electron multipliers based on the secondary electron emission, is widely used in many high-sensitive experiments, such as neutrino detection, which require the noise to be as low as possible, while the conventional straight-channel MCP will inevitably have ion feedback, resulting in the sequential after-pulses being the major source of noise. Normally, the problem can be effectively avoided by coupling two straight-channel MCPs in cascade and combining the channels into a `V` shape known as chevron MCPs, but this method is limited by the manufacturing techniques due to the unavoidable gap between the two pieces that will worsen the resolution and peak-to-valley ratio. However, the ion feedback can be inhibited significantly for MCPs with curved channels. Based on Geant4, we investigate how the geometrical parameters of curved-channel MCP influence the gain and get the optimum pore diameter for an MCP to reach the maximum gain with fixed thickness and applied voltage. Additionally, the track-by-track simulation reveals that the average acceleration distance of a secondary electron inside the curved-channel is approximately 20 um when the applied voltage, length-to-diameter ratio and pore diameter are 950 V, 50:1 and 20 um, respectively.

The simulation of the instruments based on the cascade multiplication of electrons has always been an important and challenging subject in no matter high energy physics, astrophysics, radiography and other fields. In this work, a generic simulation toolkit is developed based on Geant4, ROOT and CADMesh toolkits for the electron multipliers based on the emission process of secondary electrons, especially for Microchannel Plate (MCP). Geometry of instruments can be directly imported by standard CAD files and multiple kinds of electromagnetic fields are supported. MCPSim is capable for simulating the general hadronic, weak and electromagnetic processes together with secondary electron emission, which provides a wider range of applications. Users are able to configure the simulation and define the output information by a simple textfile. By comparing with experimental measurements, good agreement is found. MCPSim is expected to guide the design and optimization of such electron multipliers and will be continuously developed and maintained to better satisfy the present and future requirements.

Prevailing approaches to APA normally leverage neural models trained with a regression loss function, such as the mean-squared error (MSE) loss, for proficiency level prediction. Despite most regression models can effectively capture the ordinality of proficiency levels in the feature space, they are confronted with a primary obstacle that different phoneme categories with the same proficiency level are inevitably forced to be close to each other, retaining less phoneme-discriminative information. On account of this, we devise a phonemic contrast ordinal (PCO) loss for training regression-based APA models, which aims to preserve better phonemic distinctions between phoneme categories meanwhile considering ordinal relationships of the regression target output. Specifically, we introduce a phoneme-distinct regularizer into the MSE loss, which encourages feature representations of different phoneme categories to be far apart while simultaneously pulling closer the representations belonging to the same phoneme category by means of weighted distances. An extensive set of experiments carried out on the speechocean762 benchmark dataset suggest the feasibility and effectiveness of our model in relation to some existing state-of-the-art models.

The $Σ^{+}$ hyperons are produced by the collisions of $Λ$ hyperons from $J/ψ$ decays with nuclei in the material of the BESIII detector. The total cross section of $Λ+ ^{9}{\rm Be} \rightarrow Σ^+ + X$ is measured to be $σ= (37.3 \pm 4.7 \pm 3.5)~{\rm mb}$ at $Λ$ beam momenta within $[1.057, 1.091]~{\rm GeV}/c$, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. This analysis is the first study of $Λ$-nucleon interactions at an $e^+ e^-$ collider, providing information and constraints relevant for the strong-interaction potential, the origin of color confinement, the unified model for baryon-baryon interactions, and the internal structure of neutron stars.

Recent works in end-to-end speech-to-text translation (ST) have proposed multi-tasking methods with soft parameter sharing which leverage machine translation (MT) data via secondary encoders that map text inputs to an eventual cross-modal representation. In this work, we instead propose a ST/MT multi-tasking framework with hard parameter sharing in which all model parameters are shared cross-modally. Our method reduces the speech-text modality gap via a pre-processing stage which converts speech and text inputs into two discrete token sequences of similar length -- this allows models to indiscriminately process both modalities simply using a joint vocabulary. With experiments on MuST-C, we demonstrate that our multi-tasking framework improves attentional encoder-decoder, Connectionist Temporal Classification (CTC), transducer, and joint CTC/attention models by an average of +0.5 BLEU without any external MT data. Further, we show that this framework incorporates external MT data, yielding +0.8 BLEU, and also improves transfer learning from pre-trained textual models, yielding +1.8 BLEU.

Speech signals, typically sampled at rates in the tens of thousands per second, contain redundancies, evoking inefficiencies in sequence modeling. High-dimensional speech features such as spectrograms are often used as the input for the subsequent model. However, they can still be redundant. Recent investigations proposed the use of discrete speech units derived from self-supervised learning representations, which significantly compresses the size of speech data. Applying various methods, such as de-duplication and subword modeling, can further compress the speech sequence length. Hence, training time is significantly reduced while retaining notable performance. In this study, we undertake a comprehensive and systematic exploration into the application of discrete units within end-to-end speech processing models. Experiments on 12 automatic speech recognition, 3 speech translation, and 1 spoken language understanding corpora demonstrate that discrete units achieve reasonably good results in almost all the settings. We intend to release our configurations and trained models to foster future research efforts.

To bridge this gap, we introduce target language context in E2E-ST, enhancing coherence and overcoming memory constraints of extended audio segments. Additionally, we propose context dropout to ensure robustness to the absence of context, and further improve performance by adding speaker information. Our proposed contextual E2E-ST outperforms the isolated utterance-based E2E-ST approach. Lastly, we demonstrate that in conversational speech, contextual information primarily contributes to capturing context style, as well as resolving anaphora and named entities.

Designing effective automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems for Code-Switching (CS) often depends on the availability of the transcribed CS resources. To address data scarcity, this paper introduces Speech Collage, a method that synthesizes CS data from monolingual corpora by splicing audio segments. We further improve the smoothness quality of audio generation using an overlap-add approach. We investigate the impact of generated data on speech recognition in two scenarios: using in-domain CS text and a zero-shot approach with synthesized CS text. Empirical results highlight up to 34.4% and 16.2% relative reductions in Mixed-Error Rate and Word-Error Rate for in-domain and zero-shot scenarios, respectively. Lastly, we demonstrate that CS augmentation bolsters the model's code-switching inclination and reduces its monolingual bias.

Multilingual self-supervised learning (SSL) has often lagged behind state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods due to the expenses and complexity required to handle many languages. This further harms the reproducibility of SSL, which is already limited to few research groups due to its resource usage. We show that more powerful techniques can actually lead to more efficient pre-training, opening SSL to more research groups. We propose WavLabLM, which extends WavLM's joint prediction and denoising to 40k hours of data across 136 languages. To build WavLabLM, we devise a novel multi-stage pre-training method, designed to address the language imbalance of multilingual data. WavLabLM achieves comparable performance to XLS-R on ML-SUPERB with less than 10% of the training data, making SSL realizable with academic compute. We show that further efficiency can be achieved with a vanilla HuBERT Base model, which can maintain 94% of XLS-R's performance with only 3% of the data, 4 GPUs, and limited trials. We open-source all code and models in ESPnet.

The ratio of decay asymmetry parameters of $Λ\to nπ^0$ to that of $Λ\to pπ^-$, $\langle α_0 \rangle/ \langle α_{Λ-} \rangle $, is determined to be $ 0.873 \pm 0.012^{+0.011}_{-0.010}$, where the first and the second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The ratio is smaller than unity more than $5σ$, which signifies the existence of the $ΔI = 3/2$ transition in $Λ$ for the first time. Beside, we test for CP violation in $Ξ^- \to Λπ^-$ and in $Λ\to n π^{0}$ with the best precision to date.

Pre-training speech models on large volumes of data has achieved remarkable success. OpenAI Whisper is a multilingual multitask model trained on 680k hours of supervised speech data. It generalizes well to various speech recognition and translation benchmarks even in a zero-shot setup. However, the full pipeline for developing such models (from data collection to training) is not publicly accessible, which makes it difficult for researchers to further improve its performance and address training-related issues such as efficiency, robustness, fairness, and bias. This work presents an Open Whisper-style Speech Model (OWSM), which reproduces Whisper-style training using an open-source toolkit and publicly available data. OWSM even supports more translation directions and can be more efficient to train. We will publicly release all scripts used for data preparation, training, inference, and scoring as well as pre-trained models and training logs to promote open science.

Intense light-matter interactions have revolutionized our ability to probe and manipulate quantum systems at sub-femtosecond time scales, opening routes to all-optical control of electronic currents in solids at petahertz rates. Such control typically requires electric field amplitudes $\sim V/Å$, when the voltage drop across a lattice site becomes comparable to the characteristic band gap energies. In this regime, intense light-matter interaction induces significant modifications of electronic and optical properties, dramatically modifying the crystal band structure. Yet, identifying and characterizing such modifications remains an outstanding problem. As the oscillating electric field changes within the driving field's cycle, does the band-structure follow, and how can it be defined? Here we address this fundamental question, proposing all-optical spectroscopy to probe laser-induced closing of the band-gap between adjacent conduction bands. Our work reveals the link between nonlinear light matter interactions in strongly driven crystals and the sub-cycle modifications in their effective band structure.

Blockwise self-attentional encoder models have recently emerged as one promising end-to-end approach to simultaneous speech translation. These models employ a blockwise beam search with hypothesis reliability scoring to determine when to wait for more input speech before translating further. However, this method maintains multiple hypotheses until the entire speech input is consumed -- this scheme cannot directly show a single \textit{incremental} translation to users. Further, this method lacks mechanisms for \textit{controlling} the quality vs. latency tradeoff. We propose a modified incremental blockwise beam search incorporating local agreement or hold-$n$ policies for quality-latency control. We apply our framework to models trained for online or offline translation and demonstrate that both types can be effectively used in online mode.
Experimental results on MuST-C show 0.6-3.6 BLEU improvement without changing latency or 0.8-1.4 s latency improvement without changing quality.

Sorting is fundamental and ubiquitous in modern computing systems. Hardware sorting systems are built based on comparison operations with Von Neumann architecture, but their performance are limited by the bandwidth between memory and comparison units and the performance of complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) based circuitry. Sort-in-memory (SIM) based on emerging memristors is desired but not yet available due to comparison operations that are challenging to be implemented within memristive memory. Here we report fast and reconfigurable SIM system enabled by digit read (DR) on 1-transistor-1-resistor (1T1R) memristor arrays. We develop DR tree node skipping (TNS) that support variable data quantity and data types, and extend TNS with multi-bank, bit-slice and multi-level strategies to enable cross-array TNS (CA-TNS) for practical adoptions. Experimented on benchmark sorting datasets, our memristor-enabled SIM system presents up to 3.32x~7.70x speedup, 6.23x~183.5x energy efficiency improvement and 2.23x~7.43x area reduction compared with state-of-the-art sorting systems. We apply such SIM system for shortest path search with Dijkstra's algorithm and neural network inference with in-situ pruning, demonstrating the capability in solving practical sorting tasks and the compatibility in integrating with other compute-in-memory (CIM) schemes. The comparison-free TNS/CA-TNS SIM enabled by memristors pushes sorting into a new paradigm of sort-in-memory for next-generation sorting systems.

Self-supervised representation learning has gained increasing attention for strong generalization ability without relying on paired datasets. However, it has not been explored sufficiently for facial representation. Self-supervised facial representation learning remains unsolved due to the coupling of facial identities, expressions, and external factors like pose and light. Prior methods primarily focus on contrastive learning and pixel-level consistency, leading to limited interpretability and suboptimal performance. In this paper, we propose LatentFace, a novel generative framework for self-supervised facial representations. We suggest that the disentangling problem can be also formulated as generative objectives in space and time, and propose the solution using a 3D-aware latent diffusion model. First, we introduce a 3D-aware autoencoder to encode face images into 3D latent embeddings. Second, we propose a novel representation diffusion model to disentangle 3D latent into facial identity and expression. Consequently, our method achieves state-of-the-art performance in facial expression recognition (FER) and face verification among self-supervised facial representation learning models. Our model achieves a 3.75\% advantage in FER accuracy on RAF-DB and 3.35\% on AffectNet compared to SOTA methods.

In this study, we describe the monitoring concept and present the sensitivity of the system to pre-SN and SN neutrinos at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), a 20 kton liquid scintillator detector currently under construction in South China. The real-time monitoring system is designed to ensure both prompt alert speed and comprehensive coverage of progenitor stars. It incorporates prompt monitors on the electronic board as well as online monitors at the data acquisition stage. Assuming a false alert rate of 1 per year, this monitoring system exhibits sensitivity to pre-SN neutrinos up to a distance of approximately 1.6 (0.9) kiloparsecs and SN neutrinos up to about 370 (360) kiloparsecs for a progenitor mass of 30 solar masses, considering both normal and inverted mass ordering scenarios. The pointing ability of the CCSN is evaluated by analyzing the accumulated event anisotropy of inverse beta decay interactions from pre-SN or SN neutrinos. This, along with the early alert, can play a crucial role in facilitating follow-up multi-messenger observations of the next galactic or nearby extragalactic CCSN.

Rare-earth monopnictides are a family of materials simultaneously displaying complex magnetism, strong electronic correlation, and topological band structure. The recently discovered emergent arc-like surface states in these materials have been attributed to the multi-wave-vector antiferromagnetic order, yet the direct experimental evidence has been elusive. Here we report the observation of non-collinear antiferromagnetic order with multiple modulations using spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy. Moreover, we discover a hidden spin-rotation transition of single-to-multiple modulations 2 K below the Neel temperature. The hidden transition coincides with the onset of the surface states splitting observed by our angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements. Single modulation gives rise to a band inversion with induced topological surface states in a local momentum region while the full Brillouin zone carries trivial topological indices, and multiple modulation further splits the surface bands via non-collinear spin tilting, as revealed by our calculations. The direct evidence of the non-collinear spin order in NdSb not only clarifies the mechanism of the emergent topological surface states, but also opens up a new paradigm of control and manipulation of band topology with magnetism.

The ratio between $\mathcal{B}_{Ω^- \to Ξ^0 π^-}$ and $\mathcal{B}_{Ω^- \to Ξ^- π^0}$ is determined to be $2.97\pm0.19\pm0.11$, which is in good agreement with the PDG value of $2.74\pm0.15$, but greater by more than four standard deviations than the theoretical prediction of 2 obtained from the $ΔI = 1/2$ rule.

As the only W-annihilation free decay among $D$ to $a_{0}(980)$-pseudoscalar, $D^{+}\to K_{S}^{0}a_{0}(980)^{+}$ is the ideal decay to extract the contributions of the external and internal $W$-emission amplitudes involving $a_{0}(980)$ and study the final-state interactions. The absolute branching fraction of $D^{+}\to K_{S}^{0}π^+η$ is measured to be $(1.27\pm0.04_{\rm stat.}\pm0.03_{\rm syst.})\%$. The product branching fractions of $D^{+}\to K_{S}^{0}a_{0}(980)^{+}$ with $a_{0}(980)^{+}\to π^+η$ and $D^{+}\to π^+ K_0^*(1430)^0$ with $K_0^*(1430)^0\to K_{S}^{0}η$ are measured to be $(1.33\pm0.05_{\rm stat.}\pm0.04_{\rm syst.})\%$ and $(0.14\pm0.03_{\rm stat.}\pm0.01_{\rm syst.})\%$, respectively.

The absolute branching fraction of $Λ_{c}^{+}\to Σ^{-}K^{+}π^{+}$ is measured to be $(3.8\pm1.3_{\rm stat}\pm0.2_{\rm syst})\times 10^{-4}$ in a model-independent approach. This is the first observation of a Cabibbo-suppressed $Λ_{c}^{+}$ decay involving $Σ^-$ in the final state. The ratio of branching fractions between $Λ_{c}^{+}\to Σ^{-}K^{+}π^{+}$ and the Cabibbo-favored decay $Λ_{c}^{+}\to Σ^- π^+π^+$ is calculated to be $(0.4 \pm 0.1)s_{c}^{2}$, where $s_{c} \equiv \sinθ_c = 0.2248$ with $θ_c$ the Cabibbo mixing angle. This ratio significantly deviates from $1.0s_{c}^{2}$ and provides important information for the understanding of nonfactorization contributions in $Λ_{c}^{+}$ decays.

Evidence for the decay $ψ(3770)\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+}$ is observed with a significance of 4.5$σ$ by analyzing the measured cross sections together with earlier BESIII results. For the other charmonium(-like) states $ψ(4040)$, $ψ(4160)$, $Y(4230)$, $Y(4360)$, $ψ(4415)$, and $Y(4660)$, no significant signal of their decay to $Ξ^-\bar Ξ^+$ is found. For these states, upper limits of the products of the branching fraction and the electronic partial width at the 90% confidence level are provided.

One of the fundamental goals of particle physics is to gain microscopic understanding of the strong interaction. Electromagnetic form factors quantify the structure of hadrons in terms of charge and magnetization distributions. While the nucleon structure has been investigated extensively, data on hyperons is still scarce. It has recently been demonstrated that electron-positron annihilations into hyperon-antihyperon pairs provide a powerful tools to investigate their inner structure. We present a novel method useful for hyperon-antihyperon pairs of different types which exploits the cross section enhancement due to the vacuum polarization effect at the $J/ψ$ resonance. Using the 10 billion $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector, this allows a thorough determination of the hyperon structure . The result is essentially a precise snapshot of a $\barΛΣ^0$~($Λ\barΣ^0$) pair in the making, encoded in the form factor ratio and the phase. Their values are measured to be $R = 0.860\pm0.029({\rm stat.})\pm0.010({\rm syst.})$, $ΔΦ_1=(1.011\pm0.094({\rm stat.})\pm0.010({\rm syst.}))~\rm rad$ for $\barΛΣ^0$ and $ΔΦ_2=(2.128\pm0.094({\rm stat.})\pm0.010({\rm syst.}))~\rm rad$ for $Λ\barΣ^0$, respectively. Furthermore, charge-parity (CP) breaking is investigated for the first time in this reaction and found to be consistent with CP symmetry.
