Based on $6.1~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at center-of-mass energies from 4.600~GeV to 4.843~GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, a partial wave analysis of $Λ_c^+\toΛπ^+η$ is performed, and branching fractions and decay asymmetry parameters of intermediate processes are determined. The process $Λ_c^+\toΛa_0(980)^+$ is observed for the first time, and evidence for the pentaquark candidate $Σ(1380)^+$ decaying into $Λπ^+$ is found with statistical significance larger than $3σ$. The branching fraction product $\mathcal{B}(Λ_{c}^{+} \to Λa_0(980)^+) \; \mathcal{B}( a_0(980)^+ \to π^{+}η)$ is determined to be $(1.05 \pm 0.16_{\mathrm{stat}} \pm 0.05_{\mathrm{syst}} \pm 0.07_{\mathrm{ext}})\%$, which is larger than theoretical calculations by $1 - 2$ orders of magnitude. Here the third (external) systematic is from $\mathcal{B}(Λ_{c}^{+} \to Λπ^+ η)$. Finally, we precisely obtain the absolute branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(Λ_{c}^{+} \to Λπ^+ η) = (1.94 \pm 0.07_{\mathrm{stat}} \pm 0.11_{\mathrm{syst}})\%$.

Long-separated research has been conducted on two highly correlated tracks: traffic and incidents. Traffic track witnesses complicating deep learning models, e.g., to push the prediction a few percent more accurate, and the incident track only studies the incidents alone, e.g., to infer the incident risk. We, for the first time, spatiotemporally aligned the two tracks in a large-scale region (16,972 traffic nodes) over the whole year of 2023: our XTraffic dataset includes traffic, i.e., time-series indexes on traffic flow, lane occupancy, and average vehicle speed, and incidents, whose records are spatiotemporally-aligned with traffic data, with seven different incident classes. Additionally, each node includes detailed physical and policy-level meta-attributes of lanes. Our data can revolutionalize traditional traffic-related tasks towards higher interpretability and practice: instead of traditional prediction or classification tasks, we conduct: (1) post-incident traffic forecasting to quantify the impact of different incidents on traffic indexes; (2) incident classification using traffic indexes to determine the incidents types for precautions measures; (3) global causal analysis among the traffic indexes, meta-attributes, and incidents to give high-level guidance of the interrelations of various factors; (4) local causal analysis within road nodes to examine how different incidents affect the road segments' relations. The dataset is available at http://xaitraffic.github.io.

Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a common way of diagnosing dental related diseases. Accurate segmentation of 3D tooth is of importance for the treatment. Although deep learning based methods have achieved convincing results in medical image processing, they need a large of annotated data for network training, making it very time-consuming in data collection and annotation. Besides, domain shift widely existing in the distribution of data acquired by different devices impacts severely the model generalization. To resolve the problem, we propose a multi-stage framework for 3D tooth segmentation in dental CBCT, which achieves the third place in the "Semi-supervised Teeth Segmentation" 3D (STS-3D) challenge. The experiments on validation set compared with other semi-supervised segmentation methods further indicate the validity of our approach.

The measurements are in tension with predictions based on the assumption that the $D_{s1}(2536)$ and $D_{s2}^*(2573)$ are dominated by a bare $c\bar{s}$ component. The $e^+e^-\rightarrow D_s^+D_{s1}(2536)^-$ and $e^+e^-\rightarrow D_s^+D^*_{s2}(2573)^-$ cross sections are measured, and a resonant structure at around 4.6~GeV with a width of 50~MeV is observed for the first time with a statistical significance of $15σ$ in the $e^+e^-\rightarrow D_s^+D^*_{s2}(2573)^-$ process. It could be the $Y(4626)$ found by the Belle collaboration in the $D_s^+D_{s1}(2536)^{-}$ final state, since they have similar masses and widths. There is also evidence for a structure at around 4.75~GeV in both processes.

Denoting the Poincaré disk by $\mathcal{D}$, our construction provides a geometry model for such flows $φ$ and manifolds $M$ by identifying the universal coverings of $M$ with certain spaces induced from $\mathcal{D} \times \mathcal{D}$ and identifying the action of $π_1(M)$ on $S^{1}_{\infty}(φ)$ with an action on $\partial \mathcal{D}$.

Both results are compatible within their uncorrelated systematic uncertainties. The combined result is $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η)=(1.495 \pm 0.001 \pm 0.023)\times\,10^{-3}$ where the first uncertainty is the combined statistical uncertainty and the second one the combined systematic uncertainty of both analyses, incorporating correlations between them. In addition, the $p \bar{p}$ threshold region is investigated for a potential threshold enhancement, and no evidence for one is observed.

Large Language Models (LLMs) represent a significant stride toward Artificial General Intelligence. As scaling laws underscore the potential of increasing model sizes, the academic community has intensified its investigations into LLMs with capacities exceeding 50 billion parameters. This technical report builds on our prior work with Tele-FLM (also known as FLM-2), a publicly available 52-billion-parameter model. We delve into two primary areas: we first discuss our observation of Supervised Fine-tuning (SFT) on Tele-FLM-52B, which supports the "less is more" approach for SFT data construction; second, we demonstrate our experiments and analyses on the best practices for progressively growing a model from 52 billion to 102 billion, and subsequently to 1 trillion parameters. We will open-source a 1T model checkpoint, namely Tele-FLM-1T, to advance further training and research.

A quasi-local mass, typically defined as an integral over a spacelike $2$-surface $Σ$, should encode information about the gravitational field within a finite, extended region bounded by $Σ$. Therefore, in attempts to quantize gravity, one may consider an infinite dimensional space of $2$-surfaces instead of an infinite dimensional space of $4$-dimensional Lorentzian spacetimes. However, existing definitions for quasilocal mass only applies to surfaces outside an horizon whose mean curvature vector is spacelike. In this paper, we propose an extension of the Wang-Yau quasi-local energy/mass to surfaces with timelike mean curvature vector, including in particular trapped surfaces. We adopt the same canonical gauge as in the Wang-Yau quasi-local energy but allow the pulled back "killing vector" to the physical spacetime to be spacelike. We define the new quasi-local energy along the Hamiltonian formulation of the Wang-Yau quasi-local energy. The new definition yields a positive definite surface energy density and a new divergence free current. Calculations for coordinate spheres in Kerr family spacetime are shown. In the spherical symmetric case, our definition reduces to a previous definition \cite{lundgren2007self}.

Combining with the known branching fractions of $Λ_c^+ \to pK_{S}^{0}$, $Λ_c^+ \to pK_{S}^{0}π^+π^-$, and $Λ_c^+ \to pK_{S}^{0}π^0$, we present the first measurements of the $K_{S}^{0}$-$K_{L}^{0}$ asymmetries $R(Λ_c^+, K_{S,L}^0X) = \frac{\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+ \to K_{S}^{0} X) - \mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+ \to K_{L}^{0} X)}{\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+ \to K_{S}^{0} X) + \mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+ \to K_{L}^{0} X)}$ in charmed baryon decays: $R(Λ_c^+, pK_{S,L}^0) = -0.025 \pm 0.031$, $R(Λ_c^+, pK_{S,L}^0π^+π^-) = -0.027 \pm 0.048$, and $R(Λ_c^+, pK_{S,L}^0π^0) =-0.015 \pm 0.046$. No significant asymmetries within the uncertainties are observed.

The combination of deep learning and ab initio materials calculations is emerging as a trending frontier of materials science research, with deep-learning density functional theory (DFT) electronic structure being particularly promising. In this work, we introduce a neural-network method for modeling the DFT density matrix, a fundamental yet previously unexplored quantity in deep-learning electronic structure. Utilizing an advanced neural network framework that leverages the nearsightedness and equivariance properties of the density matrix, the method demonstrates high accuracy and excellent generalizability in multiple example studies, as well as capability to precisely predict charge density and reproduce other electronic structure properties. Given the pivotal role of the density matrix in DFT as well as other computational methods, the current research introduces a novel approach to the deep-learning study of electronic structure properties, opening up new opportunities for deep-learning enhanced computational materials study.

This paper aims to advance the progress of physical world interactive scene reconstruction by extending the interactive object reconstruction from single object level to complex scene level. To this end, we first construct one simulated and one real scene-level physical interaction dataset containing 28 scenes with multiple interactive objects per scene. Furthermore, to accurately model the interactive motions of multiple objects in complex scenes, we propose LiveScene, the first scene-level language-embedded interactive neural radiance field that efficiently reconstructs and controls multiple interactive objects in complex scenes. LiveScene introduces an efficient factorization that decomposes the interactive scene into multiple local deformable fields to separately reconstruct individual interactive objects, achieving the first accurate and independent control on multiple interactive objects in a complex scene. Moreover, we introduce an interaction-aware language embedding method that generates varying language embeddings to localize individual interactive objects under different interactive states, enabling arbitrary control of interactive objects using natural language. Finally, we evaluate LiveScene on the constructed datasets OminiSim and InterReal with various simulated and real-world complex scenes. Extensive experiment results demonstrate that the proposed approach achieves SOTA novel view synthesis and language grounding performance, surpassing existing methods by +9.89, +1.30, and +1.99 in PSNR on CoNeRF Synthetic, OminiSim #chanllenging, and InterReal #chanllenging datasets, and +65.12 of mIOU on OminiSim, respectively. Learning a world model for model-free Reinforcement Learning (RL) agents can significantly improve the sample efficiency by learning policies in imagination. However, building a world model for Multi-Agent RL (MARL) can be particularly challenging due to the scalability issue in a centralized architecture arising from a large number of agents, and also the non-stationarity issue in a decentralized architecture stemming from the inter-dependency among agents. To address both challenges, we propose a novel world model for MARL that learns decentralized local dynamics for scalability, combined with a centralized representation aggregation from all agents. We cast the dynamics learning as an auto-regressive sequence modeling problem over discrete tokens by leveraging the expressive Transformer architecture, in order to model complex local dynamics across different agents and provide accurate and consistent long-term imaginations. As the first pioneering Transformer-based world model for multi-agent systems, we introduce a Perceiver Transformer as an effective solution to enable centralized representation aggregation within this context. Results on Starcraft Multi-Agent Challenge (SMAC) show that it outperforms strong model-free approaches and existing model-based methods in both sample efficiency and overall performance.

The capacity limits of continuous-aperture array (CAPA)-based wireless communications are characterized. To this end, an analytically tractable transmission framework is established for both uplink and downlink CAPA systems. Based on this framework, closed-form expressions for the single-user channel capacity are derived. The results are further extended to a multiuser case by characterizing the capacity limits of a two-user channel and proposing the associated capacity-achieving decoding and encoding schemes. 1) For the uplink case, the sum-rate capacity and capacity region, as well as the capacity-achieving detectors, are derived. 2) For the downlink case, the uplink-downlink duality is established by deriving the uplink-to-downlink and downlink-to-uplink transformations under the same power constraint, based on which the optimal power allocation policy and the achieved sum-rate capacity and capacity region are characterized. To gain further insights, several case studies are presented by specializing the derived results into various array structures, including the planar CAPA, linear CAPA, and planar spatially discrete array (SPDA). Numerical results are provided to reveal that: i) the channel capacity achieved by CAPAs converges towards a finite upper bound as the aperture size increases; and ii) CAPAs offer significant capacity gains over the conventional SPDAs.

A comprehensive guidance view for cardiac interventional surgery can be provided by the real-time fusion of the intraoperative 2D images and preoperative 3D volume based on the ultrasound frame-to-volume registration. However, cardiac ultrasound images are characterized by a low signal-to-noise ratio and small differences between adjacent frames, coupled with significant dimension variations between 2D frames and 3D volumes to be registered, resulting in real-time and accurate cardiac ultrasound frame-to-volume registration being a very challenging task. This paper introduces a lightweight end-to-end Cardiac Ultrasound frame-to-volume Registration network, termed CU-Reg. Specifically, the proposed model leverages epicardium prompt-guided anatomical clues to reinforce the interaction of 2D sparse and 3D dense features, followed by a voxel-wise local-global aggregation of enhanced features, thereby boosting the cross-dimensional matching effectiveness of low-quality ultrasound modalities. We further embed an inter-frame discriminative regularization term within the hybrid supervised learning to increase the distinction between adjacent slices in the same ultrasound volume to ensure registration stability. Experimental results on the reprocessed CAMUS dataset demonstrate that our CU-Reg surpasses existing methods in terms of registration accuracy and efficiency, meeting the guidance requirements of clinical cardiac interventional surgery.

Laser cooling typically requires one or more repump lasers to clear dark states and enable recycling transitions. Here, we have achieved cooling of Be+ ions using a single laser beam, facilitated by one-dimensional heating through micromotion. By manipulating the displacement from the trap's nodal line, we precisely controlled the ion micromotion direction and speed, reaching up to 3144 m/s, which corresponds to a 7.1 GHz Doppler frequency shift in our experiment. This approach eliminates the necessity of a 1.25 GHz offset repump laser while keeping the Be+ ions cold in the perpendicular direction. Measurements were taken using cooling laser detuning and imaging of ion trajectories. Molecular dynamics simulations, based on machine learned time-dependent electric field E(X, Y, Z, t) inside the trap, accurately reproduced the experimental observation, illuminating the relationship between the direction of micromotion and the trapping electric filed vector. This work not only provides a robust method for managing the micromotion velocity of ions but also sheds light on laser cooling complex systems that require multiple repumping lasers. Additionally, it offers a method for controlling energy in the context of ion-molecule collision investigations.

However, existing benchmarks for visual language models (VLMs) predominantly focus on single-image inputs, neglecting the crucial aspect of multi-image understanding. In this paper, we introduce a Multi-Image Relational Benchmark MIRB, designed to evaluate VLMs' ability to compare, analyze, and reason across multiple images. Our benchmark encompasses four categories: perception, visual world knowledge, reasoning, and multi-hop reasoning. Through a comprehensive evaluation of a wide range of open-source and closed-source models, we demonstrate that while open-source VLMs were shown to approach the performance of GPT-4V in single-image tasks, a significant performance gap remains in multi-image reasoning tasks. Our findings also reveal that even the state-of-the-art GPT-4V model struggles with our benchmark, underscoring the need for further research and development in this area. We believe our contribution of MIRB could serve as a testbed for developing the next-generation multi-modal models.

Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have exhibited impressive capabilities in visual understanding and reasoning, providing sightly reasonable answers, such as image descriptions. This has spurred extensive research on the evaluation of MLLMs. Most evaluation benchmarks assume that incorrect answers indicate a lack of understanding of the visual content. However, our findings reveal that, in many cases, MLLMs answer questions incorrectly despite correctly understanding the visual content. This suggests that incorrect answers do not necessarily imply a lack of comprehension but may instead result from lacking robustness to leading questions. To comprehensively measure MLLMs' understanding capability and robustness to leading questions, we introduce a MultiModal Robustness benchmark (MMR). MMR contains paired positive and negative questions across 12 categories, meticulously annotated by humans. We evaluate 18 leading MLLMs on the MMB benchmark, revealing that MLLMs suffer from fragility to leading questions despite understanding the visual content. To enhance MLLMs' understanding capability and robustness, we further present a training set with paired positive and negative visual question-answer samples. Experiments verify that MLLMs' robustness can be significantly enhanced by tuning on this new training set. The benchmark, training set, and code can be found at https://github.com/BAAI-DCAI/Multimodal-Robustness-Benchmark.

Topological defects, such as vortices and skyrmions in magnetic and dipolar systems, can give rise to properties that are not observed in typical magnets or dielectrics. Here, we report the discovery of an atomic-scale dipolar vortex lattice in the charge-density-wave (CDW) phase of BaTiS3, a quasi-one-dimensional (quasi-1D) hexagonal chalcogenide, using X-ray synchrotron single-crystal diffraction studies. The vortex lattice consists of a periodic array of vortex-vortex-antivortex patterns composed of electric dipoles from off-center displacements of octahedrally coordinated Ti atoms. Using first-principles calculations and phenomenological modeling, we show that the dipolar vortex lattice in BaTiS3 arises from the coupling between multiple lattice instabilities arising from flat, soft phonon bands. This mechanism contrasts with classical dipolar textures in ferroelectric heterostructures that emerge from the competition between electrostatic and strain energies, and necessitate a dimensional reduction in the form of thin films and heterostructures to stabilize the textures. The observation of dipolar vortices in BaTiS3 brings the ultimate scaling limit for dipolar topologies down to about a nanometer and unveils the intimate connection between crystal symmetry and real-space topology. Our work sets up zero-filling triangular lattice materials with instabilities as a playground for realizing and understanding quantum polarization topologies.

The Hamiltonian of a quantum system is represented in terms of operators corresponding to the kinetic and potential energies of the system. The expectation value of a Hamiltonian and Hamiltonian simulation are two of the most fundamental tasks in quantum computation. The overheads for realizing the two tasks are determined by the Pauli norm of Hamiltonian, which sums over all the absolute values of Pauli coefficients. In this work, we propose a variational quantum algorithm (VQA) called variational quantum Hamiltonian engineering (VQHE) to minimize the Pauli norm of Hamiltonian, such that the overhead for executing expectation value estimation and Hamiltonian simulation can be reduced. First, we develop a theory to encode the Pauli norm optimization problem into the vector L1-norm minimization problem. Then we devise an appropriate cost function and utilize the parameterized quantum circuits (PQC) to minimize the cost function. We also conduct numerical experiments to reduce the Pauli norm of the Ising Hamiltonian and molecules' Hamiltonian to show the efficiency of the proposed VQHE.

In this work we try to search for signals generated by ultra-heavy dark matter at the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) data. We look for possible gamma-ray by dark matter annihilation or decay from 16 dwarf spheroidal galaxies in the field of view of LHAASO. Dwarf spheroidal galaxies are among the most promising targets for indirect detection of dark matter which have low fluxes of astrophysical $γ$-ray background while large amount of dark matter. By analyzing more than 700 days observational data at LHAASO, no significant dark matter signal from 1 TeV to 1 EeV is detected. Accordingly we derive the most stringent constraints on the ultra-heavy dark matter annihilation cross-section up to EeV. The constraints on the lifetime of dark matter in decay mode are also derived.

Web-crawled image-text pairs are inherently noisy. Prior studies demonstrate that semantically aligning and enriching textual descriptions of these pairs can significantly enhance model training across various vision-language tasks, particularly text-to-image generation. However, large-scale investigations in this area remain predominantly closed-source. Our paper aims to bridge this community effort, leveraging the powerful and \textit{open-sourced} LLaMA-3, a GPT-4 level LLM. Our recaptioning pipeline is simple: first, we fine-tune a LLaMA-3-8B powered LLaVA-1.5 and then employ it to recaption 1.3 billion images from the DataComp-1B dataset. Our empirical results confirm that this enhanced dataset, Recap-DataComp-1B, offers substantial benefits in training advanced vision-language models. For discriminative models like CLIP, we observe enhanced zero-shot performance in cross-modal retrieval tasks. For generative models like text-to-image Diffusion Transformers, the generated images exhibit a significant improvement in alignment with users' text instructions, especially in following complex queries. The branching fraction of the decay $η_{c}(1S) \to 2(π^{+}π^{-})η$, which is found to have a strong dependence on the interference pattern between $η_c(1S)$ and non-$η_c(1S)$ processes, is measured in both destructive and constructive interference scenarios for the first time. The mass and width of the $η_{c}(1S)$ are measured to be $M=(2984.14 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.38)$ MeV/$c^{2}$ and $Γ=(28.82 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.82)$ MeV, respectively. Clear signals for the decays of the $χ_{cJ}(J=0,1,2)$ and the $η_{c}(2S)$ to $2(π^{+}π^{-})η$ are also observed for the first time, and the corresponding branching fractions are measured. The ratio of the branching fractions between the $η_{c}(2S)$ and $η_{c}(1S)$ decays is significantly lower than the theoretical prediction, which might suggest different dynamics in their decays.

The causal dependence in data is often characterized by Directed Acyclic Graphical (DAG) models, widely used in many areas. Causal discovery aims to recover the DAG structure using observational data. This paper focuses on causal discovery with multi-variate count data. We are motivated by real-world web visit data, recording individual user visits to multiple websites. Building a causal diagram can help understand user behavior in transitioning between websites, inspiring operational strategy. A challenge in modeling is user heterogeneity, as users with different backgrounds exhibit varied behaviors. Additionally, social network connections can result in similar behaviors among friends. We introduce personalized Binomial DAG models to address heterogeneity and network dependency between observations, which are common in real-world applications. To learn the proposed DAG model, we develop an algorithm that embeds the network structure into a dimension-reduced covariate, learns each node's neighborhood to reduce the DAG search space, and explores the variance-mean relation to determine the ordering. Simulations show our algorithm outperforms state-of-the-art competitors in heterogeneous data. We demonstrate its practical usefulness on a real-world web visit dataset.

We write $$ ν_{>k}=δ_{N_{k+1}^{-1} B_{k+1}} * δ_{(N_{k+1} N_{k+2})^{-1} B_{k+2}} * \cdots. $$ Since the elements in $B_k$ may have very large absolute values, the infinite convolution may not be compactly supported. In this paper, we study the necessary and sufficient conditions for such infinite convolutions being a spectral measure.
Generally, for such infinite convolutions, the necessary conditions for spectrality mainly depend on the properties of the polynomials generated by the complete residue systems. The main result shows that if every $B_k$ satisfies uniform discrete zero condition, and $\{ν_{>k}\}_{k=1}^\infty$ is {\it tight}, then $\# B_k | N_k$ for all integers $k\geq 2$. For some special complete residue systems $\{B_k\}_{k=1}^\infty$, we provide the necessary and sufficient conditions for $μ$ being a spectral measure.

Recent advances in text-to-image models have enabled high-quality personalized image synthesis of user-provided concepts with flexible textual control. In this work, we analyze the limitations of two primary techniques in text-to-image personalization: Textual Inversion and DreamBooth. When integrating the learned concept into new prompts, Textual Inversion tends to overfit the concept, while DreamBooth often overlooks it. We attribute these issues to the incorrect learning of the embedding alignment for the concept. We introduce AttnDreamBooth, a novel approach that addresses these issues by separately learning the embedding alignment, the attention map, and the subject identity in different training stages. We also introduce a cross-attention map regularization term to enhance the learning of the attention map. Our method demonstrates significant improvements in identity preservation and text alignment compared to the baseline methods.

Category discovery methods aim to find novel categories in unlabeled visual data. At training time, a set of labeled and unlabeled images are provided, where the labels correspond to the categories present in the images. The labeled data provides guidance during training by indicating what types of visual properties and features are relevant for performing discovery in the unlabeled data. As a result, changing the categories present in the labeled set can have a large impact on what is ultimately discovered in the unlabeled set. Despite its importance, the impact of labeled data selection has not been explored in the category discovery literature to date. We show that changing the labeled data can significantly impact discovery performance. Motivated by this, we propose two new approaches for automatically selecting the most suitable labeled data based on the similarity between the labeled and unlabeled data. Our observation is that, unlike in conventional supervised transfer learning, the best labeled is neither too similar, nor too dissimilar, to the unlabeled categories. Our resulting approaches obtains state-of-the-art discovery performance across a range of challenging fine-grained benchmark datasets.

6D Object Pose Estimation is a crucial yet challenging task in computer vision, suffering from a significant lack of large-scale datasets. This scarcity impedes comprehensive evaluation of model performance, limiting research advancements. Furthermore, the restricted number of available instances or categories curtails its applications. To address these issues, this paper introduces Omni6DPose, a substantial dataset characterized by its diversity in object categories, large scale, and variety in object materials. Omni6DPose is divided into three main components: ROPE (Real 6D Object Pose Estimation Dataset), which includes 332K images annotated with over 1.5M annotations across 581 instances in 149 categories; SOPE(Simulated 6D Object Pose Estimation Dataset), consisting of 475K images created in a mixed reality setting with depth simulation, annotated with over 5M annotations across 4162 instances in the same 149 categories; and the manually aligned real scanned objects used in both ROPE and SOPE. Omni6DPose is inherently challenging due to the substantial variations and ambiguities. To address this challenge, we introduce GenPose++, an enhanced version of the SOTA category-level pose estimation framework, incorporating two pivotal improvements: Semantic-aware feature extraction and Clustering-based aggregation. Moreover, we provide a comprehensive benchmarking analysis to evaluate the performance of previous methods on this large-scale dataset in the realms of 6D object pose estimation and pose tracking.

Multi-modal retrieval becomes increasingly popular in practice. However, the existing retrievers are mostly text-oriented, which lack the capability to process visual information. Despite the presence of vision-language models like CLIP, the current methods are severely limited in representing the text-only and image-only data. In this work, we present a new embedding model VISTA for universal multi-modal retrieval. Our work brings forth threefold technical contributions. Firstly, we introduce a flexible architecture which extends a powerful text encoder with the image understanding capability by introducing visual token embeddings. Secondly, we develop two data generation strategies, which bring high-quality composed image-text to facilitate the training of the embedding model. Thirdly, we introduce a multi-stage training algorithm, which first aligns the visual token embedding with the text encoder using massive weakly labeled data, and then develops multi-modal representation capability using the generated composed image-text data. In our experiments, VISTA achieves superior performances across a variety of multi-modal retrieval tasks in both zero-shot and supervised settings. The evaluation of Long Video Understanding (LVU) performance poses an important but challenging research problem. Despite previous efforts, the existing video understanding benchmarks are severely constrained by several issues, especially the insufficient lengths of videos, a lack of diversity in video types and evaluation tasks, and the inappropriateness for evaluating LVU performances. To address the above problems, we propose a new benchmark, called MLVU (Multi-task Long Video Understanding Benchmark), for the comprehensive and in-depth evaluation of LVU. MLVU presents the following critical values: 1) The substantial and flexible extension of video lengths, which enables the benchmark to evaluate LVU performance across a wide range of durations. 2) The inclusion of various video genres, e.g., movies, surveillance footage, egocentric videos, cartoons, game videos, etc., which reflects the models' LVU performances in different scenarios. 3) The development of diversified evaluation tasks, which enables a comprehensive examination of MLLMs' key abilities in long-video understanding. The empirical study with 20 latest MLLMs reveals significant room for improvement in today's technique, as all existing methods struggle with most of the evaluation tasks and exhibit severe performance degradation when handling longer videos. Additionally, it suggests that factors such as context length, image-understanding quality, and the choice of LLM backbone can play critical roles in future advancements. We anticipate that MLVU will advance the research of long video understanding by providing a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of MLLMs.

Evidences for $h_c \to K^+ K^- π^0$ and $h_c \to K^+ K^- η$ are found with significances of $3.5σ$ and $3.3σ$, respectively, after considering the systematic uncertainties. The branching fractions of these decays are measured to be $\mathcal{B}(h_c \to π^+ π^- π^0)=(1.36\pm0.16\pm0.14)\times10^{-3}$, $\mathcal{B}(h_c \to K^+ K^- π^0)=(3.26\pm0.84\pm0.36)\times10^{-4}$, and $\mathcal{B}(h_c \to K^+ K^- η)=(3.13\pm1.08\pm0.38)\times10^{-4}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. Simulating non-wetting fluid invasion in volumetric images of porous materials is of broad interest in applications as diverse as electrochemical devices and CO2 sequestration. Among available methods, image-based algorithms offer much lower computational cost compared to direct numerical simulations. Recent work has extended image-based method to incorporate more physics such as gravity and volume-controlled invasion. The present work combines these two developments to develop an image-based invasion percolation algorithm that incorporates the effect of gravity. Additionally, the presented algorithm was developed using a priority queue algorithm to drastically reduce the computational cost of the simulation. The priority queue-based method was validated against previous image-based methods both with and without the effect of gravity, showing identical results. It was also shown that the new method provides a speedup of 20X over the previous image-based methods. Finally, comparison with experimental results at three Bond numbers showed that the model can predict the real invasion process with a high accuracy with and without gravitational effects.

Toxic sentiment analysis on Twitter (X) often focuses on specific topics and events such as politics and elections. Datasets of toxic users in such research are typically gathered through lexicon-based techniques, providing only a cross-sectional view. his approach has a tight confine for studying toxic user behavior and effective platform moderation. To identify users consistently spreading toxicity, a longitudinal analysis of their tweets is essential. However, such datasets currently do not exist.
This study addresses this gap by collecting a longitudinal dataset from 143K Twitter users, covering the period from 2007 to 2021, amounting to a total of 293 million tweets. Using topic modeling, we extract all topics discussed by each user and categorize users into eight groups based on the predominant topic in their timelines. We then analyze the sentiments of each group using 16 toxic scores. Our research demonstrates that examining users longitudinally reveals a distinct perspective on their comprehensive personality traits and their overall impact on the platform. Our comprehensive dataset is accessible to researchers for additional analysis.

We measure the absolute branching fractions of semileptonic $D^+_s$ decays via the $e^+e^-\to D_s^{*+}D_s^{*-}$ process using $e^+e^-$ collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $10.64~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ collected by the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.237 and 4.699 GeV. The branching fractions are ${\mathcal B}(D_s^+\to ηe^+ν_e)=(2.35\pm0.11_{\rm stat}\pm 0.10_{\rm syst})\%,$ ${\mathcal
B}(D_s^+\to η^\prime e^+ν_e)=(0.82\pm0.09_{\rm stat}\pm 0.04_{\rm syst})\%,$ ${\mathcal B}(D_s^+\to φe^+ν_e)=(2.21\pm0.16_{\rm stat}\pm 0.11_{\rm syst})\%,$ ${\mathcal B}(D_s^+\to f_0(980) e^+ν_e,f_0(980)\toπ^+π^-)=(0.15\pm0.02_{\rm stat}\pm 0.01_{\rm syst})\%,$ ${\mathcal
B}(D_s^+\to K^0 e^+ν_e)=(0.24\pm0.04_{\rm stat}\pm 0.01_{\rm syst})\%,$ and ${\mathcal B}(D_s^+\to K^{*0} e^+ν_e)=(0.19\pm0.03_{\rm stat}\pm 0.01_{\rm syst})\%.$ These results are consistent with those measured via the $e^+e^-\to D_s^{*\pm}D_s^{\mp}$ process by BESIII and CLEO. The hadronic transition form factors $D^+_s\to ηe^+ν_e$, $D^+_s\to η^\prime e^+ν_e$, and $D^+_s\to K^0 e^+ν_e$ at four-momentum transfer squared $q^2$ = 0 are determined to be $f^η_+(0) = 0.482 \pm 0.011_{\rm stat} \pm 0.009_{\rm syst}\pm0.004_{\rm input},$ $f^{η^{\prime}}_+(0) = 0.562 \pm 0.031_{\rm stat} \pm 0.014_{\rm
syst}\pm0.003_{\rm input},$ and $f^{K^0}_+(0) = 0.624 \pm 0.052_{\rm
stat} \pm 0.013_{\rm syst}\pm0.002_{\rm input}.$

Automatic report generation has arisen as a significant research area in computer-aided diagnosis, aiming to alleviate the burden on clinicians by generating reports automatically based on medical images. In this work, we propose a novel framework for automatic ultrasound report generation, leveraging a combination of unsupervised and supervised learning methods to aid the report generation process. Our framework incorporates unsupervised learning methods to extract potential knowledge from ultrasound text reports, serving as the prior information to guide the model in aligning visual and textual features, thereby addressing the challenge of feature discrepancy. Additionally, we design a global semantic comparison mechanism to enhance the performance of generating more comprehensive and accurate medical reports. To enable the implementation of ultrasound report generation, we constructed three large-scale ultrasound image-text datasets from different organs for training and validation purposes. Extensive evaluations with other state-of-the-art approaches exhibit its superior performance across all three datasets. Code and dataset are valuable at this link.

Representation learning approaches for robotic manipulation have boomed in recent years. Due to the scarcity of in-domain robot data, prevailing methodologies tend to leverage large-scale human video datasets to extract generalizable features for visuomotor policy learning. Despite the progress achieved, prior endeavors disregard the interactive dynamics that capture behavior patterns and physical interaction during the manipulation process, resulting in an inadequate understanding of the relationship between objects and the environment. To this end, we propose a general pre-training pipeline that learns Manipulation by Predicting the Interaction (MPI) and enhances the visual representation.Given a pair of keyframes representing the initial and final states, along with language instructions, our algorithm predicts the transition frame and detects the interaction object, respectively. These two learning objectives achieve superior comprehension towards "how-to-interact" and "where-to-interact". We conduct a comprehensive evaluation of several challenging robotic tasks. The experimental results demonstrate that MPI exhibits remarkable improvement by 10% to 64% compared with previous state-of-the-art in real-world robot platforms as well as simulation environments. Code and checkpoints are publicly shared at https://github.com/OpenDriveLab/MPI.

Severe data imbalance naturally exists among web-scale vision-language datasets. Despite this, we find CLIP pre-trained thereupon exhibits notable robustness to the data imbalance compared to supervised learning, and demonstrates significant effectiveness in learning generalizable representations. With an aim to investigate the reasons behind this finding, we conduct controlled experiments to study various underlying factors, and reveal that CLIP's pretext task forms a dynamic classification problem wherein only a subset of classes is present in training. This isolates the bias from dominant classes and implicitly balances the learning signal. Furthermore, the robustness and discriminability of CLIP improve with more descriptive language supervision, larger data scale, and broader open-world concepts, which are inaccessible to supervised learning. Our study not only uncovers the mechanisms behind CLIP's generalizability beyond data imbalance but also provides transferable insights for the research community. The findings are validated in both supervised and self-supervised learning, enabling models trained on imbalanced data to achieve CLIP-level performance on diverse recognition tasks.
