The Ki-67 proliferation index is an essential biomarker that helps pathologists to diagnose and select appropriate treatments. However, automatic evaluation of Ki-67 is difficult due to nuclei overlapping and complex variations in their properties. This paper proposes an integrated pipeline for accurate automatic counting of Ki-67, where the impact of nuclei separation techniques is highlighted. First, semantic segmentation is performed by combining the Squeez and Excitation Resnet and Unet algorithms to extract nuclei from the background. The extracted nuclei are then divided into overlapped and non-overlapped regions based on eight geometric and statistical features. A marker-based Watershed algorithm is subsequently proposed and applied only to the overlapped regions to separate nuclei. Finally, deep features are extracted from each nucleus patch using Resnet18 and classified into positive or negative by a random forest classifier. The proposed pipeline's performance is validated on a dataset from the Department of Pathology at Hôpital Nord Franche-Comté hospital.

Breast cancer is a disease that threatens many women's life, thus, early and accurate detection plays a key role in reducing the mortality rate. Mammography stands as the reference technique for breast cancer screening; nevertheless, many countries still lack access to mammograms due to economic, social, and cultural issues. Last advances in computational tools, infrared cameras, and devices for bio-impedance quantification allowed the development of parallel techniques like thermography, infrared imaging, and electrical impedance tomography, these being faster, reliable and cheaper. In the last decades, these have been considered as complement procedures for breast cancer diagnosis, where many studies concluded that false positive and false negative rates are greatly reduced. This work aims to review the last breakthroughs about the three above-mentioned techniques describing the benefits of mixing several computational skills to obtain a better global performance. In addition, we provide a comparison between several machine learning techniques applied to breast cancer diagnosis going from logistic regression, decision trees, and random forest to artificial, deep, and convolutional neural networks. Finally, it is mentioned several recommendations for 3D breast simulations, pre-processing techniques, biomedical devices in the research field, prediction of tumor location and size.

Spitzoid lesions broadly categorized into Spitz Nevus (SN), Atypical Spitz Tumors (AST), and Spitz Melanomas (SM). The accurate diagnosis of these lesions is one of the most challenges for dermapathologists; this is due to the high similarities between them. Data mining techniques are successfully applied to situations like these where complexity exists. This study aims to develop an artificial intelligence model to support the diagnosis of Spitzoid lesions. A private spitzoid lesions dataset have been used to evaluate the system proposed in this study. The proposed system has three stages. In the first stage, SMOTE method applied to solve the imbalance data problem, in the second stage, in order to eliminate irrelevant features; genetic algorithm is used to select significant features. This later reduces the computational complexity and speed up the data mining process. In the third stage, Random forest classifier is employed to make a decision for two different categories of lesions (Spitz nevus or Atypical Spitz Tumors). The performance of our proposed scheme is evaluated using accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, G-mean, F- measure, ROC and AUC. Results obtained with our SMOTE-GA-RF model with GA-based 16 features show a great performance with accuracy 0.97, F-measure 0.98, AUC 0.98, and G-mean 0.97.Results obtained in this study have potential to open new opportunities in diagnosis of spitzoid lesions.

Micro Abstract: A recent study from GLOBOCAN disclosed that during 2018 two million women worldwide had been diagnosed from breast cancer. This study presents a computer-aided diagnosis system based on convolutional neural networks as an alternative diagnosis methodology for breast cancer diagnosis with thermal images. Experimental results showed that lower false-positives and false-negatives classification rates are obtained when data pre-processing and data augmentation techniques are implemented in these thermal images. Background: There are many types of breast cancer screening techniques such as, mammography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound and blood sample tests, which require either, expensive devices or personal qualified. Currently, some countries still lack access to these main screening techniques due to economic, social or cultural issues. The objective of this study is to demonstrate that computer-aided diagnosis(CAD) systems based on convolutional neural networks (CNN) are faster, reliable and robust than other techniques. Methods: We performed a study of the influence of data pre-processing, data augmentation and database size versus a proposed set of CNN models. Furthermore, we developed a CNN hyper-parameters fine-tuning optimization algorithm using a tree parzen estimator. Results: Among the 57 patients database, our CNN models obtained a higher accuracy (92\%) and F1-score (92\%) that outperforms several state-of-the-art architectures such as ResNet50, SeResNet50 and Inception. Also, we demonstrated that a CNN model that implements data-augmentation techniques reach identical performance metrics in comparison with a CNN that uses a database up to 50\% bigger. Conclusion: This study highlights the benefits of data augmentation and CNNs in thermal breast images. Also, it measures the influence of the database size in the performance of CNNs.

This RUL is used to planned the maintenance operation to avoid the failure, the stop time and optimize the cost of the maintenance and failure. However, with the development of the industry the assets are nowadays distributed this is why the PHM needs to be developed using the new IT. Maintenance is an important activity in industry. It is performed either to revive a machine/component or to prevent it from breaking down. Different strategies have evolved through time, bringing maintenance to its current state: condition-based and predictive maintenances. This evolution was due to the increasing demand of reliability in industry. The key process of condition-based and predictive maintenances is prognostics and health management, and it is a tool to predict the remaining useful life of engineering assets. Nowadays, plants are required to avoid shutdowns while offering safety and reliability. Nevertheless, planning a maintenance activity requires accurate information about the system/component health state. Such information is usually gathered by means of independent sensor nodes. In this study, we consider the case where the nodes are interconnected and form a wireless sensor network. As far as we know, no research work has considered such a case of study for prognostics. Regarding the importance of data accuracy, a good prognostics requires reliable sources of information. This is why, in this paper, we will first discuss the dependability of wireless sensor networks, and then present a state of the art in prognostic and health management activities.

In this paper, random forests are proposed for operating devices diagnostics in the presence of a variable number of features. In various contexts, like large or difficult-to-access monitored areas, wired sensor networks providing features to achieve diagnostics are either very costly to use or totally impossible to spread out. Using a wireless sensor network can solve this problem, but this latter is more subjected to flaws. Furthermore, the networks' topology often changes, leading to a variability in quality of coverage in the targeted area. Diagnostics at the sink level must take into consideration that both the number and the quality of the provided features are not constant, and that some politics like scheduling or data aggregation may be developed across the network. The aim of this article is ($1$) to show that random forests are relevant in this context, due to their flexibility and robustness, and ($2$) to provide first examples of use of this method for diagnostics based on data provided by a wireless sensor network.

In condition-based maintenance, real-time observations are crucial for on-line health assessment. When the monitoring system is a wireless sensor network, data loss becomes highly probable and this affects the quality of the remaining useful life prediction. In this paper, we present a fully distributed algorithm that ensures fault tolerance and recovers data loss in wireless sensor networks. We first theoretically analyze the algorithm and give correctness proofs, then provide simulation results and show that the algorithm is (i) able to ensure data recovery with a low failure rate and (ii) preserves the overall energy for dense networks.
