𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗔𝗟𝗦 For more than 50 years, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has brought together millions of people around the world every 5 June to focus on environmental action. As a global leader in environmental testing, ALS is passionate about enabling our clients to create a more sustainable world, and we are proud to celebrate World Environment Day. UNEP’s theme for World Environment Day 2024 is a focus on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience. In line with this theme, ALS is highlighting our efforts to address growing global concern about per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), commonly known as ‘forever chemicals’, used in the manufacture of stain-resistant, water-resistant and non-stick consumer goods. PFAS have been found to accumulate in food, water, soil, the air and even our bodies. They do not break down in the environment, raising concern about potential negative health impacts. For these reasons, there have been increasing efforts around the world to identify, understand, and eliminate PFAS. As early pioneers of PFAS testing, ALS is committed to advancing continuous innovation in PFAS testing techniques.
