Our team’s concept for The Reimagining Where We Live: Design Ideas Competition, run by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care, was highly commended by the jury. We collaborated with Jacqueline Bartholomeusz, David Sutherland, and Lorraine Calder to design a seniors living environment where private and socialisation spaces are woven together with a verdant landscape. The jury commended the significant areas of landscape and vegetation as being of real value to residents and staff, providing a sensory natural environment of pleasure and beauty within the urban context. 27 May to 3 June is National Reconciliation Week in Australia. Reconciliation Australia says “Now more than ever, we need to tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation,” and encourages supporters “to actively reinforce the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across this continent.” Today, and every day, we acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the places we work and pay our respects to Elders past and present. We honour the deep connection First Peoples have to our lands, waters, and sky, and we value their ongoing contribution to caring for Country. We've compiled a list on our website of events in Sydney, Canberra, and Melbourne, where you can learn more about the world's oldest living culture: https://lnkd.in/giuiR24Q #NRW2024 #NowMoreThanEver

It’s great to learn that the City of Melbourne unanimously passed Planning Scheme Amendment C376: Sustainable Building Design to ensure future development achieves best practice in Environmentally Sustainable Design including increased energy efficiency and greening of buildings. The amendment introduces a 40% green cover target, with a layered approach that incorporates understorey and canopy planting comprising native vegetation species, supporting the creation of complex and biodiverse ecosystems. OCULUS worked with Arup, HillPDA Consulting, and Junglefy, together with City of Melbourne’s green infrastructure and planning specialists, to provide the strategic justification for introducing these sustainability regulations into Melbourne’s planning scheme.
