    Addressing the Controversial Topic of Replacement Guarantees in Recruitment One of the most frequently raised questions in recruitment is about replacement guarantees. Agencies working on a contingent basis often include a replacement guarantee, typically ranging from 30 days to 6 months. This means if a placed candidate doesn’t work out within the guarantee period, the agency will replace the hire free of charge. Businesses often ask for a guarantee that matches their probation period, usually around 6 months. However, I, along with other agents who conduct thorough recruitment processes, believe that 3 months is a sufficient period to determine if a hire is a good fit for the long term. Beyond that, businesses need to question why it didn’t work out. Replacement guarantees are negotiated on a case-by-case basis and can be flexible within reasonable circumstances. If an agency can’t find a replacement or if the business replaces internally, agencies often have an expiry period, say 12 months, during which they might offer a replacement or a credit for the specific role. Businesses need to remember that agencies only get paid upon placement, and much of the work done may never result in payment. If a replacement is needed, the agency must go through the entire process again, which includes searching, screening, meeting, negotiating, hiring, and checking in. Doing due diligence, knowing your candidates and clients, is crucial to making matches that last. At TSP, replacements have always been below 2% of our overall hires, something we’re proud of. But replacements are still a significant concern for our clients during the negotiation period. So, we thought, how can we eliminate replacements?
