🍾 That's a wrap for the 2024 edition of the 25 Hours Fun Cup! For 25 hours, 107 cars manufactured by WRT raced around the toboggan of the Ardennes. It was a fun yet competitive weekend for over 300 drivers, with our "WRT Clinic" providing crucial support to many teams to help them reach the finish line. Our WRT Manufacturing team assisted teams on pieces such as engines, gearboxes and electrical harnesses. One day and one hour later, we were delighted to see two former WRT drivers on the podium: the winner, Mathieu Detry, in Car #888 alongside Matts Breckpot, Matteo Raspatelli, Jérémy Peclers, and Stéphane Perrin, as well as Fred Bouvy, who finished third overall in Car #480 with Guillaume Mondron, Gilles Verleyen, and Sébastien Kluyskens. With hundreds of cars assembled since the inception of the Fun Cup, WRT proudly stands as Belgium's ‘biggest car manufacturer.’ In 2012, we became the exclusive manufacturer of the new generation Fun Cup car, the Evo 3. Just three weeks ago, 115 of these incredible cars raced on the legendary 13-km Le Mans track. The Circuit de la Sarthe hosted a thrilling four-hour race, and for this special event, Team WRT fielded four Fun Cup cars featuring some familiar names. Notably, our former WRT driver, Enzo Ide, who raced car #546, and our Fanatec GT driver, Calan Williams, in #527. It is always nice to gather with your colleagues from all departments and to relax together at night! 🙌 But wait, there’s more! This weekend, over 100 Fun Cup cars will be racing again, this time at the iconic Spa and for 25 hours. 🛠 Our WRT crew will be on-site to support the different teams with their renowned 'Clinic' where teams can count on the expertise of the WRT Manufacturing team to provide all the technical assistance needed to cross that finish line. PODIUM FINISH AT THE CENTENARY OF THE 24 HOURS OF SPA 🍾 The classic race in the Ardennes kept faithful to its legend, with all the epic ingredients of a 24 Hours of Spa, from all types of weather to incidents and an unprecedented finale. An incredible charge from P23 to P3 sees the Belgian squad, with Dries Vanthoor, Sheldon van der Linde and Charles Weerts at the wheel, take to the podium at the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa! Solid stints and epic strategic calls were key to surviving the ever-changing conditions throughout the 24-hour battle. This once again highlights the exceptional teamwork of Team WRT. €12,500 RAISED FOR FONDATION ARTHRITIS 💗 Last Saturday, Anna, Joe, and Timo, who bravely battle severe arthritis, stole our hearts by showing us what real courage looks like. We were honored to welcome them as our VIPs during the 24H of Le Mans. Accompanied by Lionel Comole, CEO of Fondation Arthritis, they enjoyed a day full of inspiring experiences, including a tour of Team WRT’s facilities led by our WEC reserve driver Charles Weerts, a VIP lunch, a stroll through the paddock, a stylish pair of shoes from our partner Skechers and witnessing the start of the race. Generous donations from Team WRT and the Weerts Group raised €12,500 for Fondation Arthritis, supporting Ulrich Meinzer’s research in partnership with the Pasteur Institute. These funds will advance studies on juvenile idiopathic arthritis, a chronic joint inflammation affecting children under 16. Team WRT’s commitment to social causes was recognized with the ‘Coup de Coeur’ award at the Sustainability Award by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, proudly accepted by our co-CEO Kathleen Schurmans. The motto ‘United by Tenacity’ truly encapsulated this weekend. Despite the challenges faced both by these inspiring young individuals and our team during this demanding event, team spirit, mutual assistance, and unwavering support remained our top priorities. LE MANS 24 HOURS 2024, A TALE OF TWO STORIES 🏁 Thanks to perfect strategy and a faultless race, the #31 crew of Augusto Farfus, Darren Leung and Sean Gelael climbed from P15, to P2, crossing the line only 35 seconds behind the leader. After 24 hours of hard racing, this is a superb ending to a tough week for the crew. This result has allowed the team to significantly close the gap at the top of the FlA WEC standings. Of course, car #31’s hard fought podium has been placed in the Belgian squad’s history books, but we cannot forget the efforts put in from the drivers and crews of our other Le Mans entries also. Following an incident early on in the race and a lengthy stop in the box for repairs, the #20 Art Car of René Rast, Robin Frijns and Sheldon van der Linde took the flag, with artist Julie Mehretu joining the team in the garage to witness this momentous occasion. After strong running from the #15 trio of Dries Vanthoor, Marco Wittmann and Raffaele Marciello, being taken out of the race was a huge disappointment. We are thankful for the strength of the BMW M Hybrid V8, which meant Dries was able to extract himself from the car and walk away from the incident. There was also heartbreak in the #46 camp. Whilst racing in incredibly tricky conditions, contact with the barrier ended the Le Mans story for Ahmad Al Harthy, Maxime Martin and Valentino Rossi. No fault lies with Ahmad, our incredible Bronze raced hard and fair, and we know that he will continue to show his strengths throughout the rest of the season. We want to thank every single person, a lot of who aren’t pictured here, for working relentlessly, for getting four cars to Le Mans, for winning the Pit Stop Challenge and a Sustainability Award for their project with Fondation Arthritis, for taking P1 in the qualifying session and then ending a tough event up on the podium. Without forgetting our great catering and hospitality team for giving us the power to make it until the end. We couldn’t do it without you all. UNITED BY TENACITY: TEAM WRT X FONDATION ARTHRITIS 🤝 Team WRT proudly partners with Fondation Arthritis for the 24 Hours of Le Mans to raise funds for research on Rheumatism and Musculoskeletal Diseases (RMDs). Funds will be raised based on the number of participants in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, totaling 62 cars, for the Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) research. The team will welcome Lionel, race car driver and Fondation Arthritis General Director, and three youngsters suffering from Arthritis on race day, offering them an inspiring experience with garage tours and driver meetings. Additionally, one of our Fun Cup cars will feature the Fondation Arthritis logo to raise awareness. By supporting Fondation Arthritis, Team WRT emphasises the importance of resilience, drawing parallels between motorsport challenges and living with RMDs.
