We Build Better Together
About us
Chandos is one of North America’s most collaborative and innovative commercial builders. We are 100% employee owned and we are proud to be the first and largest B Corp Certified commercial builder in North America, meaning we put our values at the centre of everything we do. We continuously innovate by championing collaborative construction - leading to more efficiency, cost savings, and a much better working experience for everyone. We are a national technical builder. But most of all we build community. And we pride ourselves on listening to and collaborating with the communities we are building for, going above and beyond what we commit. We believe in giving everyone a fair shot – which is why we champion the idea of inclusive hiring – a practice that nurtures diverse talent. We practice social procurement, investing at least 5% of our addressable spend, whether its on construction materials or the coffee for our sites, with businesses that are good for people and the planet. Over 80% of our work is delivered using collaborative delivery models. In addition to our strength in Construction Management, we are the Canadian leader in Integrated Project Delivery (IPD). Our approach is born out of our simple desire to help others. Our process goes beyond design and construction; it brings value to the communities we serve. We are Chandos. We Build Better Together.

In Ottawa, our Special Services Group (SSG) built the first ever boat house for the Petrie Island Canoe Club. The team used pre-cast concrete to build the structure, and now that the project is complete, it will serve paddlers of all skill levels, from toddlers to Olympians. The team applied Lean construction techniques in preparation for the foundation concrete pour. Due to the close proximity to the Ottawa River, the site needed to be de-watered constantly. Using retrofitted barrels, the team collected the water in a way that saved time and money and was able to deliver the project in under four months. In 2019, the City of Cold Lake, Alberta initiated the Lakeshore Drive infrastructure improvement plan that would add a sheet pile wall along Kinosoo Beach. Our team is installing approximately 2,600 ft. of sheet pile retaining wall along the bank to protect the road and nearby homes from shoreline erosion. The sea wall was necessary for the town to make further critical upgrades to the road, underground pipes, and drainage systems. We require access to an existing road originally built directly on the bank of Cold Lake. We are also implementing three storm services that will penetrate through the sheet pile wall to discharge storm surge into the river. The dry side of the sheet pile wall will be backfilled back to grade. #CivilConstruction #AlbertaConstruction

Our team in Airdrie, Alberta, built a 43 ft. long bridge across a man-made canal that accommodates both pedestrians and vehicles. Because the bridge is adjacent to wetlands, our civil team implemented berms and barriers on either side of the canal to physically separate the construction area from natural habitats. Isolation measures were applied to prevent accidental encroachment or disturbances, and during construction, our team regularly inspected the site to address potential breaches or vulnerabilities. The Rights of Passage program, run by Covenant House Vancouver provides vulnerable youth with housing and support as they transition into independent living. Our special services group (SSG) team partnered with the organization to renovate and transform the space, increasing the program capacity from 25 to 44, adding a teaching kitchen for residents to learn life skills, a new gym, and lounge spaces. The exterior of the building also received a fresh face with a pressure wash, painting the window frames, balcony guard rails & street canopy, updated illuminated signage, repointed brick, and refurbishing the heritage door & windows trims. The Fraser Health Authority serves over two million people, from Burnaby to White Rock to Hope, BC. In Abbotsford, we partnered with the organization to create a new space for crucial mental health treatment programs outside of the traditional hospital space. Our team transformed a former strip mall into a healthcare office to provide life-saving services. We completed the tenant improvement through construction management, using collaborative construction techniques early in the project to solidify electrical and mechanical routing. Out upgrades to the space included enhanced electrical systems, a new HVAC system, a security system, and new flooring, walls, ceilings, and millwork. Do you have a project? June is National Indigenous History Month and today, June 21, is National Indigenous Peoples Day. This time of year, is set for us to honour and celebrate Indigenous heritage, history, cultures, and people. We built our strategy on the foundation of the Truth and Reconciliation Report, specifically Call to Action 92. The action calls for Canadian businesses to commit to consultation and informed consent of Indigenous peoples, providing equal job opportunities, training, education, and building an anti-racism workplace culture. We are committed to working with Nations across Canada to build critical infrastructure, educational facilities, and community spaces. While we are committed to investing in the communities we build in, helping to create wealth and capacity within Nations across Canada, we understand there is still much work to do to meet the calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Report. June 21 is National Indigenous People’s Day, but every day is an opportunity for people and businesses to continue working towards reconciliation. In the heart of downtown Edmonton, Alberta, our project team is working to give a makeover to the Rice Howard Place towers. The 40 year old, fully occupied building will receive a multi-phased renovation of the interior main floor, exterior podium facade, and amenity spaces. All new finishes will be installed with contemporary design elements to bring a modern aesthetic to the complex. Our team will redevelop the common areas and fit out a new tenant lounge. Construction includes the base building, repurposing a conference centre, upgrading the fitness facilities and lounge, adding a podcast room, golf sim, and new skybridge linking the pedestrian walkway to the facility. Last month, the team installed a 20 ft. Beam in the atrium, weighing 5700 lbs. Have a project? In the Town of Drayton Valley, Alberta, our teams collaborated with Group2 Architecture Interior Design Ltd., Arrow Engineering Inc. a division of Englobe Corp., and the township to build a replacement pool using integrated project delivery. Using pull planning, the team realized that if they installed the solar panels earlier in the schedule, it would allow the project to sell power back to the grid during construction. The team found that using a 304.32 kW solar PV system on the roof could generate up to 257,888 kW per year, reducing the municipality’s carbon footprint. Using the solar PV system offset about 147 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually, which is the equivalent of removing 29 vehicles off the road! Want to see how we built it?
