Speak Up Room
-
Launched campaign responsible for the funding of a "Speak Up Room", funded by a $1000 SpeakUp grant from the Ministry of Education. The room was intended to be a student lounge/ co-working space where students could work and relax in a safe and secure environment, as well as receive support from supervising staff. The "Speak Up" board in the room also provided a medium for students to communicate concerns and issues they observed within the school system in a constructive manner.

Head researcher and organizer of a holistic research project, under the Students as Researchers Ontario Ministry of Education model. The research report built a case for the removal of plastic water bottles from vending machines in schools within the board, given the recent upgrade to water bottle filling stations at every school, and the resulting decline in sales. The argument also presented the ethical, economic and environmental risks of sponsoring and continuing the sale of plastic water bottles. Interviews were conducted with senior staff, survey and focus groups conducted among peers and a thorough analysis of financial data presented. Findings were presented to school board officials, and resulted in measurable actions taken to phase out the sale of plastic water bottles within schools.
