Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach hosted the annual Feeding the Soul of the City fundraiser April 25 at the Scottish Rite Ballroom. Thanks to generous corporate and individual sponsors, the guests who attended and the many individuals who gave donations before the event, over $142,000 was raised to support the agency’s day-to-day hunger relief, substance use and homeless prevention services.
Guests enjoyed a social hour with heavy hors d’oeuvres and visited interactive stations to learn how the agency’s four key programs – hunger relief, outreach, housing and substance use – move the community closer to defeating hunger and homelessness.
During the event program, a current resident in one of Matt Talbot’s transitional living houses and Matt Talbot’s Substance Use Program Coordinator Clarence Grendahl both shared their personal stories of hope, resilience and recovery from addiction.

“This event helps sustain our programs, allowing us to meet people’s most basic needs like food and hygiene, as well as walk alongside and assist those who need a second, third or fourth chance,“ said Alynn Sampson, executive director. “Substance use, addiction and mental health are complex battles, but we know there are pathways to recovery and are so grateful for the community’s support of our efforts.”
The mission of Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach is to relieve hunger, overcome homelessness, address addiction, and provide outreach and advocacy. Last year, Matt Talbot provided over 250,000 meals and 50,000 homeless prevention services such as housing, drug and alcohol evaluations, life skills classes, nutrition counseling and help with obtaining vital identification documents.
