Madonna will host its annual Dish and Bloom luncheon at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, at the Country Club of Lincoln. This year’s speaker is Merrily Jackson, a speaker, author and regular columnist for IN Kansas City Magazine, KC metro’s city and lifestyle magazine. With recent columns on how to “Prep Your Kitchen for Stress-Free Parties,” Jackson will lead a discussion on the art (and science) of presenting scrumptious-looking party food and provide expert tips for hosting and entertaining. May 10 – Big Putt Golf Tournament for Big Brothers Big Sisters
This four-person scramble event will take place Friday, May 10, at Woodland Hills Golf Course in Eagle, Nebraska, just east of Lincoln. The tournament aims to raise funds to support Big Brothers Big Sisters Lincoln through expanded opportunities for Little/Big mentoring matches and increased support for families served. The tournament will bring together golf enthusiasts, community leaders and businesses for a day of celebration and philanthropy. Proceeds from the event will directly benefit the community-based BBBS Lincoln mentoring program. May 19 — Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Celebration
The Asian Community and Cultural Center invites everyone to the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month Celebration from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, May 19, in the Sandhills Global Event Center’s Lincoln Room, 84th and Havelock Avenue. The event will include an exhibition of 10-12 cultures, traditional performances, an immigrant youth stories display, cultural activities, games, live music, world cuisine tasting, free health screenings and more. This year, the dragon dance will be performed to commemorate the Year of the Dragon. The event honors the contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to the U.S. Free admission. May 31 – Hop, SCIP, Jump and Run
School Community Intervention & Prevention’s annual “Hop, SCIP, Jump and Run,” sponsored by Complete Children’s Health and Family Health & Wellness Center, will take place Friday, May 31, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Antelope Park, located by the enclosed shelter. This fundraising event for SCIP will include family-friendly booths and activities sponsored by local nonprofits, prize drawings, food, a photo booth, face painting and a 1-mile Fun Run. Participation in the event and Fun Run is free; pre-registration for the Fun Run is required. June 9 – Wine & Howl for Lincoln Animal Ambassadors
Mark your calendars and bring your dog, a blanket or a lawn chair, and join Lincoln Animal Ambassadors for its 16th annual Wine & Howl fundraiser Sunday, June 9, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a day of dogs, food, wine and live music at Deer Springs Winery, 16255 Adams St. in east Lincoln. June 22 – Brews at the Zoo
Brews at the Zoo returns for another summer of live music and local craft beer at Lincoln Children’s Zoo, 1222 S. 27th St. Adults 21-plus can enjoy live music by local bands (starting with Lemon Fresh Day on June 22), visits from animal ambassadors and craft beer, cider and seltzer from local breweries. The event takes place from 6-11 p.m. and includes after-hours access to the zoo. Event proceeds benefit the Lincoln Children’s Zoo and help support education, conservation and the care of over 400 animals. Additional Brews at the Zoo events are planned for July 13, July 27, Aug. 17, Aug. 30 and Sept. 6. Tickets go on sale May 7 and include admission to the event, after-hours access to the zoo for the evening and three drinks of your choice.
