The Annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, a true showcase of American culture, saw more drama than usual this year with the absence of reigning champ Joey Chestnut. Tracing its roots back to July 4, 1916, the contest began at Nathan’s Famous hot dog stand in Coney Island, where four immigrants competed to prove their patriotism by devouring hot dogs. Over the years, this quirky competition has grown into a globally recognized event, blending athleticism, showmanship, and a touch of absurdity. However, this year's event took a twist as 16-time champion Joey Chestnut was banned due to a brand deal with plant-based meat company Impossible Foods. Stepping into the spotlight, 26-year-old Chicagoan Patrick Bertoletti claimed victory by devouring 58 hot dogs in just 10 minutes.
