Querida familia thank you for coming to the #HIPConference2024 and being part of this incredible movement!   We are humbled by the overwhelming support and especially grateful for the time and energy each of you committed to us this week. Every room was filled with deep and, above all, sincere conversations about the realities that racialized communities are currently experiencing in the social and philanthropic sectors.   This gathering is about reclaiming the wealth that has been historically taken from our communities. The philanthropic sector must have difficult conversations, hold ourselves accountable, and point out when we are falling into harmful narratives and practices of defeat in the face of white supremacy. Our communities are not asking for a favor, we are demanding what belongs to us, and we are not going to apologize for it.   We hope you return to your communities energized, empowered, and equipped to continue to unleash your power.   We'll share recordings and resources soon. In the meantime, stay engaged with HIP and our partners!

Yesterday was all worth it. It was full of truth telling that analyzed philanthropy’s landscape. Our community is not afraid to speak up and point out what must change in order for all of us to actually heal and thrive. If we learned something, it’s that we are not backing down, we are here and we are not going anywhere. And, we’ll keep singing and dancing while we are in this collective lucha. Thank you for an amazing first day. #HIPConference2024

The #HIPConference2024 in Chicago has finally started with the help of a sabrosa performance by the BomPleneras, an all-women group from Chicago that has uplifted and brought visibility to the power of women in Puerto Rican Bomba y Plena since 2010. HIP Board Member and President of the Healthy Communities Foundation, Maria del Socorro Pesqueira, and Alberto Morales of Chicago Latines in Philanthropy, then reminded us that Chicago has been a hub for Latine communities. As our presence in the city grows, so too has our on-the-ground civic engagement and continued influence in the growing philanthropic sector here, as seen through recent policy wins and the rise of Latine c-suite executives. Ryan Ripple, Director, of Economic Mobility and Opportunity, at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, gave a warm welcome just before Ana Marie Argilagos shared the stage with Dr. Robert Ross and Miguel Santana. A chat that called us to be bolder and unapologetic in our pursuit of justice. We hope you didn’t miss the sneak peek of our new strategic roadmap to mobilize diverse donors, transform philanthropic practices, and build power through impact investing and movement building. As we move through this powerful conference, we hope that all 700+ of you join our invitation to become ambassadors of Chicago’s brilliance and help us nurture the great work happening in this beautiful city. Keep posted for more of the #HIPConference2024!
