Kate Middleton’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, have made their first public appearance since their daughter’s cancer diagnosis.

On Wednesday, June 19, Carole, 69, and Michael, 74, attended day two of Royal Ascot at the Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire, England.

The two were photographed smiling as they arrived side-by-side at the horse racing event, with Carole wearing a blue floral Self-Portrait dress, a matching fascinator and earrings by Emily Mortimer Jewellery. Meanwhile, Michael sported a black and gray morning suit, a patterned tie and a black top hat.

Members of the royal family in attendance on day two of Royal Ascot included Kate’s husband, Prince William, Queen Camilla, Princess Eugenie and Zara and Mike Tindall. Camilla, 76, also attended day one of the event, arriving in a carriage with King Charles as part of the Royal Procession.

Carole and Michael’s appearance at the event comes days after the Princess of Wales, 42, made her first public appearance since her cancer diagnosis at Trooping the Colour on June 15.

The couple’s last public appearance came in December when they attended their daughter’s annual Royal Carols: Together at Christmas event at Westminster Abbey in London.

Just over three months later, on March 22, Princess Kate revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy.

The royal shared her health news in a personal video message two months after Kensington Palace announced on Jan. 17 that she had undergone a "planned abdominal surgery" the previous day.

Weeks before Princess Kate revealed her diagnosis, she was seen traveling in a car with her mom. In photos obtained by Backgrid, she sat in the front seat of a car driven by Carole. It was the first time the royal had been spotted since her surgery.

A source told PEOPLE soon after Kate’s surgery that Carole and Michael “will be there to lend support” to their daughter, along with the Prince of Wales, 41.

In April, William reportedly grabbed a drink at a local pub with Carole during a “low-key” outing, according to an April 10 report from Richard Eden of the Daily Mail.

"It was all very low-key with no great fanfare. He just walked in and through the pub. He appeared to be with Carole Middleton," Eden quoted a patron as saying.

The Middletons live a short car ride away from Kate and William’s home in Windsor. Their grandchildren — Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6 — often visit their home for sleepovers.

"Her parents are an enduring factor in the upbringing of their grandchildren," a palace insider said in April amid Kate’s treatment. "And they will be a reassuring presence when she goes back to Windsor to recuperate."
