Hoop skirt

I recently finished my new costume for this year's Dickens festival. My dress is sort of similar to this dress, modified from this pattern. I'll post some pictures soon. 1840's styles, though, aren't complete without some serious volume under the skirt. Crinoline (hoop skirt)- used as undergarment under a woman's dress to give it fullness and volume. With the introduction of such garment, the corset began to shorten and become tighter. Reason being, there was no need to hide the hips and as the crinoline slowly began to decrease in size, a smaller waist was favored.

Crinoline to crinolette to bustle

This is less of a tutorial and more of a guide to create your own cage petti for lolita fashion. It will aid you in making one exactly the size you want for yourself, but keep in mind, it will require a bit of math as all sewing does.
