The primary standard of the Mughals was known as the alam. Its main color is Mughal green. It displays a lion and sun facing the left side of the flag. The lion or “Babur” in Persian was in the honor of the founder of the Mughal Empire, Muhammad Babur. Both the lion and the sun represent some of the old Persian symbols that were reused by the Mughals in order to recognize the Persian culture.
