Alpinia zerumbet, commonly known as shell ginger, is a perennial species of ginger native to East Asia. They can grow up to 8 to 10 ft tall and bear colorful funnel-shaped flowers. The shell ginger plant requires full sun or part shade, which means 4 to 6 hours of sunlight a day. It may also be necessary to divide a shell ginger plant from time to time if the rhizomes start to crowd the container.
