Santa Maria del Popolo, eine der ältesten Pfarrkirchen Roms, steht über dem Grab Neros, der hier angeblich in einem Baum spukte. Um dem ein Ende zu machen, ließ Papst Paschalis II. 1099 den Baum fällen, die Asche in den Tiber, werfen und eine Marienkapelle errichten. Ein im Renaissancestil unter Sixtus IV im 15.
