Here is my process: I throw a cylinder and then bring in the top to make the knob and use a tool to make a wide groove where I want to lid to separate. Once the form is leather hard, I cut the top off and trim the base and lid to get them to fit together. And voila! You have a lidded container using only one piece of clay and no measuring!
