The Mother-Daughter statue was in remembrance of the charity and volunteer work by Patricia Austin, the wife of former mayor Ed Austin. It was unveiled Mother's Day weekend in May 2003 by her nine grandchildren. It is a symbol of all the children and families she touched throughout her life.
