The aftermath of the Irk Valley Junction rail crash of 15 August 1953. The crash occurred at 7.40am when an electric train on route to Manchester from Bury collided with a steam train heading to Bacup. The crash claimed the lives of the driver of the electric train and nine of his passengers.
