    Pros

    • Cooling

    • Soft

    • Washes easily

    Cons

    • Can cool too much

Not all comforters are created equal. Beyond your opinions about aesthetics and fabric feel, have you ever considered temperature? Other than switching to flannel sheets in the winter, I never considered how my sheets and comforters retained or expelled heat. However, as hot sleepers will attest, sleeping cool is a big deal.

The Rest Evercool Cooling Comforter (available at Rest) is designed to help regulate heat to maintain cool temperatures throughout the night—but does it really work? We’ve tested several cooling blankets, pillows, and comforters that don’t quite live up to the hype, but throughout our testing, we found that this Rest comforter is just as cooling as it claims. Here’s what you need to know.

What is the Evercool Cooling Comforter?

The Evercool Cooling Comforter is designed to keep you cool instead of warm.

Unlike traditional comforters, which keep you warm and cozy, the Rest Evercool Cooling Comforter is made with cooling fibers. The material is made with technology and fibers that help cool you. It’s a great option for people who get hot at night, live in warm climates, or like a light layer on their bed that doesn’t weigh them down.

The comforter’s tech specs are quite impressive. It has moisture-wicking qualities, is quick-drying, has a fine yarn construction that feels similar to silk, and its specially tested “Evercool fabric rapidly absorbs and disperses heat” 10 times faster than cotton. Rest describes the comforter as nontoxic, hypoallergenic, and pet-friendly.

The comforter is reversible and comes in three colors with different shades of each: Aqua Cool, Cool Gray, and Snow Ivory. It’s machine washable, which means this comforter is just as simple to clean as a Rest Duvet.

What we like

The Rest Comforter feels soft right out of the box.

As a lover of organic cotton and linen bedding I’m accustomed to bedding that feels worn in and gets softer over time. So, I was shocked at how soft the Rest Comforter was immediately after unpacking it from its box. The fabric is silky smooth and cool to the touch. Touching the fabric feels like a cool breeze at all times, even once you’re wrapped up in it like a sleepy burrito.

I love how lightweight the comforter is; it’s breathable below or on top of other blankets without feeling heavy or hot. My boyfriend gets hot while he sleeps, but this comforter helped him sleep better and stay cool (fewer night sweats for the win!). I like to be warmer at night but expect to use the Evercool Comforter more during the summer. Aesthetically, I like the two shades of gray that the comforter has, and being able to wash it easily at home is a huge plus.

What we don’t like

Even your cats will love the Evercool.

Aside from personal preference and the price, I didn’t find many drawbacks about the Rest comforter. I don’t like to be cold when I sleep, so I prefer several layers of sheets and blankets to stay toasty. On frigid nights, the Evercool Cooling Comforter was too chilly for me; it didn’t keep me warm enough. It was much better with a blanket between the soothing fabric and my skin though. However, it’s rated 4.9 out of 5 by hot sleepers, so if that’s you, rest assured you’ll sleep soundly.

While it’s not a budget brand, The Rest Comforter is competitively priced with popular bedding brands like Ettitude and Parachute. You can often find great deals on Rest comforters around the holidays.

One small detail worth noting is that the fabric is very thin, so when my cats walked across the bed, they left little footprints like they would in the snow. These smoothed out if I wiped my hand across the comforter, but if you have pets or kids that will crawl across the bed, expect some visible textures after you make your bed.

Should you buy the Rest Evercool Cooling Comforter?

Yes, if you sleep hot

The Rest Comforter is perfect for those who sleep hot.

Though I sometimes found the comforter too cool, I love having it on my bed. It’s smooth to the touch and is the perfect top layer during the transitional seasons. I expect to use it often in the summer because I always need at least one layer of bedding. If the price is a sticking point for you, note that the comforter is reversible, so you’ll have two shades to select from, and you can launder it right at home instead of having to pay to dry clean or launder it once you purchase.
