Mountains are everywhere both literally and figuratively. The process of training to climb a mountain teaches us more than the climb itself. Through physical hardship we learn to endure the actual hardship that life throws at us. Climbing a mountain is easy compared to the loss of a loved one, a cancer diagnosis, or a car crash, etc. What is your mountain? Share your #whatsyourmtn story with us and help inspire others to overcome any mountains that might be in their way.
We will be picking one story from submissions to come to The Lab for TOUGHFEST 2024 all expenses paid. Share your #whatsyourmtn story with your network and help bring out the best in everyone around you!
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. REFLECT
What "mountain" have you
overcome? What "mountain" are you climbing right now and why? (This could be getting ready for a hunt, race, hard event, improving
your health so you can be more active for your kids when you're
older, overcoming something in
your life.)
If you do MTNTOUGH how has it helped you along the way? Or how has physical training helped you overcome your mountain?
How would you inspire/encourage other people to tap into their full potential, change their lives for the better, or achieve something great?
2. FILM
We want you to take a video of yourself talking about your mountain. Feel free to add in videos of you working out, or the overcoming of "your mountain".
This is a real story coming from you because you know what it takes to tackle the mountain and overcome hardship in life.
Try and shoot your content after a killer workout. You are not limited on the number of #whatsyourmtn stories that you want to share. Make sure to start the video with 'This is my mountain and end with asking those watching "what's your mountain"?
3. SHARE

MTNTOUGH Athletic Director Sarah Maschino: Gym ON-RAMP, NEW Entry Level Full Gym Program
Eliminate the intimidation factor when it comes to starting MTNTOUGH and working out in a fitness facility. GYM ON-RAMP incorporates functional, dynamic movements on basic gym equipment. So grab your keys and hit the road – it’s time to level up and go.
Why We Built It
Don’t just pay for your gym membership: Use it. GYM ON-RAMP was built to eliminate the intimidation of navigating the ins and outs of fitness equipment in a public setting. This self-guided program cuts through the confusion of using basic fitness equipment found in most gyms through a series of functional, dynamic movements that deliver a full body workout.
The goal? To provide you with a gameplan before you even enter the fitness facility. In this three-day, two-week program, each movement will be demonstrated by trainer Sarah Maschino in short explainer videos along with an outline of the day’s workout. Sarah will offer tips on technique and explain ways to ramp up or ramp down, depending on your fitness level and stamina. At the end of this two-week session, you should feel comfortable in a gym setting and understand how to use basic equipment with confidence.
To complete GYM ON-RAMP, you will need access to a gym – either at home or in a fitness facility – for movements that uses basic equipment like barbells, dumbbells, a bench, kettlebells, resistance bands, TRX straps and stability balls. Each workout is 30 to 40 minutes long and includes a warmup, a series of mobility and muscle activation compound movements and a cool down.
Whether you want to kickstart your fitness journey or switch up a lifting routine to one that’s full-body, GYM ON-RAMP will get you off the couch and out the door, ready to hit the gym and transform your life.
You got this. Download the MTNTOUGH app from your device's app store and get started.

WHY WE BUILT IT
Establish your foundation first. Calibrating the proper alignment, posture and positioning is what separates potential injury from peak performance. MTNTOUGH’s FORM LAB provides a way for even the most seasoned backcountry or tactical athlete to hone and improve their techniques to crush it for the long haul.
Being mountain ready is about form as well as function. And correct form is the key to preventing injuries, optimizing performance and conserving energy. No one wants to be at a disadvantage when faced with a steep climb or heavy pack-out, which is why MTNTOUGH partnered with retired U.S. Army Major and world-champion powerlifter Donny Bigham to bring you a way to obtain a baseline assessment and biomechanical analysis of 12 of the most common exercises.
More weight and more reps could only hurt you if done improperly. Use FORM LAB to fix your weaknesses now so you can continually improve your performance and prevent new injuries from occurring. In these fully-coached videos, Major Bigham provides detailed prescriptions on how to correct deficiencies in movements like deadlifts, bench presses, lunges, pull-ups, kettlebell snatches, squats, sprinting, running, and moving under axial load.
When was the last time you analyzed your movement patterns?
That’s not a rhetorical question. Do it today.
WHAT AND HOW

Establish your fitness foundation by completing a baseline assessment of 12 common exercises like deadlifts, bench presses, squats, pull-ups, kettlebell snatches, running, and moving while running a heavy pack.
Prevent injury and conserve energy
Understanding proper form can make or break a backcountry athlete at the toughest times. Even the most seasoned athlete can improve their form for the long haul.

MEET YOUR COACH:
Retired Major Donny Bigham has over 27 years of service in the Marine Corps and the U.S. Army with 48 months of combat deployments to Bosnia, Afghanistan, Kuwait and Yemen. Major Bigham is known as the first ever strength and conditioning coach for the U.S. Army (Conventional Forces) and was instrumental in being part of the team that changed the U.S. Army Physical Fitness test after almost 40 years. He co-authored the Occupational Performance Assessment Test for initial screening of future soldiers and designed the Tactical Athlete Performance Center (TAP-C) at Fort Jackson and Fort Benning, emphasizing true strength, mobility, and speed to increase lethality and survivability.
