A people-powered decorating movement.

About us

Our Mission is to be the definitive community-powered brand that builds decorating confidence by inspiring and supporting all decorators with their projects. Lick is a community-powered decorating movement. We are a force for change in the home decor space with a vision to transform the industry for our decorators and for the planet. Lick was founded in 2019 by Lucas London and Sam Bradley - both experienced startup entrepreneurs. The business has raised over $29m since inception. OMERS Ventures lead our Series A round in June 2021 with participation from existing investors Felix Capital and contributions from entrepreneurs and PE investors including Magnus Rausing, Alex Chesterman and Kathaka, the family office of Caroline Rupert of Richemont. We’re a business that believes in building confidence in our decorators. Seeing their bright ideas and making them happen. We do this by giving our do-er uppers access to inspiration, advice and how-to guidance from our experts and wider community. As well as making our range of (water-based, low VOC) paint, (FSC-certified) wallpaper, blinds and supplies with real people and real homes in mind. It's why we curate the colours in our product ranges, it's why we have an expert team of colour consultants on-hand to help with any decorating question, big or small, it's why we're building a supportive community of decorators to inspire each other with their projects, and it’s why we are rethinking how technology can transform this category. We're on a mission to transform the $1trillon global home decor category, and our sights are set on scale, this means expanding our product offering, launching new sustainability initiatives, and growing our already thriving community of home decorators across the globe. Decorator success starts at home...our home. That is why our ambition is to be a definitive people-powered company. Building an environment where individuals thrive and collectively achieve significant results.

We’re super excited to announce that Lick is officially B Corp™ certified! “We’re so proud to have achieved an epic score of 101.5 and be joining the movement dedicated to balancing purpose and profit. Ultimately, so that we can benefit both people and planet. What better way to celebrate than painting the B Corp logo in our office with leftover paint to remind us, and our amazing team, every day of how much we’ve achieved and the work that has gone into this milestone moment. We want to say a massive thank you to our community for coming on this journey with us! When people choose Lick as their partner in decorating, we can help them transform their home with respect to our collective home, planet earth. Thank you to Seismic for supporting us through our B Corp™ journey so far, we’re just getting started! We can’t wait to tell you more about our journey to this point, what it means to us, and how we achieved our score.” Lucas London (Co-Founder and CEO) & Sam Bradley (Co-Founder and CMO) #bcorp #bcorpcertified

Just 1 year on from joining the B&Q family we were thrilled to have won the Digital Partnership Award 2024 for our work building a digital brand and have the opportunity to support the B&Q Foundation on such a special evening to raise money for great causes alongside other brands at B&Q. Here's to the next year... ✨

We won a really important award.. Last week we joined B&Q at their Charity Gala Dinner, held at Twickenham in aid of the B&Q Foundation. We won the Digital Partnership Award for our work building a digital first brand. To be nominated and then to get an award chosen from hundreds of vendors is a proud moment, given our early stage. It really represents the amazing work done by our team and how much the business has evolved in the last 24 months to be a multi-channel brand. It has been a great experience working with the B&Q team and so much has been achieved online on diy.com and in stores. Thank you Paddy Earnshaw for the award and to Paul White, Laura Simonett, Helen Meigh and all the B&Q team for what we have achieved together in such a short space of time. We are very excited to see what we can build together in the industry. Whilst it is fantastic to be recognised with an award more importantly it was great to be part of an event that raised so much money for a great foundation.

Let’s chat Earth Day 🌎 and why this year we’re highlighting our sugarcane pulp paint tray! This year, Earth Day is highlighting Planet vs. Plastic, with the aim to push the phase-out of single-use plastics by 2040 and educate on more innovative and sustainable alternatives, like sugarcane pulp. As a B Corp-certified brand, we’ve got an ongoing commitment to reduce our impact on the planet, which includes minimising the use of plastics across everything we do - from our decorating tools to our product packaging and beyond. In 2022, through working with Nikki Buckley and Joel Buckley (who you might have spotted on Dragon’s Den), we introduced our (2x) award-winning, 0% plastic, sugarcane pulp paint trays into the LickTools, which we think are a game-changer for decorators and their projects. They have all the features of a traditional paint tray - and some - without the plastic! Holds paint ✔️ Re-usable ✔️ Durable ✔️ Biodegradable* ✔️ ✔️ Our hope is that more of these will result in fewer plastic paint trays (which often don’t get re-used, even with the best intentions) in our local skips. *fully biodegradable when used with a water-based paint like Lick.

We are extremely excited to announce we are now live in B&Q 🚀 How our business has changed.. When we started Lick we were focused on building an online brand. We saw an opportunity to drive adoption in a category that was at the time ~4% online. We were confident that we could offer a unique digital user experience that provided the decorator with more support to choose colour in order to help them transform their homes, whilst building a brand that resonated with the modern consumer. As we grew it was clear that our growth ambitions required us to work with retailers that had market share and a leading offline presence. We however would only move forward if a retailer was open to allowing us to create an experience in store that aligned to our brand pillars. It has been a fantastic experience working with the talented team at B&Q and Kingfisher plc who have enabled us to deliver on our objectives. Through our in-store digital experience we support the customer with inspirational and educational content and a digital colour consultation that offers bespoke colour palettes based on the decorator's requirements. A localised approach allows us to personalise the digital experience based on the store and location. Our amazing brand team has created a colour-first store presence that offers our complete range of high-quality peel & stick samples, eco tools and paints. I couldn't be more excited to share this news. It has been 12 months of very hard work that has required us to transform our business from one purely focused on DTC to a multi-channel brand. This has not been a small task. A massive thank you to the Lick team for this amazing achievement and the B&Q team for trusting us. This is our first Easter holidays live in B&Q. Partnering with a retailer is important in our category over this time where some customers want paint immediately, something we have not previously been able to offer as an online-only brand. We are very excited at how well the business is performing and look forward to continued growth. Go check us out, we would love to know what you think!

We’re sure you’ve heard the term “like watching paint dry”. It doesn’t inspire much excitement, does it? Well, we disagree... and we're challenging this myth on International Colour Day (today) by showing how NOT boring watching paint drying can be with an all-day social livestream of, you guessed it, paint drying. We'll be taking colour requests to so pop along and say hi 👋 on Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and TikTok. https://lnkd.in/ej497CCP #InternationalColourDay #LickHome

Weekend visits to B&Q just got even better… That’s right! You can now find our peel-and-stick samples, paint and LickTools in the decorating aisles of B&Q stores across the UK and Ireland, from Inverness to Torquay. Being at the nation’s favourite DIY store is a huge step for Lick as we expand our presence and introduce our products to a wider audience. But of course, it had to be done the Lick way… Our mission from day one has been to support decorators and give everyone confidence in the colours they choose. That’s why we’ve taken it to the next level. Customers will now have access to personalised colour recommendations in-store via a first-of-its-kind interactive digital screen that’s a game-changer when it comes to shopping for paint. That means you will now be able to scroll through real-life inspiration, learn more about our products and get expert colour advice that is tailored to your needs. Designed by our Colour Expert, Tash, our colour quiz makes it much easier for decorators to find their perfect colours. We’re so excited to share this experience with you all and hopefully give more people the confidence to decorate in-store. See you there? #LickatBandQ

“What does the ‘B’ in B Corp stand for?” A question we always get asked when talking about being B Corp Certified, so, in celebration of B Corp Month, it makes sense to start at the B-eginning. Some guesses we’ve had before… “Brilliant”, “Blooming fantastic” and “Better”. Nice, but not quite. It’s actually much more important than any of these. B is for ‘BENEFIT for all’ - which is what we at Lick commit to doing by becoming B Corp Certified. How do we do that? Well, being B Corp informs everything we do; from how we make our products, to the way we value our team’s wellbeing, to how we treat our customers and community. From upholding rigorous eco-credentials for all our products to giving back as we grow through trusted partners like charity:water, being members of Sedex, the world’s leading ethical trade membership platform, and signing the Better Business Act to campaign for a cleaner, greener and fairer future for all. But our B Corp certification isn’t a destination, it’s the beginning of the journey. That’s why we are continually evolving our approach to doing business sustainably and ethically to help everyone transform their homes with respect to people, communities and the planet. We hope this was of some BENEFIT when it comes to learning about B Corp. As always, we’re here for any questions or if you just want to share some more of your favourite B Corp Certified brands in the comments. Let’s move forward, together. #bcorpmonth #bcorpcertified
