We wrapped up the 2024 Disability:IN Global Conference with an inspiring Closing Plenary "Turning Insights into Action: Activating Disability Inclusion Post Conference." Our Chief People Officer, Cathy Donnelly, took the stage alongside leaders from Merck, Uber, Bender Consulting Services, Inc, Voya Financial, Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Northrop Grumman and inQUEST Consulting It was moving to hear the dedication to advancing disability and neurodiversity inclusion in the workplace, with a blend of personal stories and strategies for success. Some highlights from the session include: 💡"We believe in providing inclusive technology to all employees from day - no need to raise your hand or self-disclose. By doing so we are removing invisible barriers to success for everyone." Cathy Donnelly, Texthelp. 💡"We recognized that being inclusive was not just the right thing to do but this was a competitive advantage. We looked at our products and our digital experiences and training to educate that this exists inside your company even if people aren't talking about it." Heather Lavallee, Voya Financial. 💡"We want to move beyond a few unicorns in senior leadership that are disabled to show others there's a pathway. For junior talent, we need to understand the barriers so we are not only providing positions but careers for employees with disabilities." Brad Loftus, Boston Consulting Group (BCG). 💡"We have seen over the last five years an increase in our employees' participation in our self-ID campaign. This only happens when you have a relentless, multifaceted and holistic approach to building a disability inclusive work environment." Celeste Warren, Merck. 💡"Very talented people with disabilities that want to work are not working; 68% are not counted in the workforce today. People with disabilities have value and they will bring that to the workplace. Hire someone, that will make the difference." Joyce Bender, Bender Consulting Services, Inc. 💡"We define possible, I define possible everyday. As a disabled person that innovative mind and creative problem-solving translates to my work. To the next generation of leaders I want to remind you of the value and resilience of those with disabilities." Daniel Tanchez, Northrop Grumman. 💡"Through our self-ID initiative, we were able to see how many caregivers we had and the extra load that they were caring. With categories such as gender, race, disability and more, employees can identify all identities, helping us get ahead of the additional support needed." Dyan A. Ludeña Ferraris, Uber. Thank you to the amazing speakers for sharing your insights and your commitment towards creating truly inclusive workplaces for all. How can we prepare for the future of work? Proactive inclusion is key! 🔑 Today at the Disability:IN conference in Las Vegas, Christopher Grous, Texthelp’s Inclusive Technology Specialist shed light on the rising prevalence of neurodiversity in our workforces and the importance of proactive inclusion strategies to empower all kinds of minds. What an incredible discussion with leading voices at SAP, EY and Optum on ''Talent isn't Typical: Unlocking Potential and Building Inclusive Workplaces." Some impactful insights shared include: 🎙 "Inclusive technology helps me work to my full potential. With two thirds of neurodiverse individuals not disclosing at work, making tools like this standard practice ensures everyone has the support they need to be their best." Christopher Grous, Texthelp. 🎙"Higher-belonging times are higher-performing teams. The framework that we've built at EY includes five dimensions of neurodiversity inclusion: organizational processes, leader behaviors, enterprise language, assistive technology, and an adaptive environment." Hiren Shukla, EY. 🎙"Our working styles profile system means neurodiverse colleagues can express how they work best, especially as they work in different teams. This is something that's beneficial for everyone." Sarah Loucks, SAP. 🎙"It's important to move beyond asking individuals to disclose they have a condition to receive support. If we can embrace that we all work, learn and communicate differently and celebrate that, we can enhance inclusion and innovation." Amy Root, Optum. Let’s continue this crucial conversation! Visit us at stand 2 where we will be until July 18th and don’t miss our Closing Plenary session tomorrow at 10:30am PST.
