🇩🇪 MARKET TRENDS IN GERMANY ACROSS DATA CENTRES, ENERGY & SAP 1️⃣ Edge Computing is on the Rise and Going Green Alex Coles, Manager of our Critical Projects & Data Centres team at Thor said: "Edge computing's growth in Germany remains strong, driven by factors like the increasing adoption of 5G and the growing emphasis on data privacy. With 5G enabling faster data transfer and lower latency, Edge data centres can process sensitive data closer to its source, addressing privacy concerns and complying with regulations like GDPR. This trend is expected to see a rise in "green" Edge data centres, utilising energy-efficient technologies and renewable energy sources to minimise their environmental impact." 2️⃣ Germany's Renewables Push for Grid Expansion Matt Askew, Senior Consultant in our Energi team said: "Germany's record-breaking renewable energy integration in Q1 2024 continues to be a highlight. However, challenges remain. The rapid growth of renewables has exposed limitations in the existing power grid infrastructure. To fully harness the potential of renewables and ensure stable energy supply, Germany is pushing for a significant grid expansion plan. This includes building new high-voltage power lines and investing in smart grid technologies for better grid management." 3️⃣ SAP S/4HANA Adoption Heats Up, Cloud Options Gain Traction Matthew Ramos, Head of SAP Europe here at Thor said: "The adoption of SAP S/4HANA in Germany continues to accelerate. Businesses are increasingly recognising the benefits of S/4HANA, such as real-time analytics, improved efficiency, and a better foundation for future digitalisation efforts.
