It's official, #fashion's quintessential cool girl brand KHAITE is growing up. Honouring #CatherineHolstein’s first business pitch: that women’s needs were being neglected in favour of fashion showmanship, Catherine realised #Khaite itself, needed a revolution. “I wasn’t carrying our handbags. I wasn’t reaching for them. And that is why I started this brand — to make clothes I would gravitate towards in the morning.” The solution? A new handbag drop and CEO. While not a full relaunch, Khaite’s new selection of bags, together with its pre-fall collection form a new “family” of which future designs will be based. “We’re growing really fast. We’re having a lot of fun. I’m just recognising that right now is a really good time,” says Holstein. Now, with a big retail push underway and its sights set on $250 million in sales as the next milestone, Hilary Milnes details the potential and staying power of its new brand focus: https://lnkd.in/eCfE_Pbq

#JonathanAkeroyd bids farewell to #Burberry as the British luxury brand announces #JoshuaSchulman as CEO. Former CEO of US Fashion brands Michael Kors and Coach, Joshua Schulman, has been appointed by Burberry to deliver on his track record of driving transformative growth following Burberry’s continued sales slump. After the brand reported a ‘disappointing’ Q1 - with retail sales tumbling 22 per cent year-on-year to £458 million, Akeroyd will exit effective immediately. “We are taking decisive action to rebalance our offer to be more familiar to Burberry’s core customers while delivering relevant newness,” says Burberry’s Chair, Gerry Murphy. “We expect the actions we are taking, including cost savings, to start to deliver an improvement in our second half and to strengthen our competitive position and underpin long-term growth,” Murphy adds on the rationale for the change. Here, read Kirsty McGregor and Maliha Shoaib’s breakdown of everything to note about Burberry’s switch-up: https://lnkd.in/emiA_aUX

What should you be reading this summer? For the past couple of summers, #VogueBusiness has solicited book recommendations from some of the most prominent names and boldest thinkers working to make #fashion more #sustainable. This year, we’ve curated a list ourselves — a selection of books that, for the most part, have nothing to do with fashion, but have everything to do with how we need to be thinking about the planet and our relationship to it. Here, Rachel Cernansky assembles this summer’s sustainable reads: https://lnkd.in/edZMK2ci

A famous model, a boat, a chiselled eight-pack, and a tiny speedo — an evergreen recipe for success, and, in 2024, virality. Earlier this week, the actor #TheoJames and the model #VittoriaCeretti were photographed wearing diminutive white bathing suits and kissing in a tiny raft in Capri, reportedly filming a campaign for Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue fragrance. The internet went wild. One clip on X has amassed 2.7 million views, with reposts and cuts all following in the hundreds of thousands. It’s surprising how much play a 49-second video can get online, but such is the business of internet thirst — and, it must be said, the business of #fragrance. If fashion has gone in every possible direction over the last two decades, its fragrance ads remain unchanged and unchallenged. José Criales-Unzueta asks: why is it that fragrance — a $48.5 billion industry worldwide in 2023 — can follow the “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it” model, but fashion can’t? https://lnkd.in/epyBEDCs

Is this the future of beauty? The trillion-dollar #wellness industry has shifted from ice baths, green juices and meditation to wellness tracking and #biometric monitoring. As biomonitoring technology evolves and consumers take greater control of their health and beauty needs, #skincare brands — as well as wellness and supplement specialists — could use the data to hyper-personalise their ranges to better answer individual customer needs and strengthen existing #AI algorithms. However, experts warn that wellness tracking is still a nascent field, and there are some concerns about the implications of creating a culture of obsessive health monitoring — as well as how to keep customers’ data safe. With consumers now requiring their wellness routines to be supported by science and data, Nateisha Scott asks: what does that mean for the future of beauty? https://lnkd.in/eKUR32Ub

It’s the year of mother — both figuratively and literally. Whether it’s Gen Z’s most beloved It-girls #HaileyBieber and #SofiaRichie; the news of #MargotRobbie’s pregnancy breaking last week; or “that’s mother” or “mother is mothering” becoming the definitive social media compliment of 2024. A once-disparaged aspect of womanhood is being redefined through a new generation. In fashion, drab #maternitywear has been replaced by chicer, more daring looks that showcase the wearer’s personal style and bump. It’s undeniably a trend spearheaded by singer and Fenty Beauty CEO #Rihanna, who rewrote the pregnancy playbook with an assortment of experimental, high-fashion looks during her first pregnancy in 2022. Here, Amy Francombe explores how the bump became the hottest accessory, and how brands can better serve the new generation of mothers: https://lnkd.in/efQyZJ-C
