What is the most impactful career advice you've ever received, and how has it influenced your professional journey?

Giving time to protect the wild and its wonders - volunteering for a better world! 🌍 Our ESG team recently joined The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire for a day, using one of their two volunteering days to help at the nature reserve. Andrea Barrett, VP of Social Responsibility and Sustainability, shared her experience, "The team had the excellent job of pulling thistles and in the spirit of our RS value we #DeliveredBrilliantly! This may seem like a trivial job, but it’s actually super important. Intensely managing the wildlife reserve to keep invasive species like thistles at bay, is essential to maintain the delicate ecosystem of flora and fauna at the nature reserve. When the thistles are kept in check, the natural grasslands and more rare plant species like bee orchids thrive, the right insects are present and in turn the natural wading birds of the reserve multiply." Adding, "Maintaining the biodiversity of this special area is an incredibly delicate balance and vital to combat our environmental challenges. Our visit really helped us to understand that rewilding Britain’s areas of special and scientific interest requires so much more than letting nature run wild. Expert knowledge and wildlife management, manual labour and funding are key ingredients for success. We learnt so much from the fantastic team at The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire during our day and all came away inspired to do more for Britain’s green spaces. The incredible Faye Harry has been with RS for almost 24 years. We met her in the RS PRO lab to discuss her time with RS so far and her current role as RS PRO Supplier Assurance Manager. Good morning Faye, so what exactly does a typical day look like as a Supplier Assurance Manager? Faye: "Well I always start by checking emails and any Teams messages. On the days I am on a supplier visit, I spend it with their Quality team discussing their quality systems and having a factory tour. "If I'm in our office, I am writing up visit/audit reports, or planning my next visits. I also spend a lot of time supporting various teams with technical and quality questions." Having spent such a long part of your life with RS, what is your favourite thing about working here? Faye: "Definitely the people, I have had the privilege to meet and work with many wonderful people at RS over the years. I am lucky that my job enables me to speak to colleagues from all over the business, where I get to learn something new nearly every day." And do you have a stand-out memory of your time with RS? Faye: "I have so many brilliant memories from RS, but I think a standout memory would be from the Newcastle Maker Faire a few years back. We were we there to support DesignSpark with the RS PRO 3D printer. The night before the event we had all settled into the hotel, only for the fire alarm to go off at midnight. This was not the usual false alarm, there was actually a fire in the laundry room. We were evacuated from the hotel until around 3am, when the fire brigade gave the all clear to re-enter. "The following day, the whole team got up and went to the Maker Faire with very little sleep (and lots of coffee) and made sure that the visitors all had the best experience of RS. It just goes to show the professionalism of the RS staff and how we all pull together in difficult situations. "I also have to mention the STEMfest that we held on the RS Corby site. There were many activities for the young people to take part in, but I think the most popular was the ‘custard’ walk. I’m not sure who enjoyed it the most, the adults or the children. It took a long time for all the white foot prints from the corn-starch to finally wash away from the courtyard.
