❓A question to biotech hiring managers❓ When you're selecting a CRO/vendor for your study, do you go for the cheapest option and base your selection purely on the lowest price? The answer is probably, no. There are many factors that come in to play such as the vendors specialist area, reputation, evidence of past success in that service, global capabilities, synergy between organisations, the relationship and sense of confidence with the vendor, value etc. etc. Therefore it surprises me when the first question I am asked as a recruitment 'vendor' by hiring managers/HR is: "how much is your fee?" or "we only work with recruiters between X low-% to X low-%". I appreciate that 'more expensive' does not necessarily correlate to a better service, however choosing your recruitment partner purely based on the lowest fee is a dangerous move as it may cost you more in the long run. Curie.Bio a Massachusetts-based biotech investor came to market with $520m back in February 2023, seeing investments from GV, ARCH Venture Partners, and Leaps by Bayer. In it's latest investment pool it has grown by a further $380M aimed to nurture early-stage companies advancing towards clinical trials. Clinical Trials Updates: Annovis Bio, Inc. announces positive phase II results for their Alzheimer's Disease small molecule Alzheimer's has definitely been the primary focus of the neurology world for 2023/2024, after Eisai US launch last summer. Yesterday, Annovis Bio, Inc. shared encouraging results from its study of buntanetap for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Patients receiving buntanetap showed significant cognitive improvement compared to those on a placebo, with a notable reduction in plasma Tau protein levels, a marker of AD progression. This is bacuse Buntanetap can selectively inhibit transcriptions of harmful proteins associated with the disease, effectively reducing their production. The study involved over 700 patients, with those receiving buntanetap showing better cognitive function after 12 weeks. These findings are encouraging, leading Annovis Bio to plan a larger phase III trial in early-stage AD patients.
