With all the incidences of data breaches in the news these days, it’s no wonder customers are feeling more leery about sharing their personal information. Some data is the lifeblood of marketers, though: how else would you know whom to target?
This ExecBlueprint discusses marketing tactics in the context of today’s highly regulated data security environment. Thankfully, there is still hope for the marketer. This ExecBlueprint discusses marketing tactics in the context of today’s highly regulated data security environment. Thankfully, there is still hope for the marketer. While laws prohibit the use of certain information (e.g., medical, finance), customers will share unprotected details about themselves in order to learn about and attain the products and services they need — i.e., when it’s beneficial to them. So you can still collect names, ages, and professions at networking events or from lists. People will still disclose their purchasing patterns on surveys. Before using such valuable information, you should ensure that it: 1) was given voluntarily, 2) is presented in a way that’s helpful to the customer, and 3) complies with applicable laws.
