Alexis Holmes is Paris Bound After Day Three of U.S. Olympic Trials

EUGENE, Ore. – Alexis Holmes is heading to Paris, France. The Kentucky track and field class of 2022 alumnae concluded proceedings for the Wildcats this evening finishing third in the 400 meters to qualify for her first-ever Olympics.

Holmes earned bronze in the 400 meters final this evening after running a personal best time of 49.78. The Connecticut native ran a split of 23.90 through 200 meters putting her in fifth place halfway through the race. Holmes dropped a spot through 300 meters at 36.49 before kicking past three runners in the final 100 meters to capture third at the line and qualify for her first Olympic Team.

Elsewhere, senior Keaton Daniel came very close to reaching the Olympics as he finished fourth in the men’s pole vault final. The NCAA champion fought his way through the field, even setting a new personal best of 19’1”/5.82 meters but couldn’t get past that height to book a spot in Paris.

Day four of the USATF Olympic Team Trials starts at 8:00 p.m. ET tomorrow night with Micaela Hazlewood-Lewis in the women’s discus throw qualifier.
