The story was great but the narrator didn’t really do much for me, she always sounded like she was being strangled.

I hated for this book to end. Everything about it was excellent, it was never slow and never bogged down anywhere. If you like mysteries/thrillers then you will love this!

Story
A fresh start. That's what Becca hoped the move from New York to Redemption, Wisconsin would be for her troubled family. A way to get her crumbling marriage back on track, and to bond with her difficult 16-year-old stepdaughter. But instead of a new beginning, Becca is thrust into a mysterious past she barely remembers. A past that includes the complications of interacting with her old teenage crush, Daniel, as well as living in her aunt's old house. A house with a violent past. A house the locals swear is haunted.

Good book
Reviewed: 05-23-23
I’m torn about this book. The story was interesting the narration was excellent but I wasn’t crazy about the main character. I wanted to reach into the book and shake her and say “stand up for yourself” on so many occasions that it almost spoiled the book. I suppose that’s the mark of a great writer is to create that amount of empathy for a character but it was almost tiresome in places. It’s hard to describe this book, it’s a ghost story to some degree but it’s not really scary (to me). I did not realize when I downloaded the book that it was part of a series. I’m not usually big on these type of serial novels so we will just have to see how it goes.

The first book I read by Carol was “The Lake of Dead Languages” and since then I have become a big fan of her books. They always seem to lead you off in different directions trying to decide who done it before finally revealing the culprit. If you like a good mystery with healthy dose of creepiness check her out!!!

Story
It’s the house of their dreams. Former marine Harry and his wife, Sasha, have packed up their life and their golden retriever, Dash, and fled the corporate rat race to live off the land in rural Idaho. Their breathtaking new home sits on more than forty acres of meadow, aspen trees, and pine forest in the Teton Valley. Even if their friends and family think it’s a strange choice for an up-and-coming pair of urban professionals, Harry and Sasha couldn’t be happier about the future they’re building, all by their lonesome.

This was a great book. I enjoyed it from start to finish. The only problem I had with it was they took Gods name in vain WAY too much. I mean it was like they were doing it to make a point. Great story and the narrators were great, just cut back on the language!

What a fun story! I loved it! Forget the fact that it says for kids, don’t let that deter you from enjoying this book. I think they should write another one where they go save Christmas just like the boy suggested.

Story
Suffering from writer's block, novelist Rachel Ames escapes to a lake cabin to calm her mind and regain a sense of herself. The location is perfect. Isolated. Beautiful. Inspiring. It even comes with a good-looking landlord who shows an interest in her. But she can't shake the sense that something terrible has followed her to the lake, something just beyond her consciousness, something out on the edge where the sounds of a raging fire and sirens linger whenever she slows down to listen.

This was an enjoyable book. It was kinda slow getting started but picked up speed and got to be pretty good. It was not really a horror novel as such more of a psychological man on the edge of sanity book. All in all it was an enjoyable read. Give it a chance, you might be surprised.
