I liked this overall, but found it hard to follow when the narrator switched between the sisters as I found the voices used for each to be very similar. I'd listen to more from this author.

Great story - still missing Joe!
Reviewed: 05-16-24
Loved this book! Really enjoying this author, but this series of books is billed as the "Joe Talbert Series." Joe was a much loved character from the first book but he makes no appearance at all in the second book and is barely mentioned in this book. I find myself actively listening for him to appear the first half of the book, spend a little time disappointed when I realize he's not going to make an appearance and then allow myself to enjoy the last portion. Max Rupert is growing on me, but it's not HIS series!

Where's Joe?
Reviewed: 05-10-24
I LOVED this first book in this "series" so I was excited to continue to follow Joe's journey in what was billed as the second book in the Joe Talbert series. Joe does not appear in this book. Instead, we follow Max the detective which is fine, just wasn't what I expected. Once I let go of that expectation, the story and performance were fine, I was just a little let down.

Story
Investigative journalist Laura Chambers is back in her tiny hometown of Hillsborough, North Carolina, the one place she swore never to return. Fired from The Boston Globe, her career in shambles, she reluctantly takes a job with the local paper. The work is simple, unimportant, and worst of all, boring - at least until a missing girl turns up dead, the body impeccably clean, dressed to be the picture of innocence. Years earlier, 10-year-old Patty Finch left home and never made it back. But for the people of Hillsborough, Patty was just the beginning.
