Romance novel pretending to be fantasy

To be honest I can’t write a review on the whole book. I couldn’t get past the first few chapters, because I thought I purchased a book in the fantasy genre and was disappointed to find I purchased a romance novel that slipped into the fantasy section by giving the sex deprived characters pointy ears and wings.

Really like the story and the characters, but the author has me confused. I feel like this book, which I think is a compilation of two books, should I actually have one more book to complete the story. I was unfamiliar with author, so I tried to find another book to end the story and I realized there wasn’t one, but there was another series, or so I thought. I bought the White Tower “ book 1” of the Aldoran Chronicles. Guess what? 2 to 3 years later and there is no book 2 and no ending to that story either. Very disappointed. I still gave this story 4 stars, because I did enjoy it, as far as it went.

I blame myself on this one. I don't like video game themed books and that's what this is. Even putting that aside though, the story is weak and the character development is weak. I couldn't make it through the whole 9 hours and 49 minutes.

Only made it to chapter 14. No real storyline that I could see. Unlikable protagonist and equally unlikable supporting cast.

Huge fan of Monster Hunters and Larry Correia. I was really excited to see a new book in the series come out. What a disappointment! No plot. This is the first of his books that I've read where there has been no plot. I feel taken advantage of. Synopsis: introduction. We learn about the hero. Basically the hero enjoys telling us he is a genius and that he like to screw coeds. After introduction it's just a bunch of somewhat dull short stories lined up next to each other and glued together by protagonist telling us who he screwed today. There are no interesting characters. Protagonist is too busy talking about himself to develope other characters. I feel this book was thrown together to make money off of the good reputation of other much better books in the series.

I I am probably being a little hard on the book, just because I feel tricked. The book was sold as fantasy. I have never read a romance novel, but I suspect if I did, it would be a lot like this book, without the fairies. Extremely dull. 1/4 of The book is spent on descriptions of her feelings towards her fairy boyfriend. Come on, I'm a guy, the last thing I want to hear about is feelings. Sorry, but I can't recommend it, except possibly to teenage girls. No offense intended teenage girls. I honestly don't know what you ladies like.

I guess when one of the main characters is a succubus, you should expect more than the average amount of sex in the story. I suppose, if you get super human sex powers from the succubus, you might have more than the average amount of sex, with more than the average number of people. Unfortunately, when you spend 10 hours every day having sex, it doesn't seem to leave much time for a story to develop...and when every sexual encounter is described in detail, the cheap thrills start to fade. I made it about a third of the way through the book, before my interest went completely flaccid and I couldn't go on. It was a little embarrassing, but I'm just not 18 years old anymore.

Since 4.5 stars wasn't an option, I rounded up. I really am looking forward to the second book. I think this one was well done. I enjoy books with well developed characters and A Warrior's Path had them. Hopefully, if Mr. Ashura has a day job, he can now quit and focus on adding to the series. Good job!

I am excited about this series, and this book was the best so far! Talk about value. 30+ hours of high quality audio entertainment! I was on a dry spree for awhile. There are only so many writers, who reach that level of Master writer in Sci-fi/fantasy. My list includes Tolkien, Terry Brooks, Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson, Orson Scott Card, Larry Correia, and Michael Sullivan (although latest book was a bust). I have added Steven Erikson to my personal list of must read authors.

Great stories. Great, well developed characters, and Michael Page dose a great job narrating. I must admit, I listened to the first book in the series and I thought it was ok, but wasn't motivated to listen any further. Then after numerous so-so books, I was looking for something good. Thought I was going to have to change genres, but I came back on his series and saw that the books after Book 1 were rated really high and had good recommendations. From that point on, each book just seemed better than the one before.

Would probably be even better in book form, because I have to admit there are a lot of characters, and you may not hear from one for a while. When he shows back up, it takes me a while to fit him/her back into the story, but that is my problem, not the authors.

I will listen to the entire series and then will move on to any other series he has.

I love Terry Brook's books. I think he is one of the best authors currently around. Unfortunately, I didn't think this book was up to his usual high standard. What's there is well written, but there isn't much there. I know its over 10 hours, but it feels like 10 hours of background information leading up to the actual story. We now know a little about the main characters. I hope the next book has a story for them to be in.
