Your husband’s dead. He’s never coming back. So why is he on a dating site asking you to go out with him?

Then

Linda has it all: a gorgeous home, a devoted husband, two loving daughters. But she throws it all away to chase an impossible dream.

Now

Linda is alone and penniless, living in a shabby rented flat. With nothing to lose, she signs up to a dating app for the over 50s. But the one man who responds to her profile, a man calling himself Tony Fortin, is not who he says he is.

Linda recognises him immediately. He’s Marcus, her second husband.

But that’s impossible. Marcus died eight months ago. He drowned off the coast of Corfu.

As Linda digs deeper, she discovers that the man she married second time around had been keeping secrets from her. Very dark secrets.

Now the one person who can help her is the person who has every reason not to get involved.

Her first husband.

Tedious Read

I did plod through the whole novel and glad Linda finally found herself but it took long enough! Her character was quite irritating throughout the book with her indecision and wishy-washy personality. Frankly, I tried to empathize with her but it was hard. You can’t just do what you want and still play a victim if things don’t work out like you’d like. She always did what she wanted but got irritated at any perceived slight from someone else. And gracious she was only in her 50’s and her emphasis on being an “old” woman was somewhat unrealistic.

Surprised at the twist and turns

I really enjoyed this book. Did not expect the twist and turns that it took.

Ehhhh

Over all a good listen but the ending was carried on way to long. I enjoyed the first 3/4 of the story the rest we could really do without.

Mixed.

At times, enthralling. At times, it seemed never-ending. The main character flip-flopped as she developed. The ending was just meh.

Didn’t like any of the characters

I finished the book but was rolling my eyes throughout. Not one redeeming character except perhaps Rose. People making dumb decisions.

Not a favorite.

Not a favorite. Intriguing enough that I wanted to finish, hence 3☆s. [Nothing redeeming, really.]

Vile Main Character

The story is very poorly written. I feel like the whole thing is straight out of the author’s diary or something. It is all over the place. One minute the main character is talking about the present and the next she’s talking about her past. There is no strategic break between the timeline. It’s like how you’re talking and one thing leads to another, you’re on a completely different subject.

That said, I’ve never listened to or read a story with such a despicable main character before. The character of Linda (Lindy) is full of self-pity, jealousy, and badmouthing everyone in her life. In fact, 90% of the story was spent on having this character lamenting on her self-pity, 5% on constant complaining how her best friend and family do her wrong while the other 5% plotting vengeance on them. She is also one of the most selfish female character and a hypocrite. She keeps b!tching about how her “best friend” is a terrible person, yet, all the while she is plotting on getting back at her. I can’t imagine anyone with an ounce of moral would root for this character. She is pathetic, cunning, and just right out despicable. You want to feel good when the story comes to a close or if the story is good, you don’t want it to end. But the ending makes me despise the main character even more (I didn’t know it was possible) and feel relieved it is over,

Kept my interest…

This book kept my interest, I liked the twists. There were portions I felt were drawn out and took a little too long to get to the point. Aside from that I really enjoyed the book and especially the end.
