As a science journalist, Catherine Roberts’ goal is to empower consumers to make informed decisions about health products, practices, and treatments. Catherine aims to investigate what works, what doesn’t, and what may be causing actual harm when it comes to people’s health. For CR, she has covered infectious bugs (both pathogens and arthropods), the risks and benefits of screening tests, older adults’ health, pesticides in food, and more. She holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Tulsa and a masters degree from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY.
IN THEIR OWN WORDS:
“We often hear a lot about the promised health or wellness benefits of a given product or procedure. But it can be a lot harder to understand potential harms (whether to an individual or even to the environment)—let alone how to weigh these harms against the promises. As a journalist, my goal is to help guide consumers through these complex but important decisions with digestible and actionable advice. As a civilian, my passions include science fiction, running, Queens, and my cat, Edgar.”
