As a Research Program Leader at Consumer Reports, Martin Lachter develops and analyzes dozens of sections for CR’s quarterly omnibus member surveys. Among the products and topics he covers are automobiles, major kitchen appliances, vacuum cleaners, mattresses, and mattress retailers. His work has resulted in predicted reliability and owner satisfaction ratings that are now used for hundreds of CR-rated items. He has also produced nationally representative surveys on a variety of topics, including home renovations, financial planning, and insect repellents.
Prior to joining CR in 2014, Martin was Associate Director of Institutional Research at Yeshiva University, where he planned and executed research projects, conducted online surveys of the Yeshiva community, and analyzed data on student demographics, academic achievement, and program participation.
Martin has a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Arizona and an M.A. in Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences from Columbia University.
