CryptoPunks is one of the oldest and most iconic non-fungible token (NFT) collections; each NFT in the collection represents ownership of a unique item that is different from the others and cannot be replaced with other tokens, unlike cryptocurrencies.
Created by John Watkinson, Matt Hall, and Andy Milenius in 2017 under Larva Labs, CryptoPunks was inspired by the London punk scene, cyberpunk movement, and electronic dance music artist Daft Punk. Launched on the Ethereum blockchain, each image can represent an alien, robot, or ape in a punk style.
The CryptoPunks project has experienced significant growth in the space and even permeated into more mainstream culture, with companies like Visa and celebrities like Jay-Z owning them. They are arguably one of the most sought-after collections in the NFT space, with some selling for millions of dollars.
