Loneliness and Social Support Networks: Findings from the KFF Survey of Racism, Discrimination and Health
The effects of loneliness and social isolation on health have received new attention amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the age of social media.
A KFF analysis examines loneliness and social support networks by age, race, ethnicity, and other factors. It looks at the prevalence of loneliness for different groups, the role of social support networks, and associations between these factors and people’s physical and mental health. It is based on data from KFF’s 2023 Survey on Racism, Discrimination and Health, a nationally representative survey based on responses from over 6,000 adults.
