Es importante entender que somos seres humanos también y nuestra inteligencia emocional es la que nos guiará en momentos en los que se presenten crisis o interrupciones que desconcentren tanto al coachee como a nosotros como coach en el desarrollo de sesiones. Pienso que una de las maneras en las que en algunas veces he sorteado esas situaciones han sido con un poco de humor. Te puedo comentar que en una oportunidad que estaba dando una sesión los fluorescentes de las lámparas se desprendieron y se partieron, imposible que no nos espantáramos, pero en medio de todo solo miré a mi coachee y le dije : Crees que podamos abrir las cortinas ? nos reímos un rato largo y retomamos la sesión.

I take a deep breath, and weigh the importance of the interruption. Since my technology is already managed, it’s only in person disruptions that can occur. Virtually all of my coaching is via Zoom in my home office, so I can turn off the audio when lawnmowers, dog barks or sirens are the issue. Human or pet crises happen. I simply excuse myself, resolve the issue, and resume ASAP. Fire, floods, tornados, and armed insurrection haven’t happened yet — will have to see my capacity for that.

One thing that I found simple is to be your authentic self as a coach. I was coaching a senior executive in a virtual meeting on a crucial interview preparation agenda early in the morning,when I was informed by my family of a bereavement. I explained the scenario, and asked how he would like to address this interruption. With complete empathy, he advised me to be with my family and offered his prayers. I offered him a time late in the evening, and he suggested to take my time. Later in the day, I shared a voice note with two questions, he responded on the same medium. We then exchanged a few more. One of his realisations was to shift the 'interview' into an 'engaging conversation'. He cracked the role.

Es importante que respetemos el tiempo de nuestros clientes, el espacio donde vamos a dar la sesión de coaching debe ser adecuado. El estar en capacidad de escuchar procurando que no existan agentes distractores es lo mejor. Los líderes de algo que carecen es tiempo normalmente sus agendas son muy estrechas por lo cual cuando decides dar coaching a lideres debes estar consciente que si han decidido acceder a sesiones de este tipo es porque necesitan encontrar en si mismos las respuestas y una guía por lo que es imprescindible que se sientan valorados y escuchados para encontrar la forma de generar confianza y rapport en la sesión
