If you integrate dirty data, you'll likely face operational issues that can compromise your system's reliability and your organization's decision-making capabilities. Investing time in cleaning data before integration saves you from the long-term consequences of inaccurate data.

Ensure you have a properly defined data strategy which ideally will define the following when addressing cleaning data. 1. Data cleansing strategy - how are we approaching data cleansing? Who will be involved and who does what? What is our approach for erroneous data or data that cannot be reconciled? 2. Data cleansing steps - how many rounds of data cleansing will we have? How will we validate the data cleansing results? How much of data will be validated? This is not comprehensive, a lot can be written about a dedicated data cleansing approach but I trust this gives a good flavor to the exercise.
