You’re interviewing for your dream job. How can you prove you’re the perfect fit?

So I'll share what I did to join my current company. To keep it transparent, after working with a well known company, I was looking for jobs in the similar capacities only. But when I saw the opening at Shott, I found it exciting coz it was something different to what I had been doing so far yet it seemed relatable. However, what excited me was its presence on social media which is my another interest area. I am highly interested in employer branding so I found it relatable. This was R&D through which I came to know about the company and how my goals will be accomplished by working towards accomplishment of the company's goals. "When you are able to showcase how you fulfil the company's requirement, the company is bound to select you."

To demonstrate that I'm the ideal candidate for my dream job, I'll thoroughly research the company, its culture, and the role's requirements. During the interview, I'll articulate how my skills, experiences, and values align with the organization's goals. I'll provide concrete examples of past achievements that showcase my abilities and illustrate how they directly contribute to the role I'm applying for. Additionally, I'll convey enthusiasm, confidence, and a genuine passion for the opportunity. By effectively communicating my qualifications and enthusiasm for the position, I aim to convince the hiring team that I'm the perfect fit for the job.

To demonstrate the perfect fit for your dream job, showcase a deep understanding of the company's goals and industry trends. Highlight relevant skills, experiences, and achievements that align with the job requirements. Use concrete examples to illustrate your capabilities and contributions. Communicate your passion for the role and commitment to driving results. Emphasize your ability to adapt, collaborate, and innovate, positioning yourself as a valuable asset to the team.

It's 90% preparation and 10% the interview itself. Do you homework - on the company, its values and mission, on the people involved in the hiring process, review their LinkedIn profiles, read company reviews on Glassdoor and Indeed, if available, study the job description thoroughly, and think of examples from your past work experience that would support key requirements on the job description. Prepare meaningful questions for the interviewers.

In addition to researching the company's trajectory or values, it may be advantageous to take the time to expand your network to include colleagues who are within the area or team to which you intend to apply. This enables you to approach the interview with a prior contact and gain more intimate insights into the company's day-to-day operations and its actual requirements.

Be professional. Do not say bad things about your colleagues. Not knowing something is totally fine. Say "I don't know the answer, but I can assume it works in this way.." Be friendly. Smile and laugh. Every interviewer tries to understand if you both can be good colleagues/friends. Do not give too much importance to this interview. Avoid being excited or intentionally being arrogant. It is just a regular interview. Have one more offer in your pocket. Check the Glassdoor and find potential leaked questions. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. Sometimes companies reject even the best of us :)

Interview is all about how you present yourself. Self confidence. Crisp and Brisk answers. Demonstrate your strength. Adaptability. Willing to learn. What can you contribute to the company.

Drawing on your real-world experience helps the panel see you in the role. Consider your "stand out" career moments and any important or tricky tasks you have undertaken. Think about this and how you might answer questions that draw on these experiences - practice saying this out loud. Going into the interview with a head full of real things you have done will give you a library of examples to draw on and help prevent you from "going blank" during questioning.

uring the interview, it's your chance to highlight your skills and abilities that directly relate to the job's demands. Utilize specific examples from your past experiences or projects to demonstrate how you tackled challenges, attained goals, or gained new insights. Employ the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to organize your anecdotes and emphasize your effectiveness. Dodge ambiguous or general statements that lack specificity. Instead, concentrate on showcasing your individual strengths and contributions, distinguishing yourself from other applicants.

Be informed about the company culture - not just from their website but look at what their employees post on LinkedIn as this will give you a sense of culture and purpose. Don't be afraid to be yourself though - there's no point in trying to mimic what you think the hiring manager wants. Remember what makes you unique as well as what makes you a good fit for the company by highlighting not just what you have done but who you are as a human being. Be honest with yourself about what sort of company you truly want to work for and don't fake interest when it's not really there.

When interviewing for your dream job, it's very crucial to demonstrate a deep understanding of the role and its requirements. Asking thoughtful questions shows interest and engagement, while a follow-up email expressing gratitude reinforces your enthusiasm and interest in the position.

The hiring manager will assess if you fit well with the company's culture. This involves sharing their values, vision, and work approach. Demonstrate your alignment with the culture by using upbeat and respectful language, displaying enthusiasm and dedication, and expressing your eagerness to develop and evolve. Highlight aspects of the culture that resonate with you, such as teamwork, innovation, or social responsibility. Refrain from criticizing or complaining about past or current employers, as this could create a negative impression of your attitude and suitability.

Ensure that your work style aligns with the values of the company. At times, individuals are drawn to favorable conditions or salaries without ensuring a good fit with the company's dynamics. In my view, you may have a role of great responsibility or a good salary, but if you're not comfortable with the type of business decisions or the prevailing culture on a daily basis, your dream job can turn into a nightmare.

In my recruiting experience, asking smart, thoughtful questions during an interview is a great way to set yourself apart from other candidates. I recommend preparing some questions that show that you've spent time getting to know the company or industry on a deeper level (i.e. perhaps referencing a case study from the website or industry trends you learned from you research). Not taking the opportunity to ask questions can really make or break the interview process. It's always a red flag to me if I ask a candidate if they have any questions at the end of an interview and they tell me "no."

Towards the conclusion of the interview, you'll typically get an opportunity to pose some questions to the interviewer. This presents a wonderful chance to demonstrate your enthusiasm, understanding, and character. Pose insightful questions that delve deeper than surface-level details about the job or the company. For instance, inquire about the challenges, prospects, or anticipations associated with the role, the feedback or assistance you'll be provided, or the vision and objectives for the future. Steer clear of questions that are overly personal, obvious, or pessimistic in nature.

I find it to be a highly commendable practice. Just as a candidate always values receiving feedback, as a recruiter, I also appreciate when a candidate communicates their perspective on the outcome of the interview. As a piece of advice, in addition to sending a brief message the day after the interview, it's always beneficial to pose some basic questions to enhance the flow of communication.

If you are unsuccessful always ask for feedback, ideally on what you could improve on for next time. You won't always get much back but there is no harm in asking. Interviews can be a "numbers game" and it's helpful to always take something away from each one, even if it's not a new job.

STOP talking about FIT - START talking about ADD. If you tell me you're the perfect person you'll immediate make me think otherwise. For starters how do you know what the perfect fit is? You've got 2 ears and 1 mouth...use them accordingly. 1) Be CURIOUS - You need to find out about the current challenges. 2) Be COURAGEOUS - Suggest skills you have that would complement them. 3) Be AUTHENTIC - Don't embellish - be real...that's what they want to see...if it's what they need it'll work out.

It's not just about proving you're qualified on paper; it's also about demonstrating your passion, enthusiasm, and what value you bring to the table throughout the application and interview process.

All of the above are true. Do your homework, have questions, show how your experience can solve whatever problems thay are having. Remember: keep you answers brief, and only answer the question that have been asked. Be concise, don't wander, especially if it's only a 30 min chat. Answer fully so that both your actions, and the context in which they occurred, are clear. The difference between a 30 and 60 minute interview are HUGE, so plan accordingly. 30 mins is tight, focused and you want to leave the interviewer with one/two big ideas. 60 mins allows for in-depth questions/responses, and is MUCH more of a discussion where your versatility, adaptability and ability to improvise around obstacles can be highlighted!

Just turn up, be yourself & if you don’t get the job it’s their loss., & look at it like this, you were meant for something better.
