In short , need to explain the background for that changes and what all benefits we will get due to the same . Need to listen team perspective also so that we will cover all the angles for smooth processing of that changes .

I've found that Upper Management can be hesitant to implement new things if current policies are working. I simply show them the pros and cons while going in depth on how advantageous change can be. Some change is not necessary but Fleet evolves everyday so you need to be open to change or you can fall behind.

We have to accept the new technology as a new method to accomplish our missions in faster, better and more professional way. This means that we have to embrace the team very positively.

Effective communication is the first step of mission completion. Talk to them, not at them. Be as clear and concise as possible. Allow an open dialogue where questions can be asked, because questions will definitely be asked.

I am in the middle of this process right now. One of the items I know from my past experience is a huge challenge....is to communicate clearly to the users early about what you will be delivering. I have seen that when you don't clearly define it for them.....they define it for themselves and the disconnect begins. You likely, are not delivering nearly what people can dream or imagine. It sets up an unavoidable "Over promise under Deliver".... even though, you never promised. You can capture what they want that you have not included in the core product, through that communication, and then develop and articulate the plan to bring that to them as well. But they know what is coming....and you don't get the instant disconnect.

Training is key to every aspect of a new invention. Self discovery of a new invention is also possible but with a 20-30 percent successful outcome. Train gives thorough insights on the technical know how of a new invention giving it an outcome of 50-80 percent success rate on the first application if well applied. Training helps faster in embracing and adapting to a new technology.

I think training is paramount in introducing any new technology. I had an experience in using a new vehicle utilization technology that only required the drivers to scan their miles at the end of the day. I received plenty of resistance because it was viewed as an additional task for the drivers. We provided additional training to show the drivers that they were actually doing less to report vehicle utilization than they were doing prior to the new implementation. I believe the hands-on training, allowed the end users to see the results of their new technology. Listening to their concerns and providing an answer and a reason for the new technology was the key to getting their acceptance.

When it comes to introducing new technology, demonstrate the new technology, and let them know how the new tech will maximize productivity in their specific areas. Also, show them how. Letting them see how the new tech will make their tasks easier is always a plus.

We conducted a pilot on new telematics technology, to see if it would meet our needs. At the end of the pilot, we gathered the opinions of the front-line staff. Based on their feedback, we still use the technology to this day. The front-line staff also felt appreciated for being part of the process. A total win-win.
