We're proud of NEO, not just for its specifications but because it's not an industrial machine. It's lightweight, low-energy, soft, compliant, and safe among people. 1X designs our robots differently so they can work with us.

About us
1X is an AI robotics company producing robots capable of human-like movements and behaviors. 1X’s mission is to create an abundant supply of labor via safe, intelligent humanoids that work alongside humans. 1X’s robots are poised to conquer tangible tasks in the physical world. Targeting the entire physical labor market, we have the potential to reach a multi-trillion-dollar market size. The US-Norwegian company was founded in 2014 and has its dual headquarters in San Francisco Bay and Norway.

"No, no - you don't have to explain it. I get it." Was Sam's comment when OpenAI decided to invest in 1X. 1X founder and CEO Bernt Øivind Børnich joined Herbert Ong on the Brighter With Herbert podcast to answer how 1X secured funding with OpenAI, announced in early 2023. Bernt also reflects on the lessons from the first commercial rollouts offering EVE to the enterprise market and how these lessons are shaping the bring-up of our next humanoid NEO and its advanced intelligence. "Adapting industrial robots with AI isn't enough for scalable, cost-efficient humanoids for domestic use. We need a different approach: robots that are soft, low energy, and scalable in manufacturing. 1X produces everything in-house, from components to the AI stack. By 2025, we aim to see significant volumes of NEO, using learnings from our current platform EVE to master scaling, AI integration, and customer deployment." 1X's ultimate goal is for our biped robot NEO to help out in people's homes. While developing NEO, we're already training for autonomous domestic tasks using EVE as a data collector and research platform. “We’ve previously shown that our robots were able to pick up and manipulate simple objects, but to have useful home robots, you have to chain tasks together smoothly.” said Eric Jang, vice president of AI at 1X. “We can give the robot a goal — ‘Please go to this part of the room’ — and the same neural network can navigate to all parts of the room,” he said. “Tidying up a room involves four primitives: going anywhere in the room, adjusting for position, picking something up, and putting it down.”

By 2030, 2.3 million senior citizens in America will need nursing home care. As the global population continues to live longer, we have a social responsibility to care for our elders. 1X participates in varied research exploring how nurses and robots can work together to provide the best living conditions. You can now tell EVE to do multiple autonomous tasks back-to-back. Watch a team of EVEs work together to clean up our office. This video does not contain teleoperation, computer graphics, cuts, speedups, or scripted trajectory playback. It's all controlled via neural networks. Discover more: https://lnkd.in/d_pr7vth

EVE can autonomously tidy up clutter. Using 1X motors to pull tendons, EVE handles objects with gentle yet strong movements. Trained by an operator who logs into EVE's body to teach tasks, EVE learns and replicates behaviors. Exposure to various objects, environments, and weights enhances its ability to generalize and adapt. This technology ensures our robots can safely work alongside people.

"EVE, fold my t-shirt" All actions are autonomous. We use natural language to prompt EVE to complete a pre-trained task. When combining LLM's, an endless world of automation opens. In the 1X Studio, operators and androids are training for real-world tasks in domestic environments. Find us on Instagram and YouTube for frequent updates.
